Von Pearson Update

It seems he struggles under normal circumstances in school with this hanging over his head as well I doubt it's possible to concentrate and focus on grades. Again not sure if he is the victim or she is but this isn't as easy as some of you make it out to be. He is faced with the possibility of going to jail, if you already have issues with academics that isn't going to help.

Everyone is so quick to sympathize with what he's going through. So few are even remotely willing to consider what she's going through. Y'all are probably too busy saying (or alluding to the likelihood) that she's probably lying to consider it.

I would read my post again because I think I pointed out that I don't know who is victim is in this case. If he did rape her I hope they put him in jail regardless of the program.

The problem with the majority of posts regarding AJ and Von that fight for the innocent-until-proven-guilty stance is that they start with "if he did it, lock him up;" but end with a diatribe about how more and more girls are lying to try and ruin a players career and how they should sue if the girl lied and how there are different levels of rape. It's just garbage thrown into a post with the "oh but if he's guilty he's guilty." All those posts do is offer a platform for people who want to accuse the girl of lying to do so, with the BS veil of looking at both sides.

If he did it, throw away the key.
If she is lying, adofhwoeifjopaisjfpoa jsfpoajsdofj aopsjdfpoajdfo jsfpoajs dpofjaosdjfo jdpofjasofj oafoj ofoasofaposdjfoasjdopfjasop kasdvksadfpjsokdfpowefoj poifjoasjfo osaoas osa ojsodfjoa josdjfoasjopfjasoif opop jaofjaosifjopasj ojsaop jof oajf opiajsoijao joa jfosajfodofjosdfj oafj oajfoiajsfj.

I don't say this lightly, but you, sir, are... well, I'll be nice and just say naive.

There's no way to balance it. The second that a player is accused of rape and he keeps on playing is the second that our program loses all credibility.

What? No one is saying if he gets accused that he should keep playing. As a matter of fact, most of not all have praised Butch for acting swiftly and suspending his accused players. I'm talking about fair treatment under the law and their ability to be allowed to function normally in society at large...not about the privilege of playing for the Vols. Two different things.

Naive is being unable to see that that's all those posts are doing. Naive is taking a small percentage of false claims and acting like they're the rule. It's as naive as saying that 3* players are better than 5* players because a small handful of 5* players don't pan out while a decent amount of 3* players have successful careers.

AJ missed a handful of games and still graduated and interacted with the teammates and participated in graduation ceremonies as a Vol. Whether he sat out of football games or not, he wasn't getting drafted because of the case. I fail to see how the program lopped off his head.

You're talking about Butch's pitch to recruits...which are primarily male. I used these terms to relate to posters not as intelligent as you...not many of them. :salute:

Not with the AJ discussion. I'd venture to guess that the Von discussion would take the same path if we were mid-season.

No one knows her, who she even is. We can't put a face or personality with a name...we don't even have a name.

On the other hand, we know Von, have cheered for Von. It's human nature. I hope like hell the accusation is false because it means she didn't actually have to suffer the heinous act and it means that a young man didn't do something that has ruined his future.

He wasnt and still hasn't been convicted of anything. Should he just have been preemptively thrown in jail without the ability to get his degree and live his life? What are we talking about here. I also see that you completely missed the point of Butchna's post.

I think he maybe should keep playing, depending on the circumstances. Butch can make a call based on what he knows, but I hope he doesn't have a blanket policy of ALWAYS automatically throwing his players under the bus as soon as some random accuses them of something. Unfortunately, it sounds like that is indeed the policy, but if it is "he said, she said," why should Butch automatically believe the person he doesn't know from Adam rather than his player? That's the message that he sends, IMO, if he reflexively suspends 100% of the time when a player is accused of something.

But, yeah, I am apparently in a distinct minority on this point.

Just... stop. You have no idea what you're talking about.

In over 90% of reported rapes, police investigate and determine that the allegation is not credible.

It's the world we live in brother. Although the law gives him a presumption of innocence, our societal politics in our current world pretty much say the exact opposite. The program is deemed to be bigger than any one player and to that end, any coach or AD has to take this stance or have all holy hell come down on him in the form of media and general public outcry. Just the world we live in.

Yeah, I understand that. I just don't like being bullied into throwing my "family" under the bus by a PC mob--but maybe that's just me.

With 1000%. I despise the PC culture we currently live. Grossly un-American.

What was confusing?

I can't tell if you're trying to say that 90% of rapes aren't rapes or that 90% of rape allegations are just lies or if 90% of rape allegations can't be prosecuted

but most importantly, I think you're throwing out a completely bullsht statistic from a garbage study (if you didn't just make it up on the spot) with the hopes of me just letting it go

I should say the same to you. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?! OVER 90%!!! This is completely false. What are you basing this off of!?! LOOK AT THESE FACTUAL REPORTS!!

False accusation of rape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The prevalence of rape comes from many reports year to year. ONLY ONE YEAR IN 1981 reported false allegations at 90%! MOST OF THE YEARS ARE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 10 and 20%!! DONT COME IN HERE WITH YOUR KNOW IT ALL ATTITUDE REPORTING AN OBSCURED STATISTIC THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE!!!

No more than those who are considering the inverse.

Could you cite this statement so that you might stake some claim to credibility? A link would work.

It's at least 43% true. I think I saw it on that same page that said 72% of all statistics mentioned online are made up on the spot. I'm 50% sure that's where I saw it. Three out of five VN readers agree.
