Pistol Formation Thoughts?

Yeah they may run a similar offense but they can also take snaps under center... Basically we will be in this formation all night.. No under center at all.. Which scares me because if we have to bring simms in for a qb sneak on 4-1" we will lose...

Yeah I know, I just get tired of people calling the I formation a pro style offense. A pro style offense today is shotgun spread.

isnt that basically the same thing? tomato-tamato

Well yes and no... I mean't that I don't think the coaches would do it if Bray was a no go for this game... They wouldn't change it up to pistol for Worley... The only reason they are changing is to get Bray in the game..

Kinda, IIRC in the Pistol formation the RB stands behind the QB (who is in shotgun) and not off to the side. THe QB also stands 4 yards behind center instead of 7 like in the shotgun. The RB then stands 3 yards behind the QB, which is where the QB normally stands in the shotgun.

so sacrifice the long term for the short by running a gimmick offense, great

It's not the Pistol offense that Nevada runs. It's a pistol formation. Alabama does it occasionally. We are going to run our pro-style offense out of a pistol FORMATION!

Just go Simms on the run, Bray on the pass we're good. So what if they know it's coming, nothing has worked lately anyway. (Sarcasm)

We have enough trouble being effective with a qb sneak and picking up positive yardage with our regular packages. I'd hope we'd focus on doing the basic offense correctly and effectively before we go gimmick on people. We've seen this stupid formation from the Locke years through the G-Gun and on. Never has been something that worked worth a damn. Can't see why folks expect us to suddenly reinvent the wheel by running it now.

Just run the offense, block, tackle, line up right and play hard for 4 quarters. Leave the tricks to someone else.

I wonder if Bray will line up 4 yards back with Poole or Lane behind him... or if he will line up like 6 yards back with the RB the side?? Anyone know?

We aren't going gimmick. It is hard for Bray to take snaps under center with his thumb. The pistol formation allows him to not do that, but still run our pro-style offense. This stuff isn't rocket science people.

You can't just run the offense... Bray can't take snaps under center... He has to be in this special formation... It changes everything... Route Timing, Run Plays, blocking everything...
