Back up to a 10 handicap after dropping 3 strokes over the winter. Thinking the extra clothing may have kept me compact and less armie/wristy on my swing.

I was in Edwin Watts last week just picking up a grip for my driver & some guy was getting fit for a driver or just checking some out. Anyway he was hitting balls into the screen & caught one really low or topped it & it hit something at the bottom of the screen & came back & hit an older guy that works there in the eye. Luckily he was paying attention & it was a glancing blow & he even caught it but it left a nice mark.

Just "some guy" did that, huh?

80 today. Sank a lot of putts. Friends have brand new putters that are like $150 and mine was $14 at play it again sports, so it was a glorious day to say $14 after some long ones went in. That's a normal day 86-88, but I one putted the first 6 greens and they were all from 8-20 feet. I've never had a putting round like today before. I think I ended up with 24 putts.

Of all the technological improvements in golf, the one I still haven't participated in is putters. I'm using a circa 1990 Ping Zing2 with a 3 gram strip of lead tape that I added to the back purely for a sight line.

I had a ping zing 2 not too awful long ago. Can't remember what exact iteration it was.

I putted with a stainless Zing2 all through high school and college and then got away from it for some reason I can't remember. About 3 putters later I happened to find a beryllium copper Zing2 in a used club barrel at a golf store for $40.

I think mine was a later stainless version. It didnt have an insert or milled face or anything like that. It was a good putter probably the best blade style I've used. Had a cameron & played like 2 rounds before I traded it. Don't see what the big deal with those things are.

I won a Cameron at a Member/Guest and gave it to my Dad. It felt horrible to me.

Went to the range again today and same result hooking the piss out of the ball, another guy was there and we started talking and I told him what my problem was so he watched me hit a few balls then he suggested for me to back away from the ball, he said I was standing too close. So I did what he suggested and what do you know I hit my iron straight as an arrow then I hit my driver 10x straighter and further. I still hook my diver a little but it's not near as bad as it was.

I always get my club in the right position before I take my stance. Helps me with that problem.

It's all about the weight for me. Friend of mine that plays is a big, strong guy and has one of those huge grips. I tried his putter and felt no weight and it felt terrible to me. Almost like the weight was in the grip. I went to play it again sports and bought a SW and putter for $28. I wouldn't buy a set there, but I saved @ $200 and hit/putt as well as I would've with others.

Most of these big grips are lighter than conventional grips & make the head feel heavier. Maybe just his putter.

I've had the opposite experience with one of those Superstroke grips. It made the putter top heavy and feel like a PVC pipe.

I guess a lot of of factors come into play but most standard putter grips are at least a few grams heavier than the superstroke, at least the smaller versions. I have a slim on one putter & a 2.0 on the other. Both are mallet style putters (2-ball & nike method concept) & have a little weight to them compared to what a blade style probably is.
