The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

The signs are there, his players are not improving when measured against talented teams, he sits them rather than trying to coach them through their mistakes, if the team is below 500 in the conference at the end of January, the collapse is coming, Barnes touch has faded and the fire to win has been turn two notches lower.

Rick has always had the unfortunate situation of a subset of our fanbase never moving past Bruce Pearl. Because of that, his success has been judged unfairly.
The attachment folks have to a guy who was here one year longer than Butch Jones was is silly to me. It isn’t like he won a natty like Vitello.

Hope you’re all excited for the Justin Gainey era lol
That would go over about like the Rodney Terry era at TX. I hope Dr. Danny has his sights set much higher. No disrespect to Gainey. With the state of TN athletics, he will need to hit a home run or he risks losing the fans.

There is no “home run” who will take the job.

We aren’t stealing a big time successful coach from a major program. But look what Michigan did with the hiring of Dusty May. Absolute home run. DW will need to find that type of guy. Hard to do but not impossible. We saw it here with Pearl.

I’m not sure if he’ll take it, but I’ve always said that whenever Rick retires my first call is to T.J. Otzelberger at Iowa State and make him say no. His annual salary right now is $4 million, which is $2 million less than Rick Barnes makes here.

Maybe Otz likes coaching at a smaller school with less pressure to win, but you could give him the Barnes contract and see if he says no.

He would definitely say no lol

Danny isn’t going to make anyone say “no” to a job, he will do what he’s done with all his hires: bargain bin shopping

But I agree with this completely, great replacement

Maybe we can turn it around. Barnes needs a national championship before he retires. He deserves it with his dedication and has had some amazing teams.

Back to back Elite 8s. I am going to cry the day Barnes retires. A great coach. He will be hard to replace. Kentucky played out of their minds today. Probably will be their best game of the year. Give them credit. Tennessee will be back.
Why does it seem like since Pope has taken over, every time we play them they seem to play out of their minds?

Did Rick Barnes forget how to coach in 6 months? Looks like a lack of talented players to me. Our front line can't put it in the basket from 1 foot away and refuse to dunk, our front line players can't handle ball pressure and make weak passes. Too many mistakes to coach around. Whoever put this team together is at fault. Looks good on paper.
