Pistol Formation Thoughts?

We have gotten our asses kicked for a decade running a predictable pro-style offense with mediocre personnel. While 70 percent of college teams (or thereabouts) are running spread, running QBs, we have had some of the worst offenses in UT history over the last seven years. This is the problem with pro-style in college now: If you aren't good at it--or don't have a stud defense as a hedge against your mediocre pro-style offense (as bama does)--you are going to get beat by teams with more creative offenses. Kiffin didn't want the QB from Va. Beach because he was more spread-style, not tall enough, and he goes to Clemson and excels. I'm tired of watching our crappy, predictable, pro-style offense. We need to be creative--and so I applaud any formation or wrinkle that is.

I agree! :salute: Lets hire Paul Johnson and run the triple option and dominate the SEC and soon the nation! Hey at least its exciting and productive!

Pistol, shotgun or under center lets not kid ourselves and expect him to be on the money from the first snap. IF he does start he may take a few series to get back into rythim!

We aren't going gimmick. It is hard for Bray to take snaps under center with his thumb. The pistol formation allows him to not do that, but still run our pro-style offense. This stuff isn't rocket science people.

Apparently it is for some of these people.

U r sick if u think the option is exciting. The option means u have zero talent and have given up.

Should've added which teams in the league run the option who have a qb that can complete more than 2forward passes in a game.
I normally detest people that answer with silly one liners so forgive me but I must because I detest Tebow more.

muahahahahaha that is gold

In looking at some of the top QBs in the league right now, the type of offensive system in college may be a little overrated.

Rodgers- Tedford's offense @ Cal
Brees- Tiller's offense @ Purdue
Newton- Malzahn's offense
Roethlisberger- Pass happy shotgun offense at Miami

Anyways, I still am confused as what the big opposition is to the pistol? A shotgun variation of a traditional offense that lets us put Bray back there.

Being able to run the ball to keep an sec defense honest

The pistol would not improve things at all. It takes too long for the RB to get to the line of scrimmage as it is - much less adding another couple of yards. If the RB was moved up to 5 yards back of it he would have a much better chance to gain some yards.

In honor of "the pistol", I hope this is the theme for this weekend's game...
