Negative. The NCAA lost a lawsuit specifically about regulating NIL which is why the rules against it were lifted. The NEXT lawsuit is former players suing the NCAA (and the schools in the NCAA) because they illegally regulated NIL for years and those players missed out on deals and money.

The NCAA and schools can't do squat about NIL and may end up with a big class action lawsuit.

Regulate was a poor word choice on my part. They would help “facilitate” the deals. There we go. It’s all because they want what’s best for the student athlete of course.

The NCAA has no way to influence nor "facilitate" anything related to NIL. They fought hard to keep it from happening and were told it was illegal for them to interfere in NIL deals.

They LITERALLY are on the verge of having to pay guys like Peyton Manning a helluva lot of money because they sold the Manning name and didn't give him a cut AND kept him from making money from endorsements while at TN.

The NCAA will keep its nose out of NIL from now on.

Not it mid season it doesn’t……and in pro football there are no fully guaranteed contracts. You get hurt……bye

I’ll be always been in favor of some extra money for all college athletes , but this is only going to get worse.

And for kids who get cut or can't play due to injuries, but who weren't dismissed due to behavior, colleges generally assist in placement elsewhere and/or continue financial aid under other programs to help them complete their education. College != Pro.

Probably the last time to play Memphis in a while. Barnes isn't going to schedule them.
Born/Raised in Mempho put them in my rear view mirror moons ago....Tiger High was not mentioned in our house growing up. Hated then more than Fl....end the series and only play them in NCAA tournament !

Anybody who is worried about taking three star recruits just look at Theo Jackson. He was a three-star and the 26 best player in Tennessee according to the rankings and played like a high four star this year. Second team all SEC at his position and our best player on defense.

Sometimes guys need to develop and sometimes they just need the right coaching. Almost anyone who is in the top 500 recruits has the athletic potential to be an impact player if they're developed and have the right attitude to reach their potential.

Electric?! Ill allow.
I bet you would

now that happens……but if these kids are getting cash to play, that money ain’t going to be coming to them and they get their scholarship cut so another kid can come in.

I casually watch the NFL, but I invest heavily in college. Something I'm willing to do to provide a benefit to kids that otherwise wouldn't be able to attend college. When college ball is nothing more than NFL-lite, I doubt there will be as much incentive to donate. NIL and the portal have substantially degraded the emphasis on the school and have turned kids into mercenaries, just like their overpaid coaches. And yes, that will have (and already is having) a negative effect on college ball, and it's just starting.

The largest stadiums are college stadiums, not pro. The more college becomes like pro, the emptier the stadiums will be.

I don't begrudge college kids making money. I do resent my favorite hobby morphing into something I no longer love.
Well said.
