Who will be the qb this year?

I have no worries about physicality with Wideman or Beckwith...they’re freaks. But the best route runner in recent Vol memory is Wyatt imo and with the added dimension of elite speed added, I project eventual greatness for him all things being equal. Your physical point might be his biggest initial hindrance but he’s been compensating fairly well these last 4 seasons. Now to see how quickly he does that at the next level. All said I see some big highlights with his name attached sooner rather than later.
I can certainly see it happening for him as speed kills! I just remember how thin Hunter was and that dude was 6'4 and a blazer, didn't do a whole lot as a Fr, Peerless was small his Fr year and didn't do much, Joey Kent did nothing and I don't even know if Stallworth played his 1st year. I'm all for speed I just can't recall the small guys having much success their Freshman seasons. If we get 200-400 yards from him this season would be big and point towards future stardom. Either way he's one of the reasons I like this group. I'm bigger on Dee than most for several reasons, one is we have worked with he, his brother and family the last 3 years and I know what type of kid he is. With his measurements and how hard he plays the game I just think he's gonna be a star in Knoxville.

I addressed the physical factor with Hyatt previously but I’ll add that he’s impressively sized up since his signing. Ways to go but his route running ability paired with that speed and quickness is a considerable advantage when milliseconds count at this level. I see Beckwith and Wideman being advantages we haven’t seen in quite awhile when you need that x-factor freak in short yardage/end zone situations. And that occasional big play downfield.

He's already been having that year the past 2, just with fewer attempts. Better YPA, same TD:INT ratio and comp%. Equal or better QBR. Crompton's bar was just sooo much lower before his SR year it felt like a great year and it was a huge jump for him indeed.
I feel like that's the exact same with JG considering he was the #1 (or what ever) dual threat QB back then.

No doubt, I think old Vol fans recognize good WRs pretty easily and everyone seems to be excited with this group. I've heard nothing but compliments about Hyatt's route running.

No way any coach is on the hot seat after this "Covid" year (other than Derick Mason).
Honestly I don't think he will be. After all they are a baseball school and doctors and lawyers graduate from their. I just don't see them caring about football. Hell they had Franklin and let him go. That should tell you all you need to know

Don't forget Dan Wolkens and Clay Travises. That place somehow single-handedly produces half of the world's garbage.

JG deserve some respect. He is your guy this season and possibly next season. Unless he just throw 10 int in the fist few games other than that he is your starter. This fan base need to be more positive when it come to JG. All the negative energy will not help your QB. We never seen him play with the same OC back to back years so give him a chance he may be great this year.

Pruitt gave an unproven undersized not ready Fr QB 4 starts this past season, your take is absolute garbage. If anything Pruitt proved that he will indeed try someone else at QB if needed.
You're love affair with a college kid is absolutely garbage.

Were those all full scrimmage practices with pads and actual defense? Sincerely asking as I don't know.
They were full practices...whatever usually gets done before the O&W Game.

I don't understand why folks remark on this at all, Pruitt was clear all season that JG was always going to play even when he didn't start, Pruitt literally said on multiple occasions that more than 1 QB was going to play last year.
I find it funny that you insist he is undersized at 6’4 200 lbs. when he’s already bigger than some of the NFL QBs I’ve already used to prove you wrong. If he were a pocket passer you’d be right. But he’s not just a pocket passer. So you’re wrong.

Coach treats everyone like that when they screw up, seems to help most of the players. You can go look at our roster before the Florida game and after the Fl game if you want to find out which players couldn't take it. Pruitt cleaned house and we've been a good football team ever since.
It's one thing I really like about Pruitt. There will be no participation trophies handed out on his team.

Plenty of freshman QBs have come in and started at power 5 programs without attending spring practice
They also had a full summer, Harrison didn’t. But who exactly came in and performed at a winning level recently not just played? I’m curious because I can’t think of any not, saying you’re wrong.

Brent Schaffer and Erik Ainge here at Tennessee albeit it was 2004

Not going to lie, Shrout has as much if not more arm talent besides bailey maybe. There could be a bigger competition next year than anyone thought. I know Maurer has wheels and that’s the new sexy in qb’s in college football but look at Chaney at Georgia and Pruitt at bama. They want a qb that will safely deliver the football and efficiently run the offense. Maurer has a clock because Salter is coming and is more athletic with a cannon.
"...because Salter is coming and is more athletic with a cannon?"

He probably should have brought the cannon along with him to the Elite 11 rather than leaving it at home. His arm didn't look strong at all in that competition.

what is going on with Harrison Bailey? I have not heard great things thus far. is he a bust?

Post officially marked for future reference. This is how it begins. Well, after the unbridled hype that creates the vacuum that sucks into it all the bust proclamations.

Tn list him as 6'3 195, so he's not 6'4 and he's not 200 lbs. Even if he was 200 it's not lean muscle. He needed to add 20 lbs this offseason and probably needed 50 more lbs to his bench press. He doesn't look like he's added weight or muscle to me. He's the smallest of all our QBs and he seems to be the most injury prone. I've also not heard a single coach mention that he's spending xtra time in the film room or weight room, not heard anyone mention he's picking the playbook up well or any of them bragging on him for getting bigger, faster, stronger, more mature as a person (although Weinke did say he's improved some there) or any of the little things you have to do to be a starter. His Twitter escapades last year could not have helped him much either with earning the coaches trust. There are so many things he needs to improve on to be a capable starting QB and I don't see any indication that he's much different today than he was a year ago. Injuries set back his development and now being buried on the depth chart looks like that is hurting his development too. Hopefully he'll have his degree by the time he's registered as a SO, if he does that then he'll have some options to transfer. I would not mind seeing him stick around as a quality backup I just don't see him staying here if that were the case. If he doesn't play much this season I suspect we will see him at a mid major somewhere for 3 seasons.

Watch his film, he’s got a cannon.
