Arnett to transfer?

question for those that might know.

What would happen if arnett just doesn't come back to UT and enrolls at UM or MSU without the release?

He would be ineligible to play football on scholarship. He can go to whatever school he wants if he pays for it. The NCAA isn't QUITE God.

yes, central michigan is in his hometown. however ann arbor and east lansing are well within commute distance. I drove an 1 1/2 hrs to school 4 days a week for 2 years. it's quite possible. I'm not saying he would live at home and commute (the college i went to the athletes had to live on campus). But he would easily be able get home quickly, while still attending and playing for a BCS school.

Central Michigan is NOT in his hometown. It is 1hr 15min from his hometown. CMU is in Mt Pleasant, and he is from Saginaw.

His hometown has no D1 schools. EMU is hour and 40 or something like that.

MSU and CMU are the closest to his home

Kid should be able to go where he wants, end of story.

Agree, and what possible good does it do for this University to force this on him? He will be leaving for somewhere and this does nothing but paint us in a negative light and provide negative recruiting ammunition for other coaches IMO.

Well, it shows that supposed dishonesty gets you a middle finger from the brass, and that is what UT is all about

Hubbs said on VQ that because of the timing of Arnett leaving UT, he didn't complete an entire year of classes, he may have to sit out more than just a year. There is a rule in the NCAA handbook about leaving mid-year. I think that has a lot to do with why Arnett is acting the way he is honestly.

Ahh but Dooley is a saint for releasing him at all!

I guess I am just ignoring the major things and focusing in minor stuff that would actually have any bearing on the program.

Depends. Is it about football or his dad?

We know the answer , but it's not the one he would give. It's his way out. I hope nothing happens to his dad , but if he passed away tomorrow , what would the reason be then? Closer to the family who were not even close to him? DA and his father have just got back to knowing eachother. His father was ill when he signed and it wasn't a problem then. Go back and watch him commit. He barely even mentions him. He talks about all of his family and just thanks his dad as if he isn't there. He never talked about him in his interviews or videos. He did a special on how rough it was where he grew up and how he was glad to get out. He considers Ralph his father if anything. He wants out of Tennessee. That's it. End of story. He is a good kid and I wish him well , but it really comes down to getting what he wants. It's not my decision to make , but I understand what CDD is doing here. You make choices and you have to deal with them. Nobody is keeping him here. He is free to leave to be "closer" to the family. That's what he supposedly wants and he can be right there with them.

Here is what LWS was saying about that...

someone in his family told VQ writer last night he was requesting a release. there could be several different reasons for what he is now saying and it might be too early to determine why the change in his position.

Maybe CDD told him he would not release him at this time. If he doesn't, then there is a 2 year sitting period for a true freshman that leaves in the middle of his freshman season.

that is one possible answer but I don't know why..

I don't get this. There are rules. UT has a policy. We have enforced it before and we are enforcing it again-- just like other schools do and have done for decades.

The PR nightmare is going to come into play if we let a teenager dictate policy through media blackmail. If UT's policy isn't the right one, then the people in charge of it need to take another look at it for the future. But, for now, we are enforcing the policy we have. No further comment. Story over.

You really think it is worse from a PR standpoint to let him go than to not let him go?

There will be a news frenzy no matter what UT does, policy or not. People make money off of selling papers and adv. for their shows. They will put a spin on it no matter how true it is.

Yep especially considering Arnett will be the one who looks bad when he 1. Hasn't even lived with his dad for awhile 2. His dad was not involved his recruitment and 3. His dad was sick when he came here.
