Here is the deal. We need to give Coach JP 2 more years to show what he can do with his recruits and to show his coaching acumen with players that actually match up with the beasts of the SEC. We will see that in the next 2 years, as we have been getting not only good recruiting classes, but players that match the style that we want to play. Any coaching change now would be senseless and pointless.

The main reason we can wait 2 years is the following:
1. In 2 years, Steve Sarkisian will be ready to be a coach at any Power 5 school of his choosing. He proved this past weekend he can coach with Saban not able to coach. Alabama's offense is humming like never before. Steve Sarkisian is the real deal

2. Hugh Freeze has already said he is not interested in the South Carolina job and for sure would not go to Vanderbilt. That means in 2 years, Hugh Freeze will still be available as a candidate.

If CJP doesn't work out the next 2 years, we should bring the Brinks truck and offer whatever either Sarkisian or Freeze ask for. Let's hope it doesn't come to that and we are giving a substantial extension to CJP.

No, UT shouldn't wait 2 years or even 2 hours to make a change, the evidence that Pruitt is in over is head is plain to see. If Freeze were offered the UT job at 12:30 he'd be on a plane to Knoxville at 12:32. No point in waiting when the obvious is right before our eyes. Even rival coaches rate Pruitt as no better than a DC and I have serious doubts he could do that without elite level talent.

If that is the approach then we can save some ticket money and watch some quality football on the tube. Go for it.

I'm one who tends to give coaches plenty of time. I stayed in with Butch longer than was warranted. And, I do believe Pruitt coaches out this year and in to the next one. But next year is critical. If the team struggles early, I believe he's gone.

Yet another coaching search sucks at this point. Who will want to come here? Past evidence shows that no big time coach will take this job. But, if Pruitt struggles yet again in to next year, he's clearly not the man for the job. And that sucks. I thought we has a good recruiter, game time coach, and player developer. He's proving me wrong.

This is sad but here's two football programs in the last decade. School 1 is historically one of the worst D-1 programs. School 2 was the school that in the prior 75 years had more wins than any other D-1 School

School 1
New coach for 2010.
School interviewed guy with famous last name but had losing record. Decided on hiring position coach instead.
Coach in over his head
Coach fired after 2 years
Program bad enough to lose by 50 to Ark State and to UT Martin
Program hired offensive minded coach who was told by School 2 that he wasn't good enough to be OC
Program had more SEC West wins than School 2
Coach left for a P5 job
School had chance to interview DC from SEC school with personality issues and no HC experience
School hired offensive mind
School has 6 bowl appearances in a row

School 2
New coach for 2010
School interviewed guy with famous last name but had losing record. School 2 hired this guy after School 1 passed.
Coach in over his head
Coach fired after 3 years
School hires former band player
School goes 0-8 and loses 8 games for first time in history
School had chance to interview DC from SEC school with personality issues and no HC experience. School hires him.
School gets curbstomped by GSU and UK at home

School 1 is Memphis, School 2 is UT.

So we should sacrifice two more years to the dumpster fire, then go chasing after a coach that may not be there - or even accept the job?

The Vols absolutely cannot from a financial standpoint afford a coaching change. The UT Athletic Department will be almost $40 million dollars short due to the virus effects. We are still paying Butch Jones and at present Coach Pruitt has a buy out package of some $13 million....folks it ain't going to happen with those financial numbers. In two more years Pruitt will have the players to compete and will have the program headed in the right direction. If you were a potential recruit would you choose the Vols with all the negative comments that appear here daily?

We have boosters who can cut a check for that amount without even making a dent in their liquid assets.

In two more years of Pruitt the school will run more than a $40 million deficit. They can’t afford to keep him either.

My high school coach could have stood on the sidelines and called the Bama plays against Auburn and looked like a genius. Not saying Sark is bad, but saying him taking the place of Saban in winning the iron bowl may not be a strong statement standing on it's own.

Hey did you see that gal kick for Vandy? Wasn't that a hoot? (My A-D-D kicked in)
