Why not Mike Leach?

Gawd help us if he's the choice. For a storied program that is built on the likes of Neyland, Cafego, Majors and Fulmer to hire a guy like this? Well....I just have no words for it. My guy is Fuente. I'd resigned myself to Mullen. Dreamed it might be Peterson, but to wake up and see this? Can't be Leach. Just can't be.

Has he ever had a defense at any of his stops. The conferences he has coached in usually do not require defense.

Even after the gashing last night, WSU's #15 in the nation in Total D...in one of those offensive conferences (the Huskies are #5).

At some point yesterday, I was flipping channels and someone was talking about Bammer's D being #1 in some category. He said something like "the Tide only allows blah, blah, blah, - but they do play in the SEC, a conference that doesn't put up that many points" or "not known for offense."

I was like "say what?"

Leach is like Mullen IMO. Career record isn't mind blowing, but he's always had mediocre jobs. Seems to do more with less. I'd prefer Leach over Leach simply because because of press conferences, lol. Either would need to bring a solid DC.

We haven't seen a denial from Petersen as of yet....Just maybe

I think Petersen is just a fantasy right now, but I have to admit it's a nice one. I would love to wake up to that hiring tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I think the best we can hope for is the tier with Leach, Campbell, or maybe Mullen.

a) you do realize Leach has a law degree right? He could talk to the media for 10 minutes straight and give no actionable information

b) which from reading that link looks exactly like what he did. He didn’t deny interest. He said he couldn’t talk to rumors.

And frankly with the names going around today I’d take Leach in a heart beat. He is still loved by TTU fans and would still be there if not for that douche Craig James. He will score points. Make no doubt. He is an offensive savant. The DC and D staff would be key. He would have to have a self supporting defensive staff. But I’m the same token he could literally just out score opponents. Saw him do it many times.

But if you thought Dooley was weird with the Rommel crap you better be prepared to learn more than you ever wanted to know about pirate culture. He’s an odd ball but hes a colorful odd ball

We could admittedly do a lot worse. He would come fairly cheap. And he would put offensive numbers up not seen in decades here.

Guys, I had to go to page 11 to find this thread. At this point, we should send Peyton with his hat in his hand asking if Leach will lead the Vol Navy.

If you don't think he's a good coach, click on my name and see the stats I have posted in this thread. We're obviously not going to get Gruden, Kelly, Frost...even Mullen...and Leach could turn out to be better than any of them.

After all the misses so far, and the Schiano mess (which he shoulda never been a top option anyhow, period).....Mike Leach literally let a rumor leak a few days ago that he would accept the job if offered! And I've not heard 1 word of Currie even pursuing the man. Makes no sense. He'd be an excellent choice at this point. And WashSt has been paying him a measly 2.85mil a yr, which we could double in a heartbeat to get a legit, winning Head Coach and end this mess. CALL MIKE LEACH! Currie's deafness to the fanbase is getting irritating. It's like he's walking to the beat of his own drum. Hell, reports said Les Miles reached out to sum Boosters last nite to gauge interest even! Gimme Leach or Miles and let's get recruiting salvaged for next yr before we look any worse than we already do (if that's even possible, smh).

I have been saying this for a while. At this point, it is malpractice not to offer Mike Leach the job. He is a winner!

Why do we keep throwing middle of the road coaches out there before we even contact real winners? Mike Leach hasn't won anything! Let's stop offering scrubs and go after the big boys. If they turn us down then we turn our attention to what's left.

Thats what just happened. Mike Leach will at least be exciting on offense. The ceiling is pretty high. Likely he wont go far in the SEC but worth a shot IMO

Get this...Washington State Ranked #15 in the country in total defense. That's kind of a shocker for an air raid type team...definitely a plus.

#3 in passing offense, not really a surprise, but nothing to sneeze at either.

Still, and I'm a fan...I wonder if the rather conservative fans among us might not find him difficult...he ain't boring.
