I’d say he helped win games and the most evident one being the bowl game even though he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He didn’t look great but If he hadn’t lead us into FG position in his one and only drive we lose by 2 even with the successful on side kick. It’s easy to thank Eric Gray because he was the MVP but without Maurer we lose too.
Also, as a coach, you’re doing yourself, the fan base and your players an injustice if you don’t look at WHY said ints occurred to begin with. And I’m sure Pruitt and Chaney have done just that. His first int hit DWA in the chest vs UF in a game he was equally as unprepared to play in as the coaching staff themselves were to make the change. His second was vs UGA. You can’t see it on the game replay because the camera wasn’t aimed at Palmer but I’m sure on coaches film they can see that Palmer got tangled up with the db and stumbled after the ball had already been released. However he did put too much air under it anyway. If he had rail shot it it goes out of bounds. His third and fourth were both vs MSU. Both were terrible decisions. But one was literally 2 plays after bouncing off his head and it can be argued that maybe Chaney should’ve ran the ball to preserve the points after such an occurrence. His 5th JJ handed to Alabama and even JJ himself knows that. As a coach you gotta take these things into consideration even when the fans don’t. Because if coaches thought like fans then qb coaching would be as simple as “whoever has the best stats is the best qb” and I think we all should know it’s not that simple.
