He was so good his freshman year that I'm willing to bet that some of the issues last year were due to the lack of coaching. Overall confusion on D seemed to be common. I bet a Spring and Fall camp, and we'd have at least 3 quality LB's between Henry, Banks, and Roman. Agree he should maybe put 10-15 lbs back on though.

He was “coached” during his sophomore year by a guy that was unqualified to be coaching linebackers at this level. Likewise, the DL had no coach. So, to me, it is not surprising that these positions made no progress or regressed. Also, not surprising that he might get discouraged by the whole mess.

I hope he comes back and gets back on track to being the player we were expecting.

He was trying to do too much a lot of times last year, that's a trap good players on bad teams often fall into. He's a damn good player though. It would be a major, major positive if he comes back.

Easy to assign blame without knowing what the scheme was. When it comes to who probably was out of position between whoever played star that day and Henry T I’m inclined to think it was the slot corner blowing his assignment.

Basically what you're saying is he shouldn't be allowed to look after his own self interest. Why? It's a standard most normal adults wouldn't subject themselves to but you're good to stand in judgement of what's best for Henry T?

And you can't throw a slant pattern without a dependable (in timing and placement) window between defensive linemen. So some of our past breakdowns might have even come from those positions.

I do feel like we batted down more balls the previous year at the line. Seemed like they never had their hands up to influence passing lanes but I could be misremembering.

Good, I guess.....
Battered Vol Syndrome has me not really caring. Whoever they have on the roster will trot out there for the season opener and they will do whatever they will do. Hard to have much excitement anymore.

Has the SEC ruled yet on if there will be instant eligibility for inter-conference transfers? If not then Henry T might just be waiting for that ruling to come out.
