The Jarrett Guarantano hate

Its always been my belief when your building a team back from the sewer you need athletic QB and not pro style.
We've tried this for almost a decade. It hasn't helped. It's a gimmick/bandaid/smoke and mirrors. All it does is provide a crutch to mask the deficiencies instead of exploiting the problems and allow them to be fixed.

I have never understood why people call a 20 year old a kid. Anyway, JG is terrible. At the snap of the ball he looks to 1 receiver and never looks to anyone else. But the failure of that team/program isn't all on him. Coaching sucks, most of the players suck

It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid. He may legally and technically be a man but still, he is just a kid. Not only that, but he is doing something productive such as going to college to get an education and, though I don't know anything about his or his parents financial abilities, football is providing an avenue for him to do so. Just how many of you negative posters actually have an investment into the University such as a degree, donor, booster or played football for the University? Or, are you just a fan? Second, I remember reading on this forum several years ago how many of you thought he was going to be the next biggest thing since Peyton. Third, and to me most importantly, how many of you haters have or could be an SEC starting QB? Even with as bad of a team as we currently have, how many of you posters that continuously dog him out could even make the team as a walk on much less supplant him as the starting QB?

Granted, there may be more or other options at QB but most of the posters on here are personally attacking a kid. Now, I know I'm going to get flamed for this but what is wrong with ya'll?

I for one will never personally attack a kid but he has cost us both losses with his lack of seeing the field . Sure others make mistakes but if he was seeing field properly games would not go down to wire because He not seeing wide open receivers throughout games. He easily worse qb in sec. No hate honestly just facts and I hope people don't hate the kid....

If JG is so ****** how the hell could Pruitt not find someone better so far then? He’s been on the job for 21 months. If JG is that bad, and nobody is better than him, than blame Pruitt for not being able to get someone better.
You are seriously going to blame the person who took over the WORST Tennessee team in history because he hasn't fixed everything in 21 months? You are aware within that 21 months he has one of the best high school QB's in the country committed to come here and play next season? Yeah, that is Pruitt that did that not JG. Pruitt is dealing with a hand he was dealt. Recruiting kids to come to what equates to a dumpster fire is not that easy and he is getting the players we need to rebuild. I'm not sure if you noticed our defense last night but the names you kept hearing over and over were Henry T and Crouch. Those are Pruitt players. Gray on offense? Another Pruitt player. That improved offensive live> Pruitt players. It doesn't matter if Pruitt make 4 dollars a year or 400 million a year, the problem is JG and it has been the problem for going on 3 years now. Now if they don't make a change at QB to at least try and fix the QB problem I will start blaming the coaches.

Sorry, I've defended him for too long. The 8 quarters + OT I've watched so far, he has shown no improvement. The decision making ability is not there. The feel of the pressure is not there. The leadership is not there.

I am not sure if Shrout or Maurer are better. Sometimes, practice is just not a good enough barometer at the QB position. Sometimes, the adrenaline of a real pass rush and a real game atmosphere is what it takes to trigger a QB to play a certain way.

At this point, though, it cannot hurt to try.

JG is not an SEC QB. He doesn't read defenses and he has limited anticipation and accuracy. He's also not play maker or a decent runner/scrambler. He would be serviceable on a team with a great run game and dominating defense but unfortunately that is now what we have at UT right now. He may be the best we have right now but we need to give the younger guys a chance to see if they are natural play makers. With JG at the helm our offense is going to continue to not show up at the big moments when we need them the most.

I doubt anyone on here genuinely hates JG. They just don’t think he is a good football player. I have been a staunch JG supporter. But after these past 2 games, it’s crystal clear that he is not a good QB. Our offense is stuck in neutral because of JG. Chaney looks bad because of JG.

And stop with the he is a kid. He is an adult male.

Since this is the official JG sucks at football thread... I'll leave this here:

I have a theory that the reason JG has so many supporters is that they don't go to the games and instead watch on TV.

When JG finally throws the ball, it is a pretty pass, and he is extremely accurate. The ball goes where he wants it, and gets there when he wants it to from the time he decides to throw to release.

With that out of the way. He's one of the worst QBs I've ever seen here at TN when it comes to field vision and going through his progressions. And that's something you can only see if you watch the play develop Downfield.

The line gave him more time tonight than they ever have in his career, and he responded with one of the worst games I've ever seen. I watched Jennings a lot. He was open.... Maybe 85% of the time out of his final cut.

Someone was open almost every play. And when I say open, I don't mean NFL open. I mean WIDE open. No one within 8 feet. And yet he still checked the ball down to double coverage at least 8 times. When he did hit the receiver, he was late with his decision. Jennings was all alone in the end zone. Didn't see him until the safety had time to recover.

Gotta bench him. The offense will never be better than bad with JG.
Going back and watching it is really painful. WRs did their job, QB let the team down.

I don’t hate Garantano, he seems to have developed the same sort of shellshocked attitude a lot of qbs that get hit a LOT develop. And frankly, even without that, he just hasn’t panned out. This is a former elite 11 star, and he did pretty good last year, it’s just a shame to see someone like that regress.

The is one of the dumbest things I have ever read!
No it isn't. Just because our wussified society has lowered expectations doesn't mean that we shouldn't expect an 18 year old to be a man. A couple of generations ago 15 year olds were lying about their age because they wanted to do their part to defend the country.

A lot of truth here.

Sticking with JG and not being prepared for GAST are problematic.

I am glad to see the team play with more energy against BYU though........

I seldom get to see a game in person so I really appreciate your perspective.

But I have been able to see what you're talking about watching on TV. The only reason a person can't see it... is they don't want to or literally don't know enough about the game to understand what they're seeing.

1) he is not a kid, stop saying that. It's not like he is a freshman, the "kid" is a college graduate, A red shirt Jr. athletically.
2) what "personal" attacks?
3) he is not good at playing QB, neither am I, but that doesn't make him better.
4) I have defended him and been patient, but he is in his third year starting. He has regressed and demonstrates a lack of a killer instinct.

Yes he had bad throws that he should make. But he wasn't on the field with 10 seconds to go with no timeouts from BYU's 12 yard line. Tano was watching the 70yard pass play to set up tie field goal.
That pass wouldn’t have mattered if he did his job even a small percentage of the pass plays. He cannot see the field. I thought it was protection, thought it was WRs. Naw the kid just sucks at seeing the field and making a decision. He should buy Jennings a beer bc he turned two INTs into TDS.

I haven't seen anyone personally attack him, he simply is not the answer at qb for us. I was pulling for him, I pull for all Vol players. He just isn't our answer at QB, he has had plenty of time. GBO!
Yea I had his back last year with our weak OL. Can't carry his water this year. It is what it is. Time for a change.

As far as Pruitt, he probably would’ve been fine dropping this game if not for Georgia State. We just quite frankly don’t have much to work with. We have two great RBs but a line that’s terrible at run blocking right now. Probably a pro WR in Jennings and nice WR in Calloway but a QB that can’t throw down the field.

No hate from me. I wanted to see what he could do with better protection, a better run game and another year more experience.

He has a pretty good arm. Outside that hes not a good QB in several areas. And theres no excuse for it now.

Our chances of winning with JG are looking to be slim, but, our chances of winning without him are also quite slim

By SEC standards our RB’s are nowhere close to Great, average at best

I don't hate him. Myself, and many others, just don't think he's the QB that needs to be leading this team. Anyone with a little bit of Football knowledge can tell he can't handle any pressure. That's just an honest critique of the young man. Sorry if that hurts some people's sensitive feelings
