Chuck Webb Info???

Yes it was that game and from were we were sitting it was like oh crap but then he walked off the field on his own so we thought everything was ok ! boy was I wrong!

chuck had said that he would never allow anyone to help him off the field, no matter how bad he was hurt. he's a man.

Jason, no offense, but I saw them both in all their home games....and you're wrong on this one. Chuck Webb was the best running back ever on the Hill.

I have never seen anything like the duo of Cobb/Webb & yes.....I had the shirt.:eek:k:

I went to every home game when both played, too. (I don't know how that's relevant) I was old enough (junior and senior in high school) to remember how good of a RB Webb was. And I wasnt old enough to suffer from dementia ( I was 24, 25, and 26) when Jamal played. They're were both great. They both played with excellent OL's and WR's. They're equal. Of course, these are opinions, because when you throw out stats, nobody seems to think they matter.

Hey buddy, I remember going with ya to all of them. we almost wrecked in that ford mustang myrt was driving. those were fun times. yeah.... uhhhhm yep..

Webb was the greatest. I don't think his combination of power, speed, cutting ability, and vision will never be matched again at Tennessee.

Jamal Lewis is/was better.

Are you serious? I thought Jamal Lewis was only the second best back on our team when he was wearing UT orange. Travis Henry was, in my estimation, the better college back. He certainly broke for more long runs than Lewis and seemed far more dependable.

That said, Chuck Webb and Reggie Cobb on the same team...those were the days!

The Cobb/Webb Connection was lethal. Webb almost single handedly tore Arkansas apart in the Cotton Bowl. The moves he had were incredible. He could run east and west just as good as he could run north and south. I was at the game, sitting in the student section, when he tore up his knee. For those who never got to see him play, well you missed seeing one of the finest backs to ever run through the T.

webb was the best that i've ever seen. i have reruns on tape that i look at from time to time and he's still the best.

Would you consider putting those in digital format? Do a search on YouTube. You can find a grand total of one video with Chuck Webb footage.

Sad thing is that you can't find much with Reggie Cobb, either. If you want to take a bit of relief down memory road in the regard, check out this one:

Or for a better quality shot and some major jets but not the great angle of that first one:

Webb and Jamal are on a different level as far as UT backs are concerned. As long as everyone agrees on that, we can talk about the rest.

I too say Cobb-Web was the best backfield we ever had. It's not even close! Web was dynamic and Cobb was very good. Lewis was a great back. He had the most physical ability of any RB we have ever had. But, he didn't have the heart. The last season we might have been better off if he had just gone pro early. He really put on a show against GA down in K town once. It was the greatest performance I had ever personally watched at Neyland. But at other times he let me down. In the long run I think Henry was more productive for us than Lewis.

yes, but keep an eye on espn classic they have, in the past, shown the 1990 cotton bowl against arkansas. that game is one of the best examples of webb's greatness.

I still have the Cotton Bowl game on tape where Webb ran for something like 250 yards. That game along with Travis Stephens performance at Florida stand out the most. I just think Webb saw the whole field better than any back we've had.

I beg to differ.....Jamal was CLOSE....but when it came to the prototypical running back, Chuck was it. Vision, power, speed, instinct.....he just had it.

Watched both play their entire careers. Chuck was the better back of the two hands down.

I'm a big Jamal fan, but he didn't come close to Chuck Webb. I'll never forget the headline in the Tennessean when we beat Bama with Webb and Cobb, "Bama ran into a Cobb Webb."

You maybe thinking Auburn but Cobb/ Webb never played together against or beat Bama. Cobb was kicked off the team for drugs and Webb became the featured back in a 47-30 loss in 1989.

It was one of the games they played together, and they both had 100+ yards in the game. Maybe it was Auburn, but I know it was against one of the big boys which we were not supposed to run over like we did.

Reggie Cobb will always be what I measure all Tennessee running backs by. He was an expert in picking the best line. I remember seeing him run up to the line where the play was called, see that the hole wasn't there, and then run behind the line and check the next spot, reject it and then finding the sweet spot and he's off to the races. It's really difficult to describe, but it all happened in a split second and you could see his helment jerk a little as he went No, No, Yes. After watching Cobb play it's really depressing watching RB's run blindly up to a clogged line of scrimage and get nothing.

I think you may have Cobb and Webb confused. While Cobb was one of the best, Webb WAS THE best of all time. Any good fan would use Webb as the measuring stick. You are right though - the backs that Tennessee has today are nothing compared to those before them.
