The only thing we had any success with was the stretch. We were using the o line to stretch iyt the defense and the running backs were picking a hole.

When it came to match ups and we had to physically block open a hole we were ineffective. The defensive coordinator for BYU either failed to make the adjustments or did not have personnel capable of making the adjustments. SEC defenses aren't going to have that problem. We don't see yo that success in SEC play. The offensive line was improved over last week but there are serious issues with them still.

Here is a question for CP. What QB are you going to put in when JG get's hurt? Nobody? I guarantee you that he will not make it when we play SEC football.

I understand coaches wanting to give a starter the chance to redeem themselves and maintain continuity , but we are hurting him more by keeping him out there than benching him. He needs "retraining" . There's no way the other 2 options are less capable to win right now.

Where are you coming up with the 'hate'? It's just common sense that we need to give someone else a chance at QB. Guarantano is not the guy and never will be. Hell, flip a coin and go with Shrout or Maurer. Pretty simple.

It is apparently a "thing" now to personalize every disagreement or criticism. You don't disagree with someone's lifestyle, habits, or beliefs... you must "hate" them if you don't affirm them. You don't just objectively criticize a QB... You "hate" them.


This is a big reason we can no longer have civil discussions and disagreement.

IMHO, the fate of his career as UT's HC rides on making a wise and bold decision to change QB's. If one of your Fr QB's are making mistakes... if you have to coach around a weakness they have until they improve... that's understandable. But if a guy in his 4th year still can't make reads and decisions accurately and quickly then a coach's job is to see it and make the change.


What we've "heard" about the back ups?

I'm not sure what you're talking about but I would question if either of them has reached their ceiling or not. Given an opportunity, could one develop given some playing time? One of JG's biggest issues is that he doesn't "anticipate" throws well. After the first two games, I'm not even sure he processes fast enough to get to that point... but anyway even last year Pruitt said that Shrout may have been "anticipating throws" better than JG or Chryst. Maurer is definitely raw but he showed some really good instincts in the O&W game and has talent you can build on.

If JG is "the guy"... there's not a sure win left on UT's schedule including next week. He just limits the O too much.

I agree with you totally. Actualy we have a pretty good team if we had a better qb. And I think we have 2 qb not playing that are better. Even though I have not seen them play a real game, they both looked better in the Orange and White game. Yes they will make mistakes, but so is JG, but we would score much more points; they both can throw for td's. At least give them a chance. I don't see but one win and thats a mabe coming up this weekend. After that with JG I don't see us beating anyone.

I know we can't play with Ga, Ala. but we can compete with any of the others in East division with a better qb. And notice I say compete, not get blown out of the games. I do think with a change at qb we could beat Ky, Vandy, SC. and Mo. and a tossup with Fla. With JG I don't see but one win.

I don't hate the kid. I just have seen enough to want to try someone else out .

I am not sure if Shrout or Maurer are better. Sometimes, practice is just not a good enough barometer at the QB position. Sometimes, the adrenaline of a real pass rush and a real game atmosphere is what it takes to trigger a QB to play a certain way.

I agree, and I am sure jg is a very good practice player when he doesn't have to be concerned with getting hit. But in the speed of a real game he just doesn't have it. Pruitt without calling names has actually said that.

Where I come from, you turn 18, you are a man, If there is anything that is hurting our program, it is referring to them as kids.

Outside of that weak azz thought, I agree with you.

I agree that some fans take criticism of players to ridiculous levels. Never should criticism of a player go to a personal level. With that being said, criticism comes with the territory when it comes to playing QB, especially for a guy struggling as bad as JG is. Just the nature of the position.

I do not know if it is poor coaching, lack of the ability, or just stage-fright from previous years' punishment, but Guarantano still plays like you do in high school. You give him lots of space to throw into, where you can sit back and wait a bit for things to develop, and he can make some plays. You give him a short field, where he has to make quick decisions and tight throws, and he tightens up like a hooker in church. Guarantano can be a good QB if he is given plenty of time, and the WRs (or at least the one, maybe two, he considers options for that play) plenty of space to run into. The sporadic nature of that actually happening seems to account for the inconsistency we see in his play.

Most are personally attacking? You are out of your mind. Name one poster who has personally attacked JG, just one. No one "hates" JG in the sense the word is meant to convey. Your tainted definition of the word is rather pathetic and indicates a strong flavor of victimism. Are you a victim? Do people hate you? Do people tell you when you are doing something wrong and hate you? Is any criticism of the job you do hate? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you need to grow a pair and grow up.
