JA granted temporary restraining order against NCAA eligibility rules

Joey is 24, will be 25 when the season starts. Michael Penix, Bo Nix, Tyler Shough, Jayden Daniels and our VFL Hendon Hooker were all drafted between the ages of 24-26 in the last 3 years.

Tyler Shough was in college for 7 years at 3 different schools. This would be Joey’s 4th division 1️⃣ year at 3 different schools.

TJ Finley is going to his 7th school in 7 years. I say this to say Joey isn’t even that old compared to other QBs on similar paths. His issue is JUCo years counting towards his career eligibility.

He’d finish the season at 25 and we’ve seen guys in his age range be drafted, including HH.
Facts

No, I'm relatively sure it's for ONE more year of eligibility. Thanks for your hysterics - they were funny...
Not hysterical at all, I'm just familiar with the "just the tip" situation that we've seen play out with NIL, "it won't be that much money," and transfers, "not that many players will want to transfer," that we've seen with college football.

Just watch and wait.

I wanted to move on simply because JA's performance continues to include game affecting critical turnovers. That didn't change last year.

4 years of D1 and you are gone.

Yeah not anymore. Schools have no right to say that someone cannot play, and the NCAA has no right to enforce such a requirement. That is restricting the player's ability to earn an income. Four years, six years, eight years, they should be able to play!

/s, just in case anyone can't figure that out

I think his argument is, today it's 5 yrs to play, next it'll be someone suing for 6, 7, 8 etc

I think the JUCO vs eligibility are different arguments though. I think the NCAA can win on setting a number of years, it's no different than term limits of class president, some job or contract work. No one is guaranteed a job

The issue with JUCO vs NCAA is that they're separate entities. JUCO could have 12:00 min games if they wanted but NCAA has 15:00 mins. Neither have governing power over the other and what you do in one shouldn't matter what you do in the other.

Knoxnews says it was only a 15-day order. Not sure what that means long term.

"On Feb. 4, Chancellor Christopher Heagerty issued the 15-day order in Knox County Chancery Court."
Within 15 days there will be a hearing on extending the injunction until there is a final hearing on the entire merits of the case. The chancellor will be charged with determining three things: 1. Does Joey Aguilar have no adequate remedy at law; 2. Will he suffer "irreparable harm" if an injunction is not granted; and 3. Will he likely succeed if his case is fully heard and tried on the merits. If JA can show these three things he will be granted an injunction until the case can be heard on the merits. If the case is not heard before Joey can play this fall, it will likely be dismissed due to the issues being rendered moot.

The players need THEIR OWN COMMISIONER now. Things like insurance, stability of their chance to get an education (if they so choose), and transparency in general. This wild west sh## will sort itself out eventually, but the long term stability has to be dealt with now. I believe that the players, if they don't go to the NFL should have the right to get a degree, but the school school shouldn't be on the hook for the cost. The guys can pay it back with NIL money or the terms could be within the print of their contract.

I think it's a done deal at this point. The 15 days is pretty much so the NCAA can try and counter the judges points but bullet point 1 is big

For the record, I think Joey A has a case here but I'll be side eyeing all you guys when UT faces a nearly 30yo QB playing his 9th year of college ball and y'all start with "This is ruining college football......"

Just like we were all in on Donde and the TN Attorney General giving the NCAA hell over our recruiting techniques with Nico, until recruiting turned really messy and Ohio State starts flipping our guys with shady tricks or Miami goes shady to get Mensah into the portal.

When it happens to us, you guys will cry like kicked dogs that "the system is broken."

It is broken and you like it today. Just remember that tomorrow.

He’s not going to get a ton of reps in the spring.
Which will help GM. We know what we are getting with Joey. This will help the young guys develop and be ready to go if something helps to QB1. It’s a great situation.

It’s not a bad or illegal rule. It’s common sense that no one should play this long.
College football isn’t “college” football anymore. It’s a semi pro league where people are paid to play. The game you’re talking about is dead and gone. FWIW I don’t like it either but let’s talk about reality

Fair.

...but today I'll celebrate.

all you against this...if he leads us to the CFP, money on everyone changing their tune....2nd year in the system was when Hooker took off.

Eh, Hooker looked good his first year, too, once he took over for Milton. Everyone was astounded he hadn't been playing all year. His play at QB helped get Tennessee to the post-season.

And the second year is when Hyatt took off.
