Players Speaking Up

They didn't back off, they had to break it down for the knuckle draggers. It's sad when portions of the fan base get their feelings hurt because an African American young man voices his frustration with a system that unfairly treats individuals that look like him. The only way for fanbases to listen is if players like Trey Smith and others start to go to HBCUs. Money would flow to those schools because they would put a better product on the field.
They will not start going to the HBCUs in any mass exodus. They will go to winning programs with money, facilities and the easier path to the NFL because they are in it for their future, just like they do now. It's a business transaction.

The fact is, many fans dont want to see these young black men on our team playing for our university choosing to go down the wrong path BECAUSE we do actually care about them as human beings and not just merely pieces on a field.

And when we see these types of comments we see young men being led down the wrong path.

You don’t know many black people, do you?

White Wokeness

Still can't produce a quote of LeBron saying what you've claimed he's said, and still can't explain your 'dopey claim' that LeBron's NBA success is an indicator that racial discrimination doesn't exist.

Now you throw out a dog whistle link because you still can't fathom the concept that a black person has a very different experience than yourself.

This is why you can't be taken seriously on this topic.

Racism has always existed and will always exist. It gets exasperated the smaller the world gets and the more heterogeneous societies get. I'd like to go back to simpler times where we just made fun of the Irish and the Welsh.

You can’t force someone to feel a certain way. I know this seems elementary and weak to some, but people have feelings both men and women. And those feelings, whether we agree with them or not, are valid. It may not seem real to us, but it is real to them. It’s like telling someone with clinical anxiety, you’re fine, why are you freaking out? They feel the way they do even if it is not understandable. All you can do is be there for them to listen and help them through. And along the process, if they need correction or direction, they will be more open to listen to you because they know you care about them.

Every single human has a different experience. My goodness this is dumb.

They should never, ever tell the fans what to do. What they don’t understand is that many of the fans are graduates from the University and donate money that allows these guys the ability to play football at this level. It’s one thing if they want to vocally support groups they believe in, but an entirely different thing if they demand everyone support the same groups or they aren’t welcome. No sir, that don’t fly with me. UT better get a handle on this before college football fans stop being fans.

It's exhausting how many fans are willfully misinterpreting what Trey and Josh said. It's like you all are looking for a reason to be mad. They aren't demanding you support any of the "same groups" they do. In their statement, and in the podcast, they did not say anything of the sort. They also aren't demanding fans not come to games as so many have been saying.

They very clearly state their comments are for those who don't "support them as human beings" and since I assume everyone on this board is saying they support them as humans NO ONE should be upset unless this hits closer to home than you're willing to admit.

True. So the question becomes: Are you helping someone or hurting them by buying into their delusion?

Supporting the notion that anything is true if you just believe hard enough is not a foundation to a sane society.

Especially when we are being asked to believe a false idea that is ultimately harmful to black people.

You're one of the most racist people on this board.
I am racist to call out racist people on their BS? Interesting concept. By your logic, Chris Hansen is a child predator because he catches child predators. You would be wise to not tell a person of color what is and is not racism.

I read the initial tweet by Josh and the support from Trey. I am not reading 7 pages of poo-flinging.

I don't understand why his tweet sparked such a negative response. Except for the bigger picture implications in our society. I think the fans generally support a player as a human being. Players like AJ Johnson were mostly supported especially as evidence which brought doubt about his behavior came to light. And that is just one instance. I've seen several negative replies about KPD when they are involved with a player.

Maybe, the current events are making people feel less respected/appreciated as an individual because groups are exalted. If it were Josh under the knee of a KPD office instead of George Floyd, I would hope fans witnessing would have intervened.

I'm going to repost this incredibly well said tweet thread by Trey Smith as it was ignored earlier in this topic. I implore you all to read this as it might settle down some of the people who feel hurt by their initial comments.

Black people can’t be racist, or so I am told
So you're saying a race of people that have been brutalized and discriminated against since they've been in America have no right to be angry at the race of people that oppressed their ancestors, and continue to do so in some form? Do I hate white people? No. Do I hate racists? With out a doubt.

Are there people without color?

But you are a racist.

Please notice the dates on the tweets. Someone, most-likely, gave Trey some excellent advise on how to "follow up" his earlier comment. These young men need this guidance and I am glad they are receiving it.

I'm well aware these comments come after their initial podcast interview. That doesn't discredit or make Trey's thoughts any less valid. He's also a very well educated young men, so I'm sure he didn't need a PR person telling him what to do.

Did I say a word about "discredit"?

These players give more to their university than most fans. The number of fans who are graduates and donors of any real substance is very small.

It just felt like the implication of your comment about the date/time of the "follow-up" comments and the suggestion that he had a PR guy tell him what to say discredits his comments as if he needed clarification for the point to be valid.

My apologies for assuming wrong, but a lot of people on this board have been willfully misinterpreting what Trey and Josh said so it can be difficult to see who is genuine over a forum.

Thanks for the reply. I was a vendor to many D-1 athletic departments before I retired. The young men are coached and guided by many people in the department, starting with their position coach. Your assumption that I meant a "PR" person is totally false.

You have every right to be angry, just as most people have every right not to care.

Again. If racism is so bad in America then leave. People of all races, ethnicity, religions have been fleeing from oppression for millennia. It literally has never been easier or cheaper than right now.

Check the Jews and Japanese and see how quickly they moved on. It might do you some good.
