The reason we should hold off on coaching change

If my understanding is correct, Fulmer gave him an extension with no offset for what he makes at a new job. We owe him the full amount regardless.

Fulmer got jobbed.

Not exactly.

His buyout if fired is capped at 60% of what he is owed. Essentially that's its own mitigation clause and means we would pay less to fire Pruitt than we did firing someone like Jones, who gamed the mitigation clause.

Butch had a mitigation clause and he will get much more than 60% of his buyout.
Also real good businessin'.

Let's not hold up at the Dooley/ Butch years as the proper way to run an Athletic Department. Maybe we should just name Jimmy Sexton the AD and cutout the middle man. He's going to give us ten the hard-way no matter what.

Here is the deal. We need to give Coach JP 2 more years to show what he can do with his recruits and to show his coaching acumen with players that actually match up with the beasts of the SEC.

The main reason we can wait 2 years is the following:
1. In 2 years, Steve Sarkisian will be ready to be a coach at any Power 5 school of his choosing.
2. Hugh Freeze has already said he is not interested in the South Carolina job and for sure would not go to Vanderbilt.
.

as others have indicated, there are several poor assumptions.
1- Sarks is ready to coach NOW. what makes you think he will wait two years for the TN Job?
2 - Freeze seems interested in jumping back into Power 5 NOW - again, what makes you think he'll wait around for a TN offer?
Some other school will and these coaches - and others. How many times has TN seen this movie? Other schools move and get what they want, TN fiddles around and screws it up.
3 - How LONG do you honestly think a coach needs to win? To say that Pruitt needs 2 more years...because...he needs to coach up his own recruits...is just nonsense for several reasons. First, he hasn't demonstrated he can't coach the talent that is at TN currently. We have players not developing, and we have very good players not playing up to their abilities. Why is that? Second, he's showing his weakness in recruiting now - players are buying what he's selling.

None of these points hold any water. Pruitt seems to be in over his head.

My point is merely an example of a mitigation clause failing to protect UT. So, a lack of a mitigation clause isn't necessarily bad business (and unless specifically precluded is also implied by Tennessee contract law) when the reduction clause reduces his payout far more than a mitigation clause likely would.

I'm fact, I think a capped pay reduction upon termination is probably a superior technique to any mitigation clause when the commodity is not a big name likely to meet or exceed the pay promised in the original contract.

Note: in any action in Tennessee to enforce the contract for breach, the party looking to enforce the contract has a duty, regardless if it's terms are expressed within the instrument (unless precluded by contract,) to mitigate their damages.

Isn't it funny? We were told by so many of the Pruitt supporters that we'd see a big improvement year 2, and be competing for the East by year 3.

Year 2 we lost to Ga St and BYU, suffered major losses to all of the big-3, then finished the year on the Fool's Gold streak. Now look at us. We are literally competing for the BOTTOM of the East.

All would be more impressive basketball wins. Auburn is the only one even considered a football power.
Lol “Pruitt can’t even beat Kentucky”.

Pruitt beats a top 15 Kentucky team by 3 TDs
“It’s just UK who cares?”
