Section AA last night

billbattle has it right. 99% of the fans have it right. If most of the fans are standing so should you for the most part. If most of the fans are sitting, so should you for the most part. Many, many times during a game we stand, give high fives to those in front and behind and everyone has a great time. If you are either sitting the whole game or standing the whole game then you simply don't understand the game. If everyone else is sitting on a third and one when Memphis has the ball at the 35 and not likely to score under any scenario unless we put in the third string, then it is probably safe to sit and scream your head off.

There are exceptions certainly if you were a member of the Cameron Crazies at Duke, standing the entire game would be expected and appreciated. Since you are likely not, please be polite to those around you.

Everyone loves their fellow Vol fans and the more enthusiastic and loud the better I like them, but I don't care for anyone who is intentionally rude and behaves like a BAMMER.

Stand up and cheer at the appropriate times and you should be able to have a great time. Stand up the entire game anywhere other than the student section at any venue in college football and someone is likely to say something.

By the way, the same goes for Basketball. We all stand until we score the first basket and then we sit down. Then when something exciting happens we all jump to our feet and cheer, etc. This doesn't prevent anyone from yelling, cheering, etc. standing and yelling at players, refs, coaches, etc.

I am guessing that if you are standing more than 25% of the time against Memphis State and you are not in the student section then you are blocking someone's view and didn't understand that we were going to beat the crap out of them whether you sat or stood. Just my opinion. FEAR THE ORANGE

This. If someone decides to stand the entire game, they are being inconsiderate buttheads. Unless they have some some kind of "sitting disorder".

I was greatly shocked last night. I've sat around the stadium but last night was the first time that I really saw an issue with fans. First I was smack in the middle of the blue hairs. We were the only ones standing for the running through the T and kickoff. I couldn't believe it! At halftime we decided to move down some since most people had already left by this point. We move closer to the students (section G actually) and I still couldn't believe what I saw. The people in front of us seemed extremely upset that we came in behind them. I didn't even want to cheer cause at least the five of them together were sitting the whole time with their arms crossed. We finally moved next to some friend and had a blast. People were cheering, having fun, and seemed happy to be at the game. This is the Neyland that I am use to.

Honestly, If you have health problems, then how are you able to walk to the stadium (or take the bus), climb the stadium to your seats, then sit on the hard benches for 3 hours, and repeat the process out? You might want to support your team at home. We are the 12th man for a reason. You think that comes from the people sitting the whole game? Does your presence just radiate sound to cause false starts or disrupt their timing? Seriously guys.....Neyland is a hostile environment BECAUSE of the passionate people that want to support their team.

I decided last night that I will become a season ticket holder next year but I want to find a fun section to sit in. We shouldn't limit our fun to the student section. Perhaps we should have a small sitting section and not the other way around.

Next time you see Berry or McCoy waves his hands in the air.....he's not swatting at gnats. Just FYI

Last thing....if someone is supporting their team by standing and you miss a play because of this...then please kindly move your head to the left or right and watch the play again on the big TV located there.

I went to the UK UT game in 2006. I had great seats 30 yard line 12 rows up. BUT I sat beside an old couple and they kept giving me looks like I was an idiot b/c I was cheering. I respect my elders but if I go to a game to support the team I love, by golly, Im gonna holla all night long if we are winning. So those old people can shove it and people who want a peaceful outing in Neyland.......STAY THE HECK HOME!

I used to get yelled at quite frequently by the blue-hairs behind my season-ticket seats. They have now learned that when we are on Defense and the game is still in question, they will stand or they won't see.

Besides, don't most people find it more comfortable when standing? My wife and I together clock in just shy of 300 pounds, and it's extremely tight for us when everyone is squishing together on the lovely butt-numbers. I can't imagine what it would be like if we were larger...

We're the 2nd most hostile stadium in the country........

According to who?
Sorry, but with all the talk and my personal experience at our stadium and many others, we're not in the top 5, unless we're playing FL or Bama. I wished it weren't that way...
It burns me up to hear people telling others to sit down at the stadium, those people really should stay home.

I think I saw a recent article posted by VolDad that said we had the #1 most consistently intimidating stadium in the country, day or night, regardless of our W-L record. There was some sort of statistical analysis of the fear registered in opposing players by testing their pituitary gland secretions during TV timeouts. Yeah! Eat that Oregon & LSU! Go Vols!

Houston, I just had to give you props for your avatar. Nice work.

Not to say that I wouldn't disown one of my own if they pulled a stunt like that, but kudos to you for being a good dad!

I never understand the "you have to stand the whole time or you are not a fan" arguments. The only reasonable posts in here are the ones that are telling you to go with the flow. You know why you had a bad experience? It is because you refused to go with the norms of your section. I think you would find that the majority of the stadium, with a few exceptions for students, typically sits for the majority of the game and manages to rise for explosive plays or during periodically important defensive stands. That's been the nature of the beast for as long as I have been going to games (spanning childhood in section S to the student section as a student and now back to the other sections when I can periodically make it back to TN) and well before my time as I understand it.

