The only thing we had any success with was the stretch. We were using the o line to stretch iyt the defense and the running backs were picking a hole.We have good receivers and the RBs seem to be able to find holes so the OL okay.
It might be the QB
Not a single good point was made in this post. No one is hating him as a person, everyone is just pointing out that he sucks. He was given plenty of time to prove himself, and he hasn't. So when the fans start calling for a new starter, you can't blame them. JG will never get us what we want. Might as well look toward the future and break in a young QB.
Where are you coming up with the 'hate'? It's just common sense that we need to give someone else a chance at QB. Guarantano is not the guy and never will be. Hell, flip a coin and go with Shrout or Maurer. Pretty simple. It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid. He may legally and technically be a man but still, he is just a kid. Not only that, but he is doing something productive such as going to college to get an education and, though I don't know anything about his or his parents financial abilities, football is providing an avenue for him to do so. Just how many of you negative posters actually have an investment into the University such as a degree, donor, booster or played football for the University? Or, are you just a fan? Second, I remember reading on this forum several years ago how many of you thought he was going to be the next biggest thing since Peyton. Third, and to me most importantly, how many of you haters have or could be an SEC starting QB? Even with as bad of a team as we currently have, how many of you posters that continuously dog him out could even make the team as a walk on much less supplant him as the starting QB?
Granted, there may be more or other options at QB but most of the posters on here are personally attacking a kid. Now, I know I'm going to get flamed for this but what is wrong with ya'll?
It is apparently a "thing" now to personalize every disagreement or criticism. You don't disagree with someone's lifestyle, habits, or beliefs... you must "hate" them if you don't affirm them. You don't just objectively criticize a QB... You "hate" them.So you start a thread so no one will chime in? You didn't give one example of anyone actually hating JG. I've seen people criticize his play but where are the examples of people hating him as a person?
Well said. Simply telling the truth is now unacceptable. It is apparently a "thing" now to personalize every disagreement or criticism. This is a big reason we can no longer have civil discussions and disagreement.
sounds like another guy defending jg and not what is seen on film and in live action..i can offer a bowl of corn flake if that helpsI'm not absolving him of blame but I'm sure he hoped that surrounding JG with Chaney, Weinke, and Tee would make a big difference. You can see the physical talent. It must be frustrating for a coach when that much talent just can't translate to the field.
IMHO, the fate of his career as UT's HC rides on making a wise and bold decision to change QB's. If one of your Fr QB's are making mistakes... if you have to coach around a weakness they have until they improve... that's understandable. But if a guy in his 4th year still can't make reads and decisions accurately and quickly then a coach's job is to see it and make the change.
What we've "heard" about the back ups?
I'm not sure what you're talking about but I would question if either of them has reached their ceiling or not. Given an opportunity, could one develop given some playing time? One of JG's biggest issues is that he doesn't "anticipate" throws well. After the first two games, I'm not even sure he processes fast enough to get to that point... but anyway even last year Pruitt said that Shrout may have been "anticipating throws" better than JG or Chryst. Maurer is definitely raw but he showed some really good instincts in the O&W game and has talent you can build on.
If JG is "the guy"... there's not a sure win left on UT's schedule including next week. He just limits the O too much.

I want to see if he has the courage to make the right personnel moves to save himself. I am not ready to blame him completely for the mess he inherited.
I wouldn't have said this previously but if he doesn't make a change at QB... I'm not sure he sees a year 3.
Really?
You think we become relevant in the SEC with just a QB change?
Sorry, I've defended him for too long. The 8 quarters + OT I've watched so far, he has shown no improvement. The decision making ability is not there. The feel of the pressure is not there. The leadership is not there.
I am not sure if Shrout or Maurer are better. Sometimes, practice is just not a good enough barometer at the QB position. Sometimes, the adrenaline of a real pass rush and a real game atmosphere is what it takes to trigger a QB to play a certain way.
At this point, though, it cannot hurt to try.

I do not know if it is poor coaching, lack of the ability, or just stage-fright from previous years' punishment, but Guarantano still plays like you do in high school. You give him lots of space to throw into, where you can sit back and wait a bit for things to develop, and he can make some plays. You give him a short field, where he has to make quick decisions and tight throws, and he tightens up like a hooker in church. Guarantano can be a good QB if he is given plenty of time, and the WRs (or at least the one, maybe two, he considers options for that play) plenty of space to run into. The sporadic nature of that actually happening seems to account for the inconsistency we see in his play.
Most are personally attacking? You are out of your mind. Name one poster who has personally attacked JG, just one. No one "hates" JG in the sense the word is meant to convey. Your tainted definition of the word is rather pathetic and indicates a strong flavor of victimism. Are you a victim? Do people hate you? Do people tell you when you are doing something wrong and hate you? Is any criticism of the job you do hate? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you need to grow a pair and grow up.It dumbfounds me to read all of this hate over a kid. First, this is a kid.
