The reason we should hold off on coaching change

Signature Wins under CJP

1. Auburn
2. Kentucky (they were a top 15 team in 2018)
3. South Carolina (we have dominated them the past few years)
4. Indiana (essentially the same team that is now a top 10 team this year)

All would be more impressive basketball wins. Auburn is the only one even considered a football power.

The Vols absolutely cannot from a financial standpoint afford a coaching change. The UT Athletic Department will be almost $40 million dollars short due to the virus effects. We are still paying Butch Jones and at present Coach Pruitt has a buy out package of some $13 million....folks it ain't going to happen with those financial numbers. In two more years Pruitt will have the players to compete and will have the program headed in the right direction. If you were a potential recruit would you choose the Vols with all the negative comments that appear here daily?
And the AD is to blame for Pruitt's extension and buyout.

Sark has gotten the help he needed and has turned things around it seems. However,. he hasn't experienced a lot of adversity since he got the alcohol thing behind him. Were he to come to UT the pressure would be on him like no other place. I'm not sure how fragile he is, but UT may not be the place for Sark under any circumstances.

Tennessee has lost a 4star db and 5star lb over the past few days, the Vols cannot afford to lose blue chip recruits. We cannot give Pruitt anymore time, he has proven ineffective as a coach and recruits are bailing. The financial fallout of not having fans in the stands over the next couple of years due to apathy for Pruitt will far exceed buying him out now.

Support CJP like a boss at the same time that you're beating the bushes to see if a can't miss candidate is found. If you can get a can't miss, then do it. If you don't think you can, then stay put with your guy for another go around.

We just lost our highest rated recruit. We have missed in virtually every single big time recruit we went after. If you think a recruit cares more about negative comments from fans then what’s being shown on the field then you have a lot to learn.

South Carolina is almost $60MM in the hole from COVID. Muschamp's buyout was larger and they have $300MM less in revenue over the past 15 years. Didn't stop them.

They also have a unified booster community and are going thru their first big coaching firing with sizeable buyout. To compare their situation to ours is delusion. Tennessee has divided booster community and has paid out massive buyouts to 3 of the last 4 coaches over last 12 years.......

Question...if money really is an issue, can't UT get a payday loan or something? Maybe title loans on all the staff vehicles...it's time to get creative.

One of the bigger boosters built his fortune on payday lending

Here is the deal. We need to give Coach JP 2 more years to show what he can do with his recruits and to show his coaching acumen with players that actually match up with the beasts of the SEC. We will see that in the next 2 years, as we have been getting not only good recruiting classes, but players that match the style that we want to play. Any coaching change now would be senseless and pointless.

The main reason we can wait 2 years is the following:
1. In 2 years, Steve Sarkisian will be ready to be a coach at any Power 5 school of his choosing. He proved this past weekend he can coach with Saban not able to coach. Alabama's offense is humming like never before. Steve Sarkisian is the real deal

2. Hugh Freeze has already said he is not interested in the South Carolina job and for sure would not go to Vanderbilt. That means in 2 years, Hugh Freeze will still be available as a candidate.

If CJP doesn't work out the next 2 years, we should bring the Brinks truck and offer whatever either Sarkisian or Freeze ask for. Let's hope it doesn't come to that and we are giving a substantial extension to CJP.
We will not have a program left that any coach will want to come to in two years if JP stays. Faulty reasoning on your part.

Holding off is really going to sting........us Tennessee fans having to watch SC get a better coach. Watching Texas land another huge name (bust or not it will sting for us). Then watching other crap schools land names probably bigger than Pruitt at the end of the year.

Then next year we get to look forward to seeing that bald headed, stubborn, ignorant coach on the sidelines again (that was harsh probably shouldn’t say that, but I’m so tired of this). Pruitt if you see this somehow.....no real offense.....I don’t even know you, I just wish you would take you millions elsewhere.

When the estimated financial losses to the program with JP as HC exceed his buyout then he will be gone. The boosters and UT admin. will determine that calculation, not Fulmer.

I know you aren't wrong but those buyouts are a drop in the bucket compared to the revenue difference....This is driven a lot more by administrative issues than a divided booster community, COVID, and buyouts....

I get that. I’m just making the point that USC is going thru a firing that entails a big buyout for the first time in this big money contract era. Tennessee not so much. But who knows, maybe 4th time is a charm with Pruitt’s buyout to where Boosters want to finally pony up.

Sarkisian will be ready to be a Power 5 coach in 2 years? He has 6 1/2 years already. Which if you are scoring at home, is more than any coach we’ve hired since Majors.

Sark would be a smart to wait for Saban to appoint him successor. Would be a better gig than trying to resurrect this program.

For that matter, Pruitt will not improve this program in 2 years. The manner in which we are losing tell me everything. A good coach can make strides in year one. Pittman has had an undermanned squad competitive. And Mizz has already won 4 games under a first year coach.

Look I appreciate all of the Lady Vol Fans and their commentary. Please stick to women’s basketball, we don’t wear baby blue with our Orange in here.

Pruitt is a god-awful head coach. What has he shown that suggests anything other?

Agree about 2 more years and might I add we need to stay off these boards ridiculing players and coaches. It does affect recruits and gives ammunition to opposing coaches

Buy out is paid in installments. Hit this year would be around 3-4 million total including assistants. What is 8-10% more of the 40 million hit ? Compare that to revenue lost and ticket sales from apathetic fanbase over next year.

Also, JP is pretty much lame duck now. The longer we keep him, the more recruiting suffers and the worse we make it for the new guy. Remember we made this mistake not firing Butch in year 4 (or even year 3)
Nailed it

You can list on one hand the number of coaches who have not won 9 games within the first 3 years and gone on to have success... in the last 40 years- the modern, "media" era of CFB.

What is "senseless" and "pointless" is to let a coach fail to the point where the roster is in the shape it was when Jones was fired. That's where it will be with Pruitt if you just arbitrarily give him 2 more years. He needs to "shock the world" and win 9 games minimum next year. If he doesn't... then fire him before the roster deteriorates.

UT has a pattern now of dooming the next coach by letting the current coach drive roster talent into the dirt before firing them. If Dooley had been put out of his misery a year earlier then his successor (who would not have been Jones) would have shown up with a very talented O to work with and a thin but talented D. That one extra year... left Jones to "rebuild" (especially the OL... which he failed completely)
. If someone had had the courage and wisdom to fire Jones after his 3rd year when he had squandered talent and begun to decline in recruiting... someone not named Pruitt would have inherited a very good roster. Even the extra two years Fulmer got hurt the roster by the time Kiffin took over. What you are proposing may "sound" reasonable... but it virtually assures the next guy fails due to a lack of roster talent.

Sark didn't do well at USCw where they can literally sign a top 5 class without traveling more than 100 miles. One game at Bama... doesn't prove anything.

Freeze is intriguing but he's not the only good possible replacement. There will always be options if you take action at the right time. Most coaches know when a roster spells doom.
No more Year Zeros for the new coach.

In 2 years Pruitt will be lucky to scrape together a top 30 class. The guy has more than proven he is incapable of getting the job done, no reason to prolong the misery.

Yep, I think this years OLine on paper is as good as it will ever get. Waiting on miracle recruiting classes while winning 2 games is just insanity. The coaching has made on field play apathetic. The QB debacle and all has just made this insufferable.
