Hire the right guy. No matter how long it takes to find him, no matter who stays and who leaves, no matter the ramifications for next year's recruiting class. This next hire has to be right.
Comparing last year's defense to this year's is apples and oranges.
Last year, with Bray out, Vols' offense was pathetic, really pathetic. Get a couple of scores up on them and the game was over. Like Fulmer did so many times against inferior SEC teams, folks like LSU and Alabama got ahead...
Gary Patterson is a great coach and an even better person. He is, however, a Chavis type of guy. H's not flashy, doesn't have the hair or fan appeal. I'll be extremely surprised if he leaves Ft. Worth. If Tennessee really wanted him, they should have gone after him hard when they hired...
Next year the Vols will have a senior dominated team no matter who leaves early this year. The single biggest problem from bringing in a new coach is the change of philosophy, offensive and defensive schemes and terminology, the entire cultural change. Knowing they have only 12 games left in...
AJ's pass coverage is poor as is Lather's. Teams are doubling McCullers. The LB's need to blitz behind him.
And why in the world doesn't CP return punts?
Here's the kicking game just last nite:
- A 14 yard punt
- 6 men on line of scrimmage negates 49 yard punt
- A time out for FG defense
- A kick off out of bounds
- A running into the kicker penalty
- A fumbled punt
- A botched pooch kick
Aside from CP the kicking game is a total...
Isn't the kicking game Derek's supposed area of expertise, his focus? Just look at this one game:
- A 14 yard punt
- 6 men on line of scrimmage negates 49 yard punt
- A time out for FG defense
- A kick off out of bounds
- A fumbled punt return
- A totally botched pooch kick
Aside...
Anybody else ready to see Justin Hunter go? As well as Bray. Hunter plays for himself. I'd rather see Jacob Carter. I guarantee he won't be short arming balls like Hunter.
The big plays have been embarrassing but on the hole, this defense is so much more aggressive than Wilcox's. That bend but don't break stuff, giving up 16 and 18 play drives was pitiful. With UT's offense, Sal's approach is a significantly better fit.
Read a CFN article written by 3 or 4 prognosticators. The only real negative they harped on was lack of talent on defense and inability to stop the run.
That's about it.
Vols now have talent and depth on the defensive line and talent at LB. Barring injuries- aren't they due for a break...
There is more depth than there has been in 5 years. The front 7 is better and deeper than it has been in at least 5 years.
Your negativity is 5 years old.
