The DeSantis containment thread -- all things DeSantis go here

And you lose that $500.
On further reflection I have decided that you were in fact correct. I had mistakenly assume you meant closer to the AMERICAN center. When I contemplated her over the top antisemitism, her advocacy of extreme environmental controls, and her love of centralized economic control
Of the economy coupled with a cradle to grave social support policy that you obviously meant she was closer to the National Socialism center. Heck, if not for her gender, she could walk up the the podium at the Zeppelin Field during the annual Nuremberg Party Congress and receive a standing ovation.

Oh, I did mean the American center. Stick with your first instincts; even though they are almost always wrong, it's still a better average than when you second guess yourself.

You guys crack me up - (which is just code for what I really wanted to say)

I'm going to meet you half way as an act of good faith. I'm glad you're seeing success in the public school system. It's imperative for us to compete globally in the 21st century. We need to get more parents on board to take a vested interest in the child's future. That starts with strong family like your kids and mine.

That's a great meeting point because I agree 100% with what you said.

Our districts send kids to the top universities year in and year out. Public schools provide the opportunity to receive an excellent education. It's just unfortunate that so many parents aren't up to the task of assuring their kids take advantage.
Many parents use private schools as a way to transfer their parental obligations to the school.
And that's fine by me.
I’m definitely not looking to throw a blanket over all school districts. But ours locally is just a train wreck and has been for years. The worst part is that the solution feeds the problem when affluent students with involved parents leave the school system.

DeSantis has demonstrated some pretty authoritarian tendencies over the past couple of years.
I’d argue that him rebelling against Covid mandates, particularly the Vaccine is one of the best examples of giving power back to the people in recent years. Or are you referring to something else? I also agree with him prohibiting state funded school officials from pushing sexual content on children.

He rebelled against the awful federal mandates in the wrong way. His mandates were just as authoritarian and power stripping as the federal ones were. I applaud him standing up to the fed .gov he just did it the wrong way.

This touches on something I posited with PJ earlier. When more and more people of means are wanting to pull kids out of public schools it will, as you suggest, make the initial public school problem worse. It's not hard to imagine a cycle where govt schools become even govt doctrine 1st and foremost which drives even more demand for alternatives. I'm aware this is a cynical extrapolation but I don't find it that far fetched and don't like how that would play out for the country.

All he had to do was say "We're not having those mandates enforced here." and dropped the mic. What the businesses in FL decided on their own to do needn't have been a concern.

So what you are saying is that the antiisemitic socialist who says capitalism is evil and that we should tax cow farts is somehow closer to the American center than a wildly popular governor who wins statewide elections in one of the country’s most diverse states?
I think I understand now 🙄

Can you explain that ?

Yes, that is what I am saying.

My .02 outside of this bill.

You want to improve public school performance? Stop worrying about the teachers. Start participating. Join the PTA. Become a room mom/dad. Volunteer at events. Email you kid's teachers regularly. Get to know the teachers in more than just a parent teacher conference day kind of way. Become a fixture at the school.

The parents that make the most noise are usually the ones you never see at any school functions. Don't be that Karen.

What's Creepy About the Unearthed Docs Instructing Teachers on How to Target Students for Trans Clubs

Let’s clear the air here first. No, I’m going all Iranian here and saying we need to wipe out the transgenders and the gays. There’s no Tehran protocol here. Again, no issues with these folks until biological males try to erase women’s sports and nuke the social order that’s been in place since...forever. We’re not going to overhaul everything for the less than one percent of transgender folks in America. Sorry, not going to happen. Also, we’re not going to talk about these complex issues in schools, especially with the freak show teachers we have coming out of the bunker. No, fourth-graders don’t need to know your trans, teacher person. No, we don’t need to go into graphic detail about your sex life either, teacher. No, we’re not going beyond the educational boundaries of comprehensive sexual education. We’re not going to show kids how to give great oral sex to their partners. Demonstrations on how to put a condom on—that’s okay. I can see some folks still having issues with that, but there’s give and take here.

What we’re also not going to accept is creepy teachers targeting students 10 years of age or younger to join transgender clubs. No.

Liking it and it being effective legislation are 2 separate ideas

Getting your child the best education possible is not an elitist idea and more than other purchase choices.
There's enough outcry to something that is allegedly not an issue to prove it is an issue. It's effective and it's supported. Tough scene for you.

It absolutely is. It's the same realm as "just buy an electric car if you don't like $5 gas". Not everyone has the money to send their kids to a 20-30k a year school.

It only matters if the public schools are a liberal indoctrination center and you don't agree with it. The are fat dumb and happy with worthless ideology being taught in public schools. If you don't like it, just pay for private school or home school your kids. No big deal right?
