Chuck Webb Info???

Typical. Thread was about Chuck Webb and like most other threads gets hijacked with player comparisons and who is better.

Well I didn't know much about Chuck Webb. Now, I know more than I did so I mean it taught me something and I enjoyed reading it.

I don't think we can 3 pages on what he's doing now.

Its called conversation.

You take conversation to the extreme to the point you change your profile to make your point. Very nice.

Just remember, you threw in stats to make your point but you dont realize that Webb did not start until the Bama game (week 6) playing behind Cobb. Cobb was at the time of his dismissal one of the leading rushers in the Country. Bowl stats during that time did not count toward seasonal stats like they do today and Webb had another 250 yards not counted.

It is obvious you were too young at the time of to see Webb's playing days unlike Jamal almost 10 years later.
IF you read those around him, how they reacted you'd understand how special Webb was. I wish there were more videos of him out there but he only played 14 games.

Webb averaged more carries per game than Lewis as freshmen. They both averaged the same exact amount of yards per carry. Webb had more TD's, but Lewis added 275 yards receiving and a couple of TD's, while Webb didn't catch a pass. I'd say they were equal. Lewis was just as exciting to watch as Webb.

I've just read through all six pages... I am too young to remember much of Webb but it's crazy that some on here have said Webb was special and Jamal was not on his level. Up until a few weeks ago Jamal held the record for yards in a game and is second in the most yards in a season and helped the Ravens win the SB... that's pretty special to me.

Jamal didn't start all the games his frosh year either and split time with Travis Henry his junior year. Everyone says it takes two years to fully recover from ACL so I'll give him a pass on his junior year.

For my money, Chuck Webb was the best ball carrier I've ever seen in a Tennessee uniform.

I didn't read through all 6 pages, either. Dunno if anyone brought it up, but one of Chuck's teammates wasn't a bad ball carrier either. Reggie Cobb. They alternated at tailback.

The greatest opening drive that I've ever seen in my life was the 1989 TN/UGA game. We went 7 plays - 80 yards - and never did anything other than hand it to Reggie Cobb or Chuck Webb running between the tackles.

That was a phenomenal drive. I remember it. I also remember that they made a vendor stop selling 'Big Orange Cobb-Webb' t-shirts. Not allowed to put players names on sports memorabilia or some such thing....

Both were terrific running backs for Tennessee. I don't see the point of knocking one down for the sake of arguing that another is better. It's a shame that we didn't get to see either of these guys play an entire career healthy.

In the championship year of 1998, does anyone remember the ugly game at Auburn that we narrowly pulled out? Late in that game, Jamal picked up a huge third down conversion on a pitch play to the right after already tearing his ACL.

Both were great backs hit by unfortunate injuries. Imagine if both were healthy. We could have had multiple Doak Walker award winners and potentially a heisman winners. I am lucky to have viewed both of these players.

anybody remember the play that ended his career? It was a horsecollar type tackle, remember?

I was there, I was sittoing in "Q". If I remember correctly, he was running down our sideline, towards the South endzone. The DB had the angle and grabbed the back of his shoulderpad collar. It was sickening, his knees buckled and he went down. The entire crowd went silent.

Chuck Webb...

Not sure why there is an argument about who was better... considering 95/100 people on this board would agree that Webb was better in his short career.

Jamal Lewis, in my opinion, was a better back. (It's all subjective) As amazing as a 7 play, 80 yard drive with 2 backs seems, a 1 play drive by 1 back for however many yards vs Auburn on it's first play from scrimmage was more impressive.

Their rushing stats are virtually the same through 12 games, plus 3 catches for Webb while Jamal caught 23/275. Webb did have more TD's.

It seems Webb was great butt it also seems a lot of people are overlooking Jamal b/c of his junior year IMO.

Webb had 3 catches for 19 yards his whole career, none in his freshman year. Lewis had 23/275 his freshmen year alone. He had 39/484 yards in his career.

Stats dont tell the story. Of course if you read the media guide you see so and so have so many yards in so many games. Seeing Webb run was magical. Jamaal will go down as having a great season and one of the better backs Tenn had but seeing Webb was legendary, imo.

Yeah, stats don't say anything do they? Jamal Lewis was just soooo boring to watch. He wasn't "magical" like Webb.

:lolabove:

Nope - he wasn't "magical" like Webb. He was "magical" in his own way, which was "magical" but just not quite as "magical" as Chuck.
