Chuck Webb Info???

Too bad some entrepeneur didn't think about that a month or so before the game. Would've been hard core to see the stadium filled with Cobb-Webb t shirts for the Arky game.

I have me a sweet "Tennessee 6th man basketball" shirt. It says Alltel on the back so I'm guessing it's from the Jerry Green era.

Got it at a Thrift store in North Carolina for like 50 cent.

Jamal Lewis could easily be a NFL and college fooball Hall of Famer. I don't even know what Webb went on to do, but I know he wasn't rushing for nearly 1,400 yards as a freshman, running a 4.4 forty at 240lbs, and breaking the NFL's single season rushing record.

Wow... just wow.

I was there when webb rushed for 294 against ole miss as a freshman. majors took him out because they had misscalculated how many yds he had,(thought he broke 300). phenomenal running back. as someone said earlier, he had all the physical tools but especially vision and patience. I mean he was the closest to a sure thing I have ever seen up there in terms of 100+ yds a game. when he got the ball, something spectacular was right around the corner. I love jamal, dont get me wrong, he was a freaking race horse from the jump but ultimately, webb was the greatest. I sincerely wish you young guys could have watched him more than some cotton bowl highlites.

If Johnny Majors said Chuck was in the same breath as Tony D., then thats all I need to hear.

You're not trying to downplay Jamal, but he "can't hold Webb's jockstrap"?

Yeah, Webb isn't even in the top 24 in all-time rushers at UT and you put in in the same class as Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson.
guy, he only played one year and 2 games!!!!! in the full year he did play as a freshman by the way, he split time with another pretty good back by the name of reggie cobb(until he got booted). I'm not trying to blast you, but you dont have any perspective here.

My father...who has been watching the Vols since '69....said he believes Chuck might have been....just might have been....the best football player we have ever had....if only for a short while.

I hardly need perspective. He said Jamal was nowhere near the talent or player Webb was, and that's plain comical. Apparently you didn't read through the thread and have no frame of reference.

Not that this has anything to do with pure talent per se, but Chuck was also extremely pleasing aesthetically to watch. When he ran it was like silk.....he just flowed.

anybody remember the play that ended his career? It was a horsecollar type tackle, remember?

I thought he simply made a cut on the :censored: astroturf and his knee popped. It HAS been a while though.

Easy, Dude...

OK, nowhere near the talent may be strong, but there is no debate who was the better athlete/talent. If you polled 100 Vol fans that actually saw Webb and Lewis (as opposed to those that just opened up a football almanac), you would get 75 votes for Webb... easily...
