But does Gruden want us?

People are assuming Gruden is the saint when in reality he is the one with the history of being the run away bride.

His wife would kill him if he ran her University's name through the mud... and with her family living near Knoxville, that helps too.

The guy has done camps for us and has always stated how much he loves UT.

If he wasn't interested he would have POLITELY said so in a released statement.

Why does no one get this?

Morning all! Been lurking for a long time and decided to finally post. Let me start by saying that my hubby and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Gruden threads! I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for making this coaching search such a fun and enjoyable experience. As someone put it previously, this is much more exciting then most of the football games we watched this season.

I guess this morning it seems less likely that we'll end up with Gruden but until Hart brings out someone different, Hubby and I are all in! Even if it's not him, we'll still be saying Go Vols! :rock:

As do Skeeters comments about Gruden but who's counting. I'm a flip flopping liar because I do not state a belief and stick to it during evidence coming in daily, sometimes hourly. Thanks for mentioning that. I thought the same thing.

Someone posted a link from an old article (linking Gruden and Dallas) that stated that his ESPN contract was ironclad. I would think that at least supports the theory that he finishes MNF for this season before he moves on.

Guys..and Gals...honest question...is there an AD on the planet that wouldn't close the deal with Gruden if they had a realistic chance? Consider your answers carefully.

And this is why I don't believe it's over. Everything so far has been fishy.

Name one person in the local media who has been consistent on their source info....none....

Hyams for instance says no Gruden, then they reached out to Gruden. Then the meeting was cancelled and no this so called source says that Hart never even talked to the agent.

No one knows for sure what happened yet. What do we know? Gruden has strong history with UT, Hart does not and was hired from a rival.

I think Leonard Little's quote is very telling in this regard. Gruden probably kept moving the goalposts on us. Very possible.

Those calling for harts head are overreacting to this whole situation.

Patience, cooler heads always prevails.

The timing is worst thing for me. Hart knew grudens demands from the start, if he knew he couldnt meet them the talks should have been over before now. Instead it played out to the point of getting the fan base excited just to let them down and basically screw the next coach. No matter who we end up with, unless this is truly part of a plan for gruden, this is one of the worst coaching searches i have ever seen. At least when dooley was hired they made you think he was the only one that wanted it, and i wanted to back somebody that really wanted to be here.

You make a great point. I was told hart and the AD believed they had him done but everyday that thought is was finished over the past 2weeks he kept upping his demands. The realization finally set in that he wasn't going to follow thru under any circumstances.

I didn't say hart was going to win the season ticket war with this hire. Gruden was the only realistic name that could do that and he proved he wasn't realistic. All hart should worry about is hiring a coach that will win regardless of its public perception.

You said winning the press conference would. Thats what i disagree with. It will be hard for a lot of fans to watch the press conference and not sit there and think this should be gruden. If the talks were called off two weeks ago then most would have moved on by now and backed a good hire.

Why is it so much easier for us to pile on hart and put the blame on him??

Jon Gruden has a LONG history of doing this to a number of schools and clearly is after nothing but keeping his name on the rumor mill.

Why not place all the blame on his shoulders and support Dave Hart in finding us the best football coach to win games and not press conferences?

Hart didn't want to fire Dooley, he wanted to give him more time. Just what exactly has Hart done to win you over that he is going to do what is best in hiring the right man to lead UT out of the pits of hell?

This. The realistic chance is what all the hub-bub is about.

No way this gets f'd up unless we are in a movie. We all know movies always have a happy ending, at least 98% of them. So, still gotta feel good about where we are.

Well people need to give this program more credit. I think most are short sighted because of the past few years. I'm all in until a coach not named gruden is standing at the podium. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but we can have hope because I think it's what we deserve. And you're welcome

Roman is the kind of name that we should have hired last go around. He would jump at the chance to come here and is a great coach.

Part of that buildup was boosters and this board, not Hart at all. That's where Bcarter's posts about boosters talking the talk but not walking the walk make sense. Look Boosters and Lemonte put Hart and us in this situation, no one else.
Gruden is and will always be a big risk big reward for anyone negotiating with him. It's partly what scares me about us waiting into late December chasing him. What if an NFl job opens and we've passed on other valuable College candidates?
