The Official Rick Barnes discussion thread

This team is mostly freshman just out of high school. I see improvement. I'm not giving up although our schedule is going to be really tough.

There's one freshman, being paid a king's ransom, in the starting five. Freshmen accounted for under 40% of the minutes played this afternoon. I'm not sure youth is the problem, especially when we are touting one as an all-timer top flight NBA draft pick, so much as the bad crop of upper classmen just looking for their only American paycheck.

This team may retire barnes. He looks miserable and disconnected
Maybe it’ s having the same effect on Barnes that it is on the fans. Take away wins and losses…this team is painful to watch. They’ll tease you into thinking they have a high upside only to break your heart with scoring laspses, turnovers, sloppy play.

Most overrated coach of all time

Not a great season, but our program does not have much history in basketball and he brought us two Elite 8s, an SEC Tournament crown, and multiple SEC regular season championships. He’s not overrated at all. If anything, he’s underrated given the history of our program.

How is it we never have more than one shooter, more than one ball handler, no inside threat

It’s been the same problems for 5 + years now
Because that’s Rick Barnes way of assembling his teams. When someone shows you who they are, you better believe them.

The football team and this basketball team have been painful to watch. There’s losing and then there’s “pull your hair out” self destruction.

Losing has that impact on a coach. Plus, his players aren’t listening. Or, they listen but aren’t good enough to: play turnover - free basketball, make shots, defend, etc.

He takes pride in making players better.
Barnes has typically had good leaders that inspire their teammates and hold them accountable. I honestly don’t think that exists on this team. I thought maybe that was Estrella at the beginning of the season, but he‘s become a wilting flower lately.

So two consecutive elite 8 appearances, including last season. And all of a sudden, the game has passed him by. He’s done more with less talent than most coaches.

Just a bad yr. It happens.
Happens quick. From one year to the next
