Trash take after trash take. We could easily wind up going 7-5 or 8-4 next year. You don’t take a team that was facing the freaking death penalty under cornbread and flip them to 10-2 without being a next level coach. We need to lock Heup in and back the brinks truck up to his house. Fans need to shut the hell up and support the team and culture or go back to where you were two years ago, not paying attention to Tennessee football. When we go 7-5 or 5-7 next year and Josh the Hoopla is sitting on a 90 million dollar contract for 10 years it will look brilliant.
Of course had we beaten SC i would think differently.
Re Fulmer and coach cut… two different eras with his two stints on the hill vs when he wasn’t here.I definitely believe a raise and extension are warranted but I am concerned about continuity of staff with Golesh leaving. While everyone wants to point out that this is Heupel’s offense; Golesh was at the least a very well liked and respected presence as well as a solid recruiter. I don’t expect the train goes off the rails; just that we don’t know what we don’t know… Sometimes, coaches move on without skipping a beat after a departure while in other instances you really come to understand how vital an assistant was to your team’s success. There just isn’t enough track record with Heupel to know for sure. I expect a modest contract bump and extension this year.

So by your statement you feel there are 10 coaches in the SEC alone worth more than heupel and by that logic that could have rebuilt TN faster????I would if I’d spent the last two years recruiting a bunch of kids to play for me. I’d probably also prefer not to start another rebuild if I didn’t have to do so.
You’re just throwing out hypotheticals, though. The market is not currently valuing Heupel at nine million a year.
With the latest addition of Hugh Freeze to the SEC, Heupel is way under paid for what he has done in 2 short years. We are no longer hoping or thinking maybe he can bring us back to top 10 football and the opportunity to compete with the elite, he has done it. I think he should be around the $7m/year mark and room to grow once he can get us in the final 4 and SEC championship(s). What does VN think is a number to keep away the "hawks" from swooping in to grab him away?

I mean if theirs no obligation to do it, I would wait until the end of next year before I hand out a huge contract. If huep shows he can figure it out next year without his oc and a different qb then hooker then he will get paid. No need to be nice, we’ve seen what our other coaches has done with a big check. What happens if we come out next season n go 7-5 and everybody is wishing we didn’t pay??With the latest addition of Hugh Freeze to the SEC, Heupel is way under paid for what he has done in 2 short years. We’re not going to drop to that level next year. The SC game was an outlier and people are putting too much weight on that game. Heupel needs 8 mil and the staff needs a raise. When we go 7-5 or 5-7 next year and Josh the Hoopla is sitting on a 90 million dollar contract for 10 years it will look brilliant.
