The Golf Thread

Not on a PGA set up.

Being a scratch golfer Is having a handicap of zero or better. You get a handicap based on a number of rounds, what you shoot, & the slope rating from the tees you play from. One round on a PGA set up won't ruin a handicap.

I've played that hole hundreds of times, with people far better than a 15+ handicap. You're not driving the green.

Next, you're going to tell me you swing a lob wedge on 6 on can get it 30 yards past the cart path on 8.

Abilty to hit it far does not equal abilty to score below par.

#6 I hit 9 iron, 2 putt par. #8 Driver, 8 iron, greenside bunker, out, 2 putt, par.

Btw, my 72 year old uncle played the whites with my cousin and had about a 100 yard approach on #1. Surely you can outhit an old man.

Thanks for the education.

I will give Bama the benefit of the doubt & say he has probably hit some drives 300yds or a little better. However I will never believe he averages over 300 yards with at least 300 yards carry. I don't think anybody else believes it either. Who do you have out the middle of the range or fairway watching to see where your ball hits?

If we average in the balls that explode on impact with the clubface of the driver, his average drops significantly.

Thread has over 9k posts. There really isn't much we've covered that's more entertaining than this lie e won't let go.

exactly. This is too ripe to pass up.

I can carry it 280. Carrying the ball 300 requires some assistance. I've done it a few times.

I trained for LDA back around 2000. I still have some 50" drivers. It's a different sport than golf. The reason most of those guys are also scratch golfers is because they used to be better than scratch but never good enough for a PGA card. Required a lot of travel and I really just wasn't good enough.

I still hit the ball far because I enjoy hitting the ball far. I still swing back past parallel because it feels normal since I've done it for so long.

Well now you're backtracking a little. You said you average 315 carry & your "keep it in the fairway" swing was still around 300 carry.

I can. I have 2 swings, a keep-it-in-play swing, which is about 315-318 or my best-ball tournament drive which is about 340-345. I keep my normal drive in the short grass about 50% and in play about 80%. My long drive attempts prob see short grass about 25% and in play about 50%.

What about your other clubs for reference? Me...

PW - 165
7 - 190
5 - 210
3wd - 280

I don't play anything higher than a 5 iron. No hybrids. I traded a 4 iron for a Gap wedge this season.

I play every course from the tips. My handicap says I should move forward, but I don't. I'm not playing very well this season. Not sure why. I've played 11 rounds since March, hopefully my game will come back to me.

Please point out where I claim to carry the ball 315+.

Carrying the ball 280 is a poke for anybody. That's hitting it on the screws every time with some power. I may carry it 280 on occasion but not on average. My mi****s are usually in play & may wind up 280 but definitely won't carry that.

So you can carry it 280 on occasion but I can't? Your mis-hits are in play and 280? A 280 yard mis-hit that's in play? Who's full of sh!t?

Lol. Everybody saw where you said you could carry it 315 on average. I said 280 on occasion but definitely not an average. Yea I sad a mis-hit might end up at 280 but it would carry that far for sure.

Please provide the post where I said I carry the ball 315. I just quoted it for you.

If you can mis-hit a ball 280 yards, your clean hits should be all over 300.

If nobody else remembers you saying you carried the ball 300+ in the air I will say I was wrong & apologize. I'm not saying my mis-hits carry 280 or all end up 280. I couldn't come close to telling you what my average is off the tee or what my driver carry is. I'm not a short hitter but I couldn't give you actual numbers because I don't know.

I don't recall you mentioning anything about carry, but 35 yards of roll in Tennessee seems a little much to me. Even if you're hitting a 7.5* driver.
