Want To Know What's Really Embarrassing?

Using this theory, he is here for life no matter what the record. Under this no coach would ever be fired.

No, using this theory he is here till it's completely totally logical to fire him. If we only win 2 or 3 more games this year then we might have to this year but just be ready for the consequences.

Yet you fail to mention any other circumstances that led to that beyond his control.

A starting roster that was on par with the Vandy's and Kentucky's his first year.

A young, promising roster his second year that featured Bray and Hunter getting hurt. Lathers getting hurt. Janzen getting kicked off. In their place we start Simms/Worley, Zach Rogers, two freshman LBs, and a freshman safety.

Three senior classes that were left for him that have been awful beyond comprehension.

And 2-3 mid to late round NFL draft picks left to him.

Think that contributed at all?

These are all good reasons in year one and two but we are in year three and are starting as many upper classmen as any team in the SEC.

Defending the following.

14-16 Record-A quarter into his third year, with the best win being over Cincinnati.

4-14 Record-In the SEC, best win is over a 6 win Vanderbilt team.

0-19-Career record against ranked opponets.

36-15-Average margin of defeat against ranked opponets.

6-Number of 30+ point losses while at UT. 5 from SEC opponets.

1-8-Road record in the SEC, lone win was against Vanderbilt.

26-The streak that ended against UK last year in what has to be the lowest of all lows.

If UT were looking to hire a new head coach and one of the candidates career numbers looked like this, would he be someone you would consider worthy for the position?

so your point is.........? should we all just be upset angry mad and cry over our current coach? Unfortunately not everyone loves to be the debbie downer and always wants to bash on other people. Dooley is here and will be here. If you hope he loses so he will be fired then you are not a fan on Tennessee Athletics.. Either you're on the train or not on the train..pick one...support the team coaches and school or dont. pretty simple...

Yeah!! Let's just keep our heads down, our mouths shut and act like losing is not a big deal!! Let's just hope and pray 3-4 years from now that we are no longer fighting Vandy and UK for last in the east. Dooley has never been a winner, but if we act like things are great on Rocky Top, I am sure it all will be!!

Nah. Let's just be stupid and negative on public chat boards known to be visited by recruits and their families. Everyone knows the ONLY way you can act like losing is a big deal is by droning on and on on the internet about how bad the coach is and thereby doing all you can to demonstrate to recruits that there's instability so they won't even consider a visit.

That way if Dooley finishes 7-5 and is shown the door... the new coach can have his pick of a bunch of mid-tier recruits. Those guys will then be forced into duty as Fr almost assuring that the new coach will have a poor record his first year too. Basically let's make sure a potential new HC starts behind the 8 ball in recruiting... has to re-start the whole process.

You've convinced me. That's a wonderful plan for assuring the program wins a championship with nothing more than a coaching change.

<No sarcasm> YOU NEED GREAT PLAYERS. Hate Dooley all you want. Hart will base his future on results. Just have a small amount of intelligence about how you express that hatred... so that you don't hurt the next guy's chances too.

And the season isn't over.

Uga is a top 5 team

Florida is in the top 10.

We could go 6-1 and get into a damn good bowl.

You may be right and I hope you arebut the only thing we have to go off of is what has taken place up until now. Can you show stats that show we are improving or that we have hope?

As long as the team doesn't quit on him again and he plows through the weak November schedule he will return. Unfortunately for him and the Doolicans 2013-14 season there will be no excuses.

If we fire Dooley, the world implodes. Who knew?

If you go off half cocked and fire Dooley without a well thought out plan in place, then you very possibly set this program 2 years with another buyout tab to settle and put us back deeper in this nightmare of a hole we have been slowly digging our way out of for going on 3 years now..

I am not saying I do not disagree with some of what you have to say but I am sick to death of the incessant broken record whining.. I want to here a plan from you.. Let's say I am Lord of Football at UT for the moment... I have just put you in charge... You are the man... You make all the decisions regarding hiring, firing, budget, etc. so forth and so on....

So let's hear it Ace.. I want to hear a well thought out plan for replacing any and/or all the staff by seasons end that wont tank the program and set us back... I hear a lot of talk from some of you that if we fired Dooley today amd hired the 'right guy' that the program might even maybe, possibly take a leap forward.. Let's hear something remotely reasonable... If not, then just bite your damn tongue and be quiet for a while...

I sometimes think it might be better if the football forum were to 'accidently' get shut down for a month or two and give some of you folks a chance to breath.... haaaaa...

