People are going to make jabs on either side of this discussion, in the long run our opinions have very little impact on what happens. The thing all this does have an impact on is recruiting. For a Vol fan to post so much negativity on boards daily, we will be lucky if any big name recruits come to the Hill to play their next 4 years.
We live in a social environment where people seek info at the click of the mouse, if you are one of those that think what gets posted on a message board does not impact decisions, don't cry like babies when top recruits decide to go elsewhere. If I had a son who was being recruited by UT and he had other offers from big schools, UT would not be getting my blessing based on all the fire DD threads and posts.
Yet you fail to mention any other circumstances that led to that beyond his control.
A starting roster that was on par with the Vandy's and Kentucky's his first year.
A young, promising roster his second year that featured Bray and Hunter getting hurt. Lathers getting hurt. Janzen getting kicked off. In their place we start Simms/Worley, Zach Rogers, two freshman LBs, and a freshman safety.
Three senior classes that were left for him that have been awful beyond comprehension.
And 2-3 mid to late round NFL draft picks left to him.
Think that contributed at all?
Simms could have won those games, quit making excuses.Yet you fail to mention any other circumstances that led to that beyond his control.

Defending the following.
14-16 Record-A quarter into his third year, with the best win being over Cincinnati.
4-14 Record-In the SEC, best win is over a 6 win Vanderbilt team.
0-19-Career record against ranked opponets.
36-15-Average margin of defeat against ranked opponets.
6-Number of 30+ point losses while at UT. 5 from SEC opponets.
1-8-Road record in the SEC, lone win was against Vanderbilt.
26-The streak that ended against UK last year in what has to be the lowest of all lows.
If UT were looking to hire a new head coach and one of the candidates career numbers looked like this, would he be someone you would consider worthy for the position?
This year belongs to Dooley. The roster problems were a reason for the first two years. By year 3, you own it.
It is absolutely ridiculous to make a comparison between the roster Saban inherited and the one Dooley inherited. Bama's was superior and it isn't close. He STILL had a bad year and lost to ULM. Saban has gotten better players. He also started from a much more favorable position.

I see no one has attempted to answer the question in the OP. I'll ask again, if UT were looking to hire a coach right now and one of the candidates had career marks as Dooley does, would you consider him worthy of the position?
Pretty misleading since that team only avg'd 27 ppg. It was a defense led team with several future NFL stars on it.People are equating the talent that Saban developed to the talent Saban was given. Most coaches would be around 7-9 wins/year with the talent that Saban was left with. By Week 5 in Year 2 Saban was using a 3* recruit Senior QB, a 3* recruit JR RB and a True Freshman WR as his main offensive playmakers.
So here we have it. Your opinion about what Dooley would have done with a much better roster than he inherited is now the proof you base your opinion on.There is a distinct difference. With that squad Dooley would have likely gone 6-6 at best and everyone would be lamenting how Dooley only had 3*s to start and he didn't have enough upperclassmen with any experience, etc etc etc.
Context. With that said, there isn't any fair comparison with Dooley. His record is absolutely abysmal.
Really? You are going to stop pointing fingers? That would be refreshing. No more excuses. No more finger-pointing.
If the rah-rah crowd can wax about going in the right direction all the time then so can the rest of us.
It has nothing to do with being "rah-rah" it has to do with keeping the recruiting process we have going.
Getting our roster where it needs to be, then when DD lays an egg, we can fire him with confidence that we could get any coach we want.
No top tier coach will come here if he sees beforehand that all he will get is 3 years to rebuild.
You have to honor the contract, then let the chips fall where they may.

Why does Dooleys contract need to be honored ? If that's the case how come Fulmers contract wasn't honored?
If Dooley was winning, there would be no negavols. People don't care who the coach is as long as Tn wins and I'm not talking about beating up on FCS schools ky,vandy.
I wonder how many VN posters that are defending Dooley are the same ones that was calling for Fulmers head.
