Who will be the qb this year?

0-2 in openers the last two seasons, and JG's performance against SC in 2017 and 2018 has me worried. Plus, Will Muschamp will be coaching for his job this year. We may have a new QB after an 0-1 start.

Yea and that was when Bama had won Championships what felt like every year...now he has evolved...we wont get thise kinda horses he at UT till we win
Won one way until other programs (Clemson) caught up and surpassed then switched to another. We have that level of WR’s already recruited and signed.

That was the book on Saban...how about now?
His roster changed and he went all in with Tua. They haven't won a championship since he changed and I expect them to go back to a run 1st offense this season. He tried it unsuccessfully for 2 seasons, I think he goes back to his old ways. Fair point though because he did in fact migrate to a pass 1st style.

Bryce Young isn’t a game manager type.

Meh I think that is more to do with defense. Their 2 losses last year they gave up 46 and 48 points. 44 to Clemson in 2018 championship. Not going to win many big games giving up that many. That is the loss of Pruitt imo.

But their offense and scoring margins were all time highs last 2 seasons. Don't see any reason to go back if you get an elite DC again. I don't see many run 1st teams ever winning it all again, maybe some anomalies eventually. LSU stumbled for years banging their heads in the wall trying to run and scored something like 10 points in 3 years vs Bama. They finally open up and voila! Same reason Kirby is going to Monken.

Maybe. I know some folks that are in pretty good with the Bama camp and every indication they have given me is that Bama is going back to running the football and controlling field possession and time of possession. I believe their passing numbers will go way down but not necessarily their scoring output.

We'll see, word out of their camp is that their RBs are clearly their best playmakers this year. I think Young is a year away unless they've poured the deer antler spray all over him, looks to be 170 lbs soaking wet.
You mean there is a 5* qb that is “under sized”? How’d that happen? He must have played for like.... Mater Dei or something. 😕

I do not know and do not believe there is enough information to say how it is shaking out. The default is JG... but that's troubling unless he's improved A LOT. I'm on record doubting that a RS Sr makes that kind of turn around.

Hopefully, if JG starters and stumbles again... the staff has the other guys more prepared when their shot comes.

PS- I see nothing that says HB will be a factor this year and particularly early. The public comments by the coaches make it sound like he's behind... about where you'd expect a Fr to be who has not been the focus of the off season with or without Covid.

To have a Fr "ready to play" you have to make them the focus leading into the season. A Fr starting the first game is generally a "desperate" move caused by a failure to sign and develop QB's.

JG will definitely be the starter in Carolina. I am hopeful that another year under this regime will only do him a positive and help him make large strides. The question for me is the receivers now with all of the change. If they were able to work out together and get in a groove, I think he has a shot to be pretty good. Just cut out the bonehead mistakes he seems to make at times and we can be ok.

If JG plays like he did in the last 7 minutes of the bowl game against IU, then I'm fine with it. Of course, he was playing IU and had much better receivers than he does now - so....yeah....I'm worried.

I think he has more overall receiving talent at his disposal.

I really like this young group of WRs and combined with Palmer, Johnson and Keyton they could be productive this year. I agree with you, I think this can be a position of strength down the road in a year or 2. Biggest question mark I see with the young receivers is if they can hold up physically against SEC defensive backs. Palmer is the stud of the group, I think he'll have a big year.

its a 100% certainty that JG will be the starter to open the season unless he injures himself. The only possible replacement is Bailey and I dont think the coaches have even seen him in pads yet.

I have no worries about physicality with Wideman or Beckwith...they’re freaks. But the best route runner in recent Vol memory is Wyatt imo and with the added dimension of elite speed added, I project eventual greatness for him all things being equal. Your physical point might be his biggest initial hindrance but he’s been compensating fairly well these last 4 seasons. Now to see how quickly he does that at the next level. All said I see some big highlights with his name attached sooner rather than later.