Peace and GO VOLS....

Didn't Dooley beat kentucky that one year? The 1-8 SEC record has to be innacurate.

First, how about you answer the question in the OP?

You go against my post and then say "he pretty much needs a miracle now". Now who is undermining themselves?
He has players that can produce that miracle if they can perform. He had the team in a position to beat UGA at UGA. Bray turned the ball over twice late in the game.

At some point, your best playmakers have to get it done in a big game. I'd remind you that UT has Bray A) because Kiffin arrogantly cut T Boyd loose thinking he could get an elite QB of his choosing and B) because he struck out on the first 5 or 6 he chased. Kiffin's "chosen" QB is so far has had it in his hands to win games that would have cooled Dooley's seat. He didn't do it.

I also stated that stats can lie by omission but not when they are this one-sided, how can context be applied to 0-19?
Context. Context. Context. Do you really believe he was handed a roster ready to compete with ranked teams or most of the SEC? Because of the poor recruiting of CPF and CLK... the roster actually got younger and thinner last year than it was in his first year.

He has the players now. He lost to UF team he should have beaten. He lost an UGA game that was winnable. Let him finish the test before you grade it based on questions answered on a different test.

It can't, at some point you beat a team you're not supposed to, happens all the time in college football and in sports in general. In 6 years, he's yet to do it once.
He has three more chances. He plays a string of 3 ranked teams that will likely determine his future. Let him complete the test.

Was it any if at all worse or better than the Bama roster that Saban took over?

People will start pumping how Dooley had to endure roster layoffs and other problems that he had no control over then and still, somehow, has no control over in his 3rd year. Or wait... is this his 2nd 1st year? I'm confused about when we can start holding Dooley accountable.

But anyway, Saban endured roster problems also. Quite a few of the relics from Franchione/Shula were undisciplined and lazy. Quite a few were kicked off the team. Saban just did a better job recruiting than Dooley is to this point. Also, winning games does a lot to distract from other issues. Key point:

Dooley switches to a 3-4 even though this is what our recruiting base looks like @LB:

2010:
1 2*
1 3*

2011:
1 3*
2 4*

2012:
1 3*

So, in total this team has 2 JR LBs, 3 SO LBs and 1 FR LB for a 3-4 base defense that fields 4 LBs at a time. The 3-4 places a large emphasis on athletic LBs. We don't have those and Dooley still chose to install the 3-4... and with a career position coach as DC.

You can't blame Kiffin. You can't blame Fulmer for that. You can blame the depth/talent/speed/etc on Dooley. They're not excuses anymore... they're symptoms.

Lets talk WRs in that timeframe:

2010:
3 4*
1 5*

2011:
1 4*

2012:
4 4*

Dooley can run a good recruiting program as long as WRs alone win championships.

And if this season mirrors those stats, I cannot agree more that Dooley should be out. BUT, if we beat MSU, if we beat South Carolina, if we beat a much improved Vandy, then man-up and admit Dooley is getting things turned around? We aren't making a change mid-season, and this team or this staff has given us absolutely no reason to consider it.

Dooley was given a tough, border-line impossible task. Turn around a team left in shambles in the toughest conference in the country. We have an explosive offense and a defense that gives up a ton of yards, but does have a knack for making big plays in big spots.

Judge Dooley on his body of work this season. If we continue to lose all of our games, the decision will be easy, you will get your wish, and he will be gone. However, if he starts to win some of these games, he may be around for a while? And guess what, if that's the case, he's earned his keep. Live with it and support your team or find someone else to root for?

I don't particularly like Dooley either ... but sheesh?? Give the guy some credit. Those kids played their hearts out Saturday. What more can you ask of 18-21 year old kids than to keep fighting hard down 17 to #5? Tell me you didn't give up? I can't say I didn't? But i can definitively say our team did not.

In 2012? After 3 solid recruiting classes? After the rebuild of the Athletic Department? After completion of Neyland renovations and the new football training facility? After rebuilding the coaching staff?

Obvious answer at this point in time is no.

2010? Vastly different situation(which has been discussed ad nauseum)

I see no one has attempted to answer the question in the OP. I'll ask again, if UT were looking to hire a coach right now and one of the candidates had career marks as Dooley does, would you consider him worthy of the position?

See above.

Upsets happen all the time. He could
Win the next 3 and he would still be 3-19.

You want to defend that record?
