So it sounds like we lead for the 5 star QB, 5 star Vic Burley, and are right at the top for 5 star Carnell Tate. Caleb Herring is a Vol without question, and he's a top 50 player who will likely move up. Not to mention we're going to land Desean Bishop, a freaking baller though he isn't ranked yet.

That '23 class is fixing to be special. This is what I hoped for with Heup. You knew that he was bringing an elite offense with QB development. QB's and skill players are going to want to play here. You have Garner, the goat defensive recruiter. This is looking like we're on our way.

That's really all I ask - that we shoot for the very best. We all know how hard it is to actually land them vs the best programs, but I always like how Pruitt at least approached things. He wasn't afraid to go for the best...even if you lose out on 3/4 at least you got 1/4...better than the Dooley days. Glad to see Hype is bringing a similar fearlessness. He's been at OU...in the SEC. He understands what it means to recruit in the big times.

In my opinion this is a non starter for PM. He owns no clothing company nor does he have a fashion line with any apparel company. Additionally, PM is a football purist, he more than likely wants kids to come to TN because they love TN not because he paid them too.

Also if he did have a fashion line, this board would implode if he endorsed a kid playing for UGA, Bama, or Florida.

Actually both kids in that picture are Michigan athletes…his alma mater.

The razor thin difference in our recruiting tier is pretty wild. From us #14 up 1 spot to Mizzou at #13 is a 6 pt gap...close itself. But if you go down just a mere 3 points you get all the way down to #20.

Just a reminder to folks in February when we may not add much. We could be 20th or even a bit lower and it would literally not have any material value. Fact is we're in a good tier, which imo is more of how recruiting rankings should be viewed, considering the razor thin, and at other places, huge gaps.

On the flipside we're just 11 pts to #10 UK. So that's a grand total of just 14 points separating #10 and #20. And yet from 10th to 9th (Michigan) is a larger 18 point gap. This is basically a huge tier 3/tier 4 group of ~11 teams with hardly a difference.

Anybody who is worried about taking three star recruits just look at Theo Jackson. He was a three-star and the 26 best player in Tennessee according to the rankings and played like a high four star this year. Second team all SEC at his position and our best player on defense.

Sometimes guys need to develop and sometimes they just need the right coaching. Almost anyone who is in the top 500 recruits has the athletic potential to be an impact player if they're developed and have the right attitude to reach their potential.

Not to mention they are 17-18 YO and not fully mentally and physically developed. Heck I grew 4" after HS.
Even the NFL has difficulty projecting 21-24 YO.

I actually went to the Dr a few months ago and I swear I shrunk. Not to mention my height...lol.

Fans vs donors. There is zero chance I'd drop 5 figures annually on pro ball, but I do so for college ball. You may believe whatever you like, but I promise you I am not alone in my view.

I promise you're in the vast, vast minority. Most do not donate to help kids get an education.

I casually watch the NFL, but I invest heavily in college. Something I'm willing to do to provide a benefit to kids that otherwise wouldn't be able to attend college. When college ball is nothing more than NFL-lite, I doubt there will be as much incentive to donate. NIL and the portal have substantially degraded the emphasis on the school and have turned kids into mercenaries, just like their overpaid coaches. And yes, that will have (and already is having) a negative effect on college ball, and it's just starting.

The largest stadiums are college stadiums, not pro. The more college becomes like pro, the emptier the stadiums will be.

I don't begrudge college kids making money. I do resent my favorite hobby morphing into something I no longer love.

50k is an extremely LOW estimate at the P5 level. But even if it was say 50k a year for 85 players on scholarship for football that's over 4 million a year and that's just one sport. The SEC didn't generate 1 billion for the whole conference so "billions" is a bit of a stretch. I'd say most schools are in the 50 to 75 million a year in revenue, still a ton of money being made though.

But yeah less than 1% is probably going to scholarship athletes and that seems way to lopsided...but it's no different than what Amazon, Wal-Mart, Microsoft, Tesla, Google, etc. etc. etc. is doing big business has always been lopsided to pay the top folk far more than they truly "earn" than the workers (or athletes).

Once again..College sports is not a normal business, not in the normal definition of business...I don't understand how hard it is for people to understand that. The drivers of revenue are not really the players...it is us the fans that pull for their state or school they attended..that is not a f'n normal business.

If bought a pos Ford and I swore I would never buy another. I didn't buy a Ford because I had an emotional attachment to Fords, I bought one because I thought it was a good deal..

I love the Vols and I support them no f'n matter how much they suck, because I am a proud Tennessean. It is not a business transaction, it is an emotional attachment that links me to my family going back generations.

I hate that dumb . If college players are employees, and it is going to a pro league, then we need a draft, and players no longer get to pick where they want to go and there is a fair contract where how much a dude makes when he is drafted is capped..just like the pros.

Didn't say that at all. I resent that it is going to damage collegiate athletics for the majority of kids who won't go pro or enjoy 5 or 6 figure NIL deals. I resent that it is turning kids into mercenaries who don't give 2 craps about UT or any other school, only who pays best.

Not to mention we are currently already better on the field than Mizzou. I don’t think they made up a ton of ground. They’ll have to do it again next yr and I feel real good about how we do in the 23 class. And we will keep adding all the way through spring here going forward.
