It was a close game that we lost literally by inches. We had a true freshman quarterback and no good receivers.
2012 we have an NFL quarterback 2 NFL receivers and and NFL tight end and we got blown out.
I'd say that's progress.
The problem is... that wasn't his offense. He likes to throw it more. You and others have excused UT's staff because they didn't have "their players"... well just wait until Malzahn has a QB who can throw and some WR's.I tend to think his offense will fizzle out. The wildcat was a huge success when it first hit and now no one ever uses it. Malzahn got extremely lucky against Bama and even luckier against UGA.
No. He hasn't. I give credit for that but it is MORE than outweighed by almost losing to USA, being blown out 4 times, losing to a TERRIBLE UF team with a back up QB (funny how that's not an excuse for them vs UT), and then losing to an inferior Vandy team while being outcoached by Franklin.Butch has proven he can coach at this level, just ask Spurrier. Wonder what Mark Richt would say?
Please don't lie in stupid ways like this, OK? I have NOT decided that he is not a good coach. I HAVE simply pointed out the coaching this past season was subpar. There were talent issues but those did NOT excuse the games I mentioned above. The wins will come. I'm not going to be like you and decide hes not a good coach before he gets his fair chance.
I don't hate him. I am actually being pretty polite toward him with my criticism. My edge comes out with those who just insist on excusing poor performance and those attempting to set the bar so low they can excuse future failure.3 years from now if were 7-5 ill be right there with you but I'm going to stay positive and give the guy a chance before I start spreading hate.
That's exactly my point, sir.
I'm saying that I don't believe he was hurt in any significant way. Or are you suggesting that he was too injured to play but Butch played him anyway?
Pretty safe bet that Peterman was the 4th string QB at that point.... and Jones never said that Ferguson was above Dobbs. It just "sounds" like a better excuse to say that Dobbs was 4th string.

That is who we are! The 90's and early 2000's are a lifetime ago!
Oh . . Oh . . The sky is falling!
What are we going to do?
What I laugh at on way too many posters on here is looking at certain parts of certain games to determine if Tennessee is good or not.
Last time I checked, we whipped WKU, who all of these same posters said we would be lucky to win.
Last time I checked, we beat the #8 team in the nation, USCe; the same team who beat Mizzou and Clemson.
The only game I was embarrassed by seasons end that we lost was to FLA, the others were all either in the top 10 (4 of them) or between 20-30 in the rankings (GA and Vandy).
I know some of the posters are tired of hearing about the schedule, but remember:
Oregon on the road
Alabama on the road
Missouri on the road
Then, throw in Auburn and USCe at home and that's 5 teams in the Top10!
Quit worrying about Utah State and start thinking about Oklahoma in Norman.
Did you get all that? If not, just drink another one and shut up!
Butch also never said he wasn't.
You think Dobbs was 3rd string? Not that it really matters. Just curious as to your point.
The "ridiculous" here are those who excuse poor coaching and blame lack of talent for everything. That's the true "disconnect".
There also seems to be a "disconnect" between what some of us BELIEVE AND SAY and what is CONVENIENT for some of the rest of you to say we believe and say.
Jones and company underperformed the potential of the '13 roster. I am on record saying that it will take a "good" job equivalent to a 7 win season this year for them to win 6 next fall. Guess that's a ridiculous expectation though, huh?
It's really unfortunate to have to open the year in 2014 against them. They are a good football team that knocked off NIU last night and pretty much shut down Lynch. Win, and it will be no big deal to anyone outside of Knoxville - you're supposed to win your home opener against a non conference team. Lose, and there will be a chernobyl like meltdown on VN and BJ will lose much of the fan base before the season even gets started.
Thoughts?