Wouldn't it have been easier to sit down? I stand up and cheer at certain times, but not a whole game. I've never quite understood why people can't cheer as loud seated as standing. Some sort of cosmic phenomenon I guess. The crux is, if everybody is standing, cool to stand. If most everyone is seated, time to sit.
Ah, the voice of reason

For us, part of the joy of the game is watching the over-exuberant youth around us going crazy. Over the years I've realized that I must save my voice for Sunday morning, but I still have a yeller streak. Amazing what leaning a little will do for your line of sight. BTW, being somewhat older, the knees do rebel against a lot of standing. But if standing is how you cheer, go for it and let us laugh.

When at Neyland Stadium you develop the urge to stick your fingers in your ears because of the noise or to tell the person cheering in front of you to sit down, stop to ask yourself "Should I really be here? Is there a fan who might enjoy this atmosphere more than I do?" and give those tickets up. Stay home on the couch.

I've heard stories on here about fans telling other fans to sit down and be quiet, but it's never happened to me until last night. I've never been so ashamed of the people around me at a game than last night.

At the beginning kick off my wife and I were standing and cheering and continued to stand while Tennessee got the ball.

Almost the whole two rows behind us started freaking out screaming at us to sit down. Of course we didn't and they just kept going and going and going and going. Finally I lost it and told everyone of them what I thought of them, one guy in particular, and it was awful. A couple beside me drove 5 hours to come and watch the game and were being yelled at as well, and she was drivin to tears because of these idiot people.

One guy even said he was going to get the ushers to kick us out because we wouldn't sit down. What a shame.:furious3:
Not trying to be a wet rag here, but maybe it was WHEN you were standing. I noticed that you said the one girl drove 5 hrs to watch the game. Many do that...and if you've done that and can't see it, it sux. I am a cheerer, give the loud opposing fans hell if they are acting arrogant (in a healthy way, of course), but there are times to stand and times to observe...many of the observation times call for extremely loud yelling, like when the opposition is lining up for a big play, but standing incessantly standing can make it tough for others that drove 5 hours. That's probably not you , but I J S.

Sitting down and being quiet is the absolute opposite thing you should be doing at a Tennessee football game. Just remember, there's no rule that says you have to sit down, so don't. Screw those people.

Shoot, go to the Woodlands!!! Coolest ton in Texas outside of the Austin area!! It fits that he should have a killer avatar.

Thank you. I'll give ol' dad credit for this one. If my Dad had brainwashed his 4 sons, we'd all be Razorback fans. :ill_h4h: Instead, he ended up with 3 Vols and 1 Rebel (my older brother is a loser, or what some on here would call a looser:crazy:). My younger son was born here in Texas and he got tired of hearing from his older brother how he was the only one not born in Tennessee. Poor little guy was always feeling left out, so I taught him to be proud of being a native Texan, including letting him root for the Longhorns if he is so inclined. He likes the Vols too.

My best move? He had a kindergarden girlfriend that was a cute little Aggie. He started to show some A&M support signs and I nipped that in the bud real quick. If you can push your kids toward or away from being a fan, don't sign them up for a lifetime of misery.

People that brainwash their kids to be Gamecock fans should be arrested for child abuse.

Hope that wasn't pointed at me. I think I explained myself adequetly. I'm a yeller, I spend quite a bit of time standing backwards taunting the opposing fans too. It's just an unserstanding of the game thats ome lack....not Volgrad, I'm sure.....but plenty of others. The inane comments will illustrate that. One morew thing....give 'em hell, but there are a few that need to tone down the f's and S's and such. I say it to my buddies, but it is VERY uncomfortable to see the piss poor unbringing exhibited by some.......

Same with me in section OO... I got some of the children (under 12) to start the Eric Berry chant with me. I stood up and told everyone in the Section that it was o.k. for us to cheer because we paid 5 bucks for our tickets just like everyone else. I was the only one singing Rocky Top... it was lame!

There is absolutely no reason to stand the entire game, or for the majority of the game for that matter.

If it makes you feel like a better fan to stand up, then good for you, just don't ruin others' experiences around you.
but isn't asking me to sit ruining my experience? or is it a one way street?

I'll tell you what drives me crazy...I'm not the tallest human being on the planet and I hate it when taller people are in the seat right in front of me! After reading this thread, I guess next time I'm at a game I'll just heckle them. You know, ask em, "how's the weather is up there? Give me a heads up if it starts to rain." and stuff...then tell them to lose a couple of inches cause I paid for my seat and want to actually see the game! Of course I'll curse them for being so tall sometime during all of this...

I disagree 100%. I enjoy standing and cheering for most of the game as I get more into it that way and enjoy the experience more. I am also 6'4" and I don't know where you are sitting but I would much rather stand than have my knees crammed into metal bleachers and someone else's knees in my back.

If you were the ones on the very front row of AA I was a few rows back and I agree that the people who told you to sit down were way out of line. That's what going to the game is all about standing and cheering. If you want to go to the game and sit get stadium seats like in ZZ15 instead of a metal bench. Also I believe someone from Teagues family was around you. Not sure when you left but a big female slipped and fell on top of the people sitting behind you so that's what you get for sitting.
