The Jarrett Guarantano hate

If that's true... how can you cast judgment on the staff at this point? I guess you could say that they've failed to recruit a QB. But your point seems to be that they've somehow failed to coach the positions right.

Nope. He specifically got better being coached by the guy who has not been able to do the same with JG... though Crompton was a much more difficult task. Emotionally that guy was wasted by the time Chaney got him.

You do remember that the current staff had nothing to do with recruiting either one, right?

False premise leading to a fallacy of limited alternatives. Maybe neither of those guys is the answer... and maybe Pruitt with a good QB would be "the guy". Or...one of them could save "us" and cover the fact that Pruitt "ain't the guy" at least for a while.

Yes, if coaching isn’t the issue, and all 3 suck, then they’ve failed to find a halfway decent QB 21 months into the job. That’s not good.

And you’re not understanding the point. In 2008, people said Crompton sucked. Stephens might fix it. He didn’t. The coaching staff was the problem. Crompton got good coaching in 2009 (you’re forgetting Lane Kiffin played a huge part in that btw lol) and become decent to solid. That’s my point. Crompton wasn’t the main issue in 2008 it was the coaching.

Yes I was talking about it being Butch Jones’ fault he didn’t recruit good QB’s.

And to the “false premise”...you know the answer to my scenario, you just don’t want to admit it. Mauer or Shrout won’t start magically winning games and save Pruitt.

Once you turn 18 and can be drafted and carry a machine gun for the US ARMY you not a kid.
This is a really stupid post. The really funny thing is that at 18 you can’t buy alcohol or a hand gun. Gtfo with that. Remind me again when the last time a United States citizen was drafted anyways.

We know why Simms started over Bray. They didn’t want him to face the meat grinder of the season with four new OL starting. That was obvious from day one.

And Worley was better than Dobbs in 2013. And Dobbs didn’t start in 2014 because they wanted to redshirt him and get an extra year out of him. Which I said.
You should be exempt from all qb discussions if you think Worley was ever better than Dobbs

I think being a fan and loving a program since before he was swimming around in his dads balls gives me a little bit of an investment.

He’s tough. I’ve always thought he was an ok QB who got beat to death but could be better with time. I was wrong. He was sketchy last week and just plain stunk this week. We’ve got a lot of work to do and I think it’s time to at least start giving his backup a look.

We had 16 starters returning from last year's team and some of you are going to defend Pruitt. Maybe a close win over UTC or a loss to UAB will wake you guys up.

Simply put, you can have an acceptable team with an SEC caliber QB and a non-SEC team, or a non-SEC QB and an SEC caliber team. But, well, you figure it out.

I am not a JG apologist. He's playing terrible. But he is not the sole reason we play the way we do. Even with another QB, with all of our other problems we would still get blown out by Georgia, Alabama and probably Florida. The issues with this team go far deeper than just the QB play.

If you can't see that, you must be new to football.

Ok keep telling us how the offensive line is the reason the offense can't score points. We ran the football all night.

Hopefully JG enters the transfer portal. That would be the best thing for everyone, the team , JG, and especially his family. As John Ward once said " it's time"

Most of the other position players have been
Pulled from the game, why should JG be any different? Other teams don't seem to mind replacing QB's, both Clemson and Bama come to mind.

You want to be "in a game" with two opponents who are not good football programs themselves? Georgia Freaking Sunbelt State and BYU, whose own coach is on the hot seat because they are so badly coached? We should have boat raced those two teams, playing the third string in the 3rd quarter, if we were a SEC caliber team.

When will you understand that the QB play is not the only reason we are losing to marginal teams like this?

How do we stack up against other football programs in our own conference? Go ahead, position by position. Are we competitive in many? Hell no. Is it because of the QB? Hell no.

Our football program has major issues that go far beyond the play at QB. If you think there is a magic bullet, such as change the QB, that will fix our problems, then you are in for a world of continued disappointment. When that doesn't work, who are you going to blame next? The new QB?

It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid. He may legally and technically be a man but still, he is just a kid. Not only that, but he is doing something productive such as going to college to get an education and, though I don't know anything about his or his parents financial abilities, football is providing an avenue for him to do so. Just how many of you negative posters actually have an investment into the University such as a degree, donor, booster or played football for the University? Or, are you just a fan? Second, I remember reading on this forum several years ago how many of you thought he was going to be the next biggest thing since Peyton. Third, and to me most importantly, how many of you haters have or could be an SEC starting QB? Even with as bad of a team as we currently have, how many of you posters that continuously dog him out could even make the team as a walk on much less supplant him as the starting QB?

Granted, there may be more or other options at QB but most of the posters on here are personally attacking a kid. Now, I know I'm going to get flamed for this but what is wrong with ya'll?
Full disclosure before I explain everything wrong with your post. I am a APSU grad and the wife is a University of Nebraska grad, however, both being from East TN, myself from Knoxville and the wife from the Bristol area, we are die-hard UT Fans. To imply that one must have a degree or be a donor or booster to be supportive of UT is wrong and misplaced and honestly downright ignorant thing to say. Not sure if you know this, NCAA football is a business and like all sports business models, it relies on the fans. Do you honestly think that only grads, boosters, and donors attend games, buy trademark apparel, travel to away games or just turn on the television to watch UT play? When any fan does either of the mentions they are financially supporting the University. Without the avg fan, UT would sink, not sure if you grew up in East TN but it is a culture there and a way of life, to ostracize those individuals would be ignorant. It is foolish to think only the money from those groups benefit UT. Your slight does nothing but divides the fan base and shows your pompous character. With said, your take on JG being a kid is wrong as well. The dude is a RS Junior, that makes him at least 21 years old. To assume that someone is still a kid at 21 is a joke. I do not support anyone personally attacking any individual but to criticize his gameplay and decision if fair game. Just a little perspective, there are and have been 17 and 18-year-old kids sent off to war who have faced greater adversity than a social media post. How long should we coddle people from the harsh realities of the real world? If someone does not like what they see on social media they have options, choose not to view social media or improve themselves or ignore it completely. Lastly, your last rhetorical question about being an SEC QB, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? When you have Ryan Leaf, Greg McElroy and other people having played the positions pointing out in one game the same mistakes the fan base sees on a weekly basis it speaks for itself. Just because a person hasn't played the position doesn't mean they don't understand the game or the facets of it; if that were the case then half the position and head coaches in football shouldn't be coaching. Maybe the fan base who you imply have no skin in the game should take our money elsewhere and start pulling for teams like Memphis?

Disappointment, not hate. Always thought (hoped?) he was close to putting it all together but I don't think it happens for him.

I haven't seen anyone personally attack him, he simply is not the answer at qb for us. I was pulling for him, I pull for all Vol players. He just isn't our answer at QB, he has had plenty of time. GBO!
I just responded to a post where JMS called JG a moron. Then again I can’t say I’m surprised given the poster.
