1. A very nice, solid way to start the season. UT needed this win bad and they got it. It was a really nice to see Tennessee on the football field and get a win.

2. I was happy with the defense. There needs some improvements obviously: The middle was wide open all day, some missed tackles. But a lot of pressure on Glennon and four turnovers. I can't remember when UT had a four turnover game against a BCS opponent. They were ball-hawking.

3. AND WE BLITZED A LOT!!! It was really nice to see and Glennon never found a rhythm. It hurt us down the middle of the field. The linebackers/safeties were out of sync. But I never have seen a UT team blitz so much. I love the corner blitzes.

4. Defensive Player of the Game: Eric Gordon. He's just a playmaker. He made some nice tackles, had a nice pass break up and made a nice pick. He just flies to the football. Great game for him.

5. To the offense. I know we had a nice yardage running, but almost 109 of that came from two plays, and 72 from Patterson. The line has to get a more consistent push. I was impressed with Marlin Lane though. Really nice performance from him.

6. Too many false starts. I know it's the first game, but can't have that. Other than that, not a lot of yellow on the field. 6 penalties, 35 yards won't kill ya most of the time.

7. Impressed with Patterson. He struggled in the second half (NC State got more aggressive with him) but he's going to have a bigger impact than I originally thought. I am blown away by his athletic ability. He can fly. Can't wait to watch him when he gets the playbook down.

8. Disappointed in the lack of touches for Rivera. It's really my only complaint for Chaney tonight. He's got to be a bigger factor in the pass game.

9. Offensive Player of the Game: I thought Bray played his most complete game as a Vol QB. He forced one throw tonight. There were three drops by my count. He took his checkdowns. He avoided sacks. He threw the ball out of bounds. Overthrew a couple guys, but really no big deal in the first game. Just was really happy with his performance.

10. Shout out to Matt Darr for a really nice game. He really did a good job tonight punting the ball and got great hangtime.

11. A really good win tonight. NC State is no slouch. That's an 8-9 win team IMO. Bray has fantastic, the run game gave us enough, and the D was really aggressive. On to Georgia State for a nice tune up to SEC play.

Go Vols!!! :hi:

Eric Gordon has found his position! Shout out to ZR as well.

He should play what I like to call the "Aggressive slot" that Mathieu made so popular.

ZR made a really nice catch. That was not as easy as it looked.

This was definitely a solid win. Clearly, we have areas to improve on. Had no idea Patterson could cut as quick as he did. He was impressive. This is the year we have to beat Florida. As important as tonights game was for the team and the staff, the UF game is that much bigger.

Bray has my vote for player of the game. His decision making was superb. He threw to the correct receiver nearly every play.

Bray had a lot of time to throw as well. OLine pass protection was excellent, run blocking still not there. But their size was evident as the NCST front seven slowed greatly even by the half.

Finally, a third quarter where the vols adjust for the positive. The D changed up their scheme and the blitzes confused the NCST oline and Glennon suffered for it.

Should have mentioned this.

O-Line did this well.

I hated the defense blew some coverages, but overall I was impressed. Bray was on fire all night. Cordarrell (sorry if misspelled) is legit, he will be a nightmare for defenses when he gets the whole play book down. Hunter played solid but had some drops. Neal is stil Neal too much dancing not enough north n south

Also, you have to remember that was only part of the playbook...

More will be installed.

Great first game.

O-line needs to push better.

D- needs better back end communication.

D. Sapp was an unsung player of the game. Stepped up big with Lathers out.

Beat Florida, then people will notice. That's THE GAME. I like this win, no doubt was nice...but we gotta beat Florida. Dear God, I'm tired of losing to them.

This. All we will hear for the next two weeks is "they are in the ACC."

Impressed with Sapp. Was very surprised with him.

I don't know if it was just me, but Moore was getting torched in the first half. They were picking on him.

After seeing those two play in Nashville last night, we should throttle them both.

Georgia will be the only problem.

Continued quality contribution from ZR will be a nice addition to our offense this season....we might just have a bonafied possession receiver.

South Carolina will get better. Shaw got hurt, remember? Really hurt their gameplan. They still our the team to beat in the East IMO.

We'll see about UF. That D is nasty.

I'd rather beat Georgia if i can only beat one between them and Florida, but I hate losing to Florida and we're long overdue.

Disagree. Still think the SEC east goes through Athens

A few notes.

1. With lathers injured Eric Gordon gave this team a lift. My vote for player of the game. Don't care about stats. Also 4 picks of the best pro QB is not too bad.

2. Patterson. A star is born tonight. Trust me, will be good for advertising, ESPN time, and will get Heisman mention.

3. Running game. Needs some work, Lane looked best tonight. Needs to run between tackles quit bouncing outside. Will never work in SEC. Good game to get rust off. Next week expect 200+ yards.

4. Bray made good decisions all night. Never been happier with him.

5. Hunter looked good. Had so rust, but pretty happy with him in 2nd half. I think we purposely tried to get him touches.
