The Golf Thread

who you guys got in the Ryder?? Gonna have to take Europe on this one.
this is one thread where I not all for realism. My jingoism will be on full display next week.

I'm in a wedding and am considering wearing a US Flag has a do rag during the ceremony.

Headed to Destin in the morning

Planning on playing The Raven at Sandestin and Kelly Plantation

Sweet! Bring some extra ammo to Kelly -- I remember going through quite a few balls when I played there (although it's been a while. . . .).

I played the RTJ course at Palmetto Dunes this AM -- HOT and humid over here. The course was fantastic, but a little on the "short and snug" side for me. I only hit driver on about 4 holes and probably should have unsheathed it twice. The 3 wood was working well and left usually a short iron if properly placed. The par-5 10th is beautiful with a fantastic oceanside green.

I also played a course just on the mainland from Hilton Head called Eagle's Pointe, earlier in the week. Had an even 80, one away from finally breaking the mark!

We're considering Harbor Town Friday, but $250 seems like a lot of dough for what will most likely be a frustrating (but breathtaking) round. Anybody have other recommendations?

Fairways and greens, fellas,

KD

Haig Point on Daufuskie Island. If you can get on Long Cove by some miracle, do that over everything else. The Fazio course at Palmetto Dunes is also an amazing track, but it's tough.

I played Old South several years ago. If memory serves, there were quite a few alligators around the course. A bit unnerving when looking in the rough.

It took me a while to get used to seeing alligators on the course, but I have gotten used to it.

I prefer the masters...but to each his own...
I'm a huge Masters fan, but nothing matches the rivalry here. It's the lone golf tourney that I can get the same feelings I would at a UT - Alabama football game.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will once again hate Paul Casey and Miguel A. Jiminez and Ian Poulter by Sunday.

Right up from Eagle Pointe is Crescent Pointe. It's an Arnold Palmer design that I think is better than the Love design at Eagle Pointe.

Just within Sea Pines before you get to Harbor Town there is a Pete Dye redesign - Heron Point and the Ocean Course that are both around $100 I think.

yeah, just when i start pulling for some of the Euros again on the Tour, the Ryder Cup rolls around.

for instance, this year (and especially of late) i've been pulling for Sergio and Paddy in just about every tourney. i'll probably spend the better part of next year hoping they choke every chance they get.

as for the other part, i'm about even as far as the Ryder Cup and Masters are considered.

Old South is a fun, mostly low pressure course. I went low there last summer and I'm still being asked to apologize for it.

That's what my game is all about. I avoid the no fun, high pressure courses. I'm typically ready to sell my clubs for a week after hacking up on one of those.

Does any keep any old Woods for display purposes?

I just had some Ping Eye2's refinshed, and I had a set of Persimmon MacGregor's already.

Had the opportunity to play Stone Tree in Navato, CA. last week. It was different golf than what I normally see; placement golf, with lots of wind and elevation, and getting to the short grass meant very little if it wasn't in the correct spot on either fairway or green. I'm not sure I should have hit driver more than once. Playing on poa annua was also a bigger difference than I expected from the usual bent and bermuda.

My playing partners, one who plays to a 1, the other a former college golfer, carded 87 and 88 (both were course virgins, also.) I only stayed in double digints thanks to a few knocked back putts. Anyway, it was a very nice course, and I'd like another crack at it.

I have an old Hillerich and Bradsby (now known as PowerBilt or Louisville Slugger) driving iron. Wooden shaft and all. It's estimated to be from around the late 20's to early 30's.

I have what's left of a Wilson Jerry Pate 5 iron (blade). The shaft was left somewhere on Pine Lakes Golf Course during my frosh yr at UT (90). I keep it as a friendly reminder to take deep breaths instead.

i played terrible today. didn't really have my head into the game. usually a round consists of bad putting or poor iron/wedge shots. today it was both, but they rotated holes. i did shoot par at 16, 17, and 18. so i'll be back out there.

BPV, i noticed your buddy on the Nationwide Tour is pretty far down the money list these days. what's he up to right now? i've been secretly following a few guys on their tour this year, him being one. the other two guys i'm pulling for are in the top 35, so i'll see if they can make it in.
