I hate to be the one to break it to you, but we ain't Alabama. We are a bottom feeding loser with mediocre talent and a pitiful incoming recruiting class. We are coming off one of the worst coaching disasters in the history of college football. Who do you expect us to be interviewing? Strong and Fedora are pretty good considering where we are sitting currently.

That is why the Gruden deal must be closed at all cost. We should thank our lucky stars he has shown interest in us.

That comment and attitude should really sure up our current recruits coming in. And claiming it was one of the worst coaching hires in the history of college football. In the history of UT football I would place it in the top five worst, but college FB history is a joke. I admit Tennessee is not the desired place it was 10 yrs ago. However, we are considered a top ten coaching destination over other schools such as FSU, Auburn, Arkansas, and believe it or not Vandy and Kentucky. We are not bottom feeders

I didn't say hart was going to win the season ticket war with this hire. Gruden was the only realistic name that could do that and he proved he wasn't realistic. All hart should worry about is hiring a coach that will win regardless of its public perception.

Did he prove he wasn't realistic?

Hart didn't want to fire Dooley, he wanted to give him more time. Just what exactly has Hart done to win you over that he is going to do what is best in hiring the right man to lead UT out of the pits of hell?

This. This is why I'm afraid he may not get this hire right.

You make a great point. I was told hart and the AD believed they had him done but everyday that thought is was finished over the past 2weeks he kept upping his demands. The realization finally set in that he wasn't going to follow thru under any circumstances.

If this is true i would put it out there if i were hart. Grudens agent didnt hold back on bashing us. If hart came out and said this it would be easier for me to say "hey we gave it a try and it didnt work". I would be behind hart then, but i dont think thats how it went.

I believe that is simply false. History is on my side. JG darn sure wasn't a virgin when it comes to screwing schools

Believe what you want.

But I will say this, Knox media is saying that money was never discussed with Gruden (and their source is UT AD).

But that assertion is simply a bold face lie!!!

990 and KNS are puppets of the Univeristy! Hubbs and Hyams denied that UT was meeting with Gruden. Then less than 24 hours later they both came out and said that Hart was supposed to meet with Gruden but the meeting was cancelled by the Gruden Camp.

Come on man... wake up....Guess you like wool!

Guys..and Gals...honest question...is there an AD on the planet that wouldn't close the deal with Gruden if they had a realistic chance? Consider your answers carefully.

First of all I feel strongly that gruden never wanted the job but only the attention but for the sake of answering your question I will assume he did.

If gruden wanted full control over his compliance department like was rumored there are many ADs that would have chosen to pass on JG. If he indeed wanted full control over compliance I am really thankful we have moved on.

It is considered a good coaching job because we pay good money

He can't breach confidential negotiations. BUT, he can at least say something to set the record straight.

I certainly believe money was discussed and each time a deal was close to being acce

Okay with that reasoning..why hasn't he made a positive statement concerning UT after his agent made the remarks he did? I actually expected one to be released immediately but here we are....just sayin.

This too, the Lemonte deal soured me a fair amount with Gruden. Reminded me that sometimes you can fly too close to the sun. Gruden IMO is a USC kind of coach.

Kiffen has spent his career trying to emulate Gruden. With Kiffen the flaws are easy to see somehow because he's a lesser talent. Because Chuckie has a cool nickname, Superbowl ring and MNF the flaws are harder to remember.

I certainly believe money was discussed and each time a deal was close to being accepted he kept asking for more money and of stipulations. He never intended to accept any deal is what I was told

I believe what happened is the deal was about to go through, but it involved so much money and exposed the school to so much risk, Hart wanted to try talking with some other people first just to see how things played out. LaMonte doesn't want grudens name to be 2nd to anyone, and calls it off, and Hart sticks to his guns about wanting to make a hire for the school, not the boosters.

I think that both hart and the boosters wanted the deal, but what the boosters viewed as a reasonable deal money wise, Hart viewed as outrageous and potentially damaging to the school if some how the coaches didn't end up being big winners.

Hart wants it, but not to the extent he feels he's putting the school at risk, so both parties picked up and moved on.

Here's what I think will happen though. If Gruden wasn't 1 on Hart's list, where was he? If Strong and Jimbo were ahead of Gruden, and those interviews end up being stale and Hart doesn't think they could get the job done, Gruden comes back into play, and Hart is willin to listen.

A lot of negotiations end up being shot down, the two parties think a while, look at other options, then come back together with a little better compromise.

I'm not saying that WILL happen, but I think it's the best chance for something to still go down with Gruden

Amen Gman!!!!

The word needs to be spread.

Let me ask the Hart supporters and Nega Gruden's a question.....

What Athletic Director in this country would not hire Gruden if they had the chance???

I believe this after reading Leonard Little's quote.

I have heard this "wanted attention" excuse a LOT. He is the friggin' face of the NFL on Monday Night Football! There is no attention we could give him! Maybe that is the problem he had second thoughts about being out of the league but none of these other excuses are holding water.

But you are citing hubbs that he wanted more control. Hubbs also said no negotiations took place. The stories dont add up for a clear cut answer that he didnt want the job.
