Chuck Webb Info???

Yeah, stats don't say anything do they? Jamal Lewis was just soooo boring to watch. He wasn't "magical" like Webb.

:lolabove:

Didnt say he was boring, you are putting words in my mouth and making a mockery of it. If you read my other quotes, I said Jamal was a great back. i just think Chuck Webb was better and more gifted. Matter of opinion.

Stats dont tell the story. Of course if you read the media guide you see so and so have so many yards in so many games. Seeing Webb run was magical. Jamaal will go down as having a great season and one of the better backs Tenn had but seeing Webb was legendary, imo.

I understand and I won't try to argue your opinion but it seems Webb has become more magical or legendary as the years go by. I was like 8 or 9 when Webb played so as I said earlier I can't really comment on him. I just can't understand why people dismiss Jamal so quickly. When their stats through 12 games are virtually the same people pull out the well he was more magical card as if Jamal stumbled over his 1300 plus yards as a freshman.

Up until a few weeks ago Jamal held the record for yards in a game and is second in the most yards in a season and helped the Ravens win the SB... that's pretty special to me.

and yet couldn't do it in college. Webb has the 2 best rushing games by a UT back. No one is saying JL wasn't a great RB but CW just had a little something extra.

Nobody's dismissing Jamal, at least I don't think they are. It's just showing how frickinunbelievable Chuck Webb was. When someone posted that he was just a notch below Herschel and Bo, I agree. And had it not been for the injury, he might have supplanted those guys - who knows?

All I know is what my eyes saw watching him back then, and I've thought this ever since - nobody ran the ball like Chuck Webb.

How? Jamal is like 230/240 and runs like a 4.4 and can run over people. How could Webb be more gifted?

I know it's tough to detect sarcasm so just letting you know I'm really asking.

I think he means his vision and ability to anticipate where defenders are going and then go where they're not. It's how he ran the ball - not ran over people or through people or "out ran" people but how he ran the ball. Not on the same level, but he had some Barry Sanders in him.

Couldn't do what? He didn't start from day one as a freshman, and yet his freshman year is one of the best all time (UT). He tore his ACL as a sophomore and his junior year was his first year back, and splitting time with a future NFL Pro Bowler.

I'm just not understanding how a guy (NFL) second all time in rushing yards in a game and season doesn't have something extra.

You're going off NFL stats when CW never had them. Doesn't really fit into the discussion.

Also CW played 10 games his 1st year and Lewis played in 12. Not a big deal but

I wish you could've seen him live. We were so confident back then b/c we knew we had something that nobody else could really stop. I don't remember Johnnie Jones, so I'd say Jamal Lewis was the next closest thing to Webb. Lewis' game against Ga freshman year made Peyton Manning look irrelevant to our offense. Too bad he didn't play against Fla. that year.

I remember Simpson scoring...I think...5 TD's against ND in the Fall of "79...I think...he was somethng else too...

I think it proves Jamal has a little something extra.

Jamal didn't start all those games, so it's not like he was getting the load of work at first.

His something extra is better doctors.

IIRC, Webb didn't start from day 1 either.

Both didnt start the season starting. Lewis started after week 3 as a frosh and Webb after week 5. Take into account that Lewis had an extra game with the SECG to add to his yardage.

You asked why i think he is better. Jamal was a great back and people are ignoring that i said that. I think both could have been serious heisman candidates outside of their freshman year if healthy. Jamal is a great north/south runner while Webb could run to the inside and outside and cut the corners with great speed. Webb had that uncanny ability to make people miss. I and other people i know who saw Webb play would say "how the hell did he do that."

Jamal had raw speed in the open an excellent burst in the hole. I just think when Webb moved to the outside is where i would say he had the advantage.

Sure, it has nothing to do with his own abilities.

Fine, look at the ypc, both 5.9 through 12 games.

In Jamal's sophomore he was averaging 6.8 ypc before he was injured

Webb was avg. 5.2 his second year.

Sorry, Webb finished at 5.8 ypc through 12 games.

That's cool, like I said I'm not going to argue with you on your opinion. I would have liked to been older though when Webb played!

Wow, I can't believe this is still going. I did go over the top about saying Jamal couldn't hold Webbs strap, but I'm bias towards Chuck. I own a Jamal Lewis jersey, so I did love Jamal, but Webb is the best back we have had on the Hill.

Webb was more fun to watch. The run at the Cotton Bowl against Arky was poetry in motion.

I believe Lewis was stronger....seem to remember him carrying a Nebraska 'backer for 20 yards or so during the Orange bowl.

Not dismissing him quickly... I like Jamal. I don't hold any ill will towards him like some clowns do about him allegedly taking his junior season off.

But if you saw Chuck Webb play, you would have to agree that Webb was the better running back.

He only played 2 games that second year...
