The Jarrett Guarantano hate

I am not a JG apologist. He's playing terrible. But he is not the sole reason we play the way we do. Even with another QB, with all of our other problems we would still get blown out by Georgia, Alabama and probably Florida. The issues with this team go far deeper than just the QB play.

If you can't see that, you must be new to football.

You realize we win that game if he leads Jennings instead of underthrowing him on the vertical route right?

You realize we win that game if he doesn’t throw behind and late to Jennings in the endzone right?

Personal attacks, bad. Agree. It’s not like the kid is trying to lose so to hate him the way he’s hated is likely unfair.

At the same time, we won’t be able to win squat with a QB that takes 2 seconds to see an open receiver. Time to wish him well with the clipboard and try another option.

IMO, most of the 'attacks' I've seen on here have been attacking the play of the QB, not the player. JG is a tough kid, should be commended for taking the lumps, applauded for trying hard, and I hope he has a successful and productive life, but benched at QB ......

It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid. He may legally and technically be a man but still, he is just a kid. Not only that, but he is doing something productive such as going to college to get an education and, though I don't know anything about his or his parents financial abilities, football is providing an avenue for him to do so. Just how many of you negative posters actually have an investment into the University such as a degree, donor, booster or played football for the University? Or, are you just a fan? Second, I remember reading on this forum several years ago how many of you thought he was going to be the next biggest thing since Peyton. Third, and to me most importantly, how many of you haters have or could be an SEC starting QB? Even with as bad of a team as we currently have, how many of you posters that continuously dog him out could even make the team as a walk on much less supplant him as the starting QB?

Granted, there may be more or other options at QB but most of the posters on here are personally attacking a kid. Now, I know I'm going to get flamed for this but what is wrong with ya'll?
JG is a nice kid but not a SEC quality QB.

This is what you do with a terrible player. Try to appeal to the emotional side of “he’s just a kid.” This is football. You play the best player that will get you the win. He shouldn’t be playing at all.

You can separate the person from the football player. As a football player, he deserves all the blame and criticism he gets

Well then you must not have watched the game last night, because if he was even a 4 on a scale of 10 for SEC QB's, we blow BYU out of the water. EVEN the announcers kept harping on it..

This isn't about being a good kid or not this is about winning football games as the quarterback for the University of Tennessee. Bottom line, I'm sure JG is a good person and the guy is a gamer but he just isn't a good quarterback. People shouldn't attack his character, that's childish but he doesn't need to be starting at QB if we plan to win football games.

The guy got plenty of protection in the pocket last night.
That was his time to showcase that he has progressed, but by and large, he did not.
1st Qtr was a tease.
And think about it, that 1st touchdown should have been an interception. We got lucky Jennings grabbed it for the score.

Shouldn't have even had a chance to try for that score. That replay on the play before was a gift.

I don't know why we have to have so many JG threads, wish the admins would merge them together or maybe we simply not start another JG thread and leave a comment there. I only read the first post, not sure of what has been said...but here's my take.

It's time, it's time for the QB position to be wide backside open. With that said, there's a reason the others are not being used. Folks, you can't just assume because someone is more accurate or may have other qualities that JG doesn't have, that they are better than JG., right now. The key words being "right now." I'm not a coach, but many of you respond out of anger without considering the other factors. There is a playbook, there are schemes that have to be learned. If they are lost, well that won't fair well for them or anyone else for that matter.

If I were coach....I would utilize any QB other than JG for the upcoming UTC game. If it's a loss, so be it. But my feeling is they aren't ready, not due to lack of talent, lack of knowledge. I had hoped for great things for JG, but "that ain't happen'n!"

My thought on the game is very simple, the "grown young adults" played with heart and goodness, played hard. Our QB hindered us from winning the game. While others certainly did make mistakes, the QB is NO doubt the reason why we lost. While I hear he's a 'practice baler' and stands out, it game time that matters. JMO....I may have fumbled through this, I despise the G17 parking garage, 1st year there and obviously haven't found a way to get around the traffic, didn't get home till 2am, and have a little puppy I'm potty training. She had me back up at 5 a.m

Yes, if coaching isn’t the issue, and all 3 suck, then they’ve failed to find a halfway decent QB 21 months into the job. That’s not good.

And you’re not understanding the point. In 2008, people said Crompton sucked. Stephens might fix it. He didn’t. The coaching staff was the problem. Crompton got good coaching in 2009 (you’re forgetting Lane Kiffin played a huge part in that btw lol) and become decent to solid. That’s my point. Crompton wasn’t the main issue in 2008 it was the coaching.

Yes I was talking about it being Butch Jones’ fault he didn’t recruit good QB’s.

And to the “false premise”...you know the answer to my scenario, you just don’t want to admit it. Mauer or Shrout won’t start magically winning games and save Pruitt.
I honestly can’t believe you are a staff member of this site. You points are wrong on so many levels.

Can the puppy play QB?

We got to get someone in at QB we have nothing right now !!!!!!

Saban benched Hurts because he made a command decision on what was best for the team. Happens. No hate involved.

I’m at the point that we should treat ever game as a practice game. Play the young pups. Will it hurt JG,s feelings to have another QB out there? I’m certain it will. Basing this on his pouting at the GT game when he didn’t start. It won’t be pleasant for him. My guess is he won’t stick around if he’s not the starter.

Bottom line- he’s never been great and he’s getting worse. It’s obvious to most. Maybe the backup is worse, but there is a chance he might be better. Change needs to come.

I'm not seeing a lot of personal attacks against JG, and I agree that those would not be cool. Saying we should bench him for another QB is not out of line.

This is the lowest point in UT history and you are dumfounded by passionate fans 'hating on' a player who shows little fire or want-to-win out there. Not only does he sap energy from the team, but he severely limits our passing game. Time to wake up from your nap, XknoxvolsX. JG is a major part of the problem - him getting a free education while steering us to the worst season in program history - AGAIN - well that doesn't mean we have to give him the soft paw treatment. Sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable, but we are ALL sick of him.

Since this is the official JG sucks at football thread... I'll leave this here:

I have a theory that the reason JG has so many supporters is that they don't go to the games and instead watch on TV.

When JG finally throws the ball, it is a pretty pass, and he is extremely accurate. The ball goes where he wants it, and gets there when he wants it to from the time he decides to throw to release.

With that out of the way. He's one of the worst QBs I've ever seen here at TN when it comes to field vision and going through his progressions. And that's something you can only see if you watch the play develop Downfield.

The line gave him more time tonight than they ever have in his career, and he responded with one of the worst games I've ever seen. I watched Jennings a lot. He was open.... Maybe 85% of the time out of his final cut.

Someone was open almost every play. And when I say open, I don't mean NFL open. I mean WIDE open. No one within 8 feet. And yet he still checked the ball down to double coverage at least 8 times. When he did hit the receiver, he was late with his decision. Jennings was all alone in the end zone. Didn't see him until the safety had time to recover.

Gotta bench him. The offense will never be better than bad with JG.

Absolutely on point. Nice kid. Five star heart and all that. Doesn’t have the On field vision and decision making skills requires at this level. I sincerely appreciate his contributions, but we have to move on. The back ups may not be ready for the spotlight, but JG won’t ever get it done. We might as well take our knocks and get the young guns some game experience in preparation for next year. Who knows, maybe by November they will be up to speed.

Yes he had bad throws that he should make. But he wasn't on the field with 10 seconds to go with no timeouts from BYU's 12 yard line. Tano was watching the 70yard pass play to set up tie field goal.
