New commitment!!!!

And if Fulmer had recruited him the Fulmer haters (a bunch of you here) would have been screaming that the end was coming.

Basically there are two things that ultimately determine how good any recruit is when all is said and done and that's God given ability and what their position coach can get out of them. I have seen many 4 and 5 star recruits never even get on the field period. I have never seen a 3 star recruit get worse. It just doesn't happen. Some here don't wanna except it, but it's fact. Obviously given the choice we would all love 5 or 4 star talents who are coachable and who improve beyond their current talent level, but those guys are few and far between. Given that, I'll take 3 starts any day that are willing to work hard, take coaching, and play together as a team.

What "fact" are you trying to prove? That 3-stars improve with college coaching just like every other player ever?

That's because no one remembers the 3 star guy that flops because he's not etched into everyone's memory as an "elite talent".

I don't know if this kid will pan out or not.... no one here does. But I will not dump on these kids that our coaching staff think have what it takes to get us back to winning ways. This team, and it's fans, have been through enough crap the last 3 years to have another Clay Travis book written about them. All I am saying is give this kid a chance and at least let him put the pads on and get a few practices under his belt before you bash him. Heck, he hasn't even signed his LOI yet, and might never sign it, but for now he says he is all vol, so am I ... so welcome to the family young man!!!

I agree.

However, in regards to OL and DL, they are the hardest to "evaluate" by these recruiting sites.

For that reason, I don't think we're going to know what kind of class we have in the upcoming class for a while. It's not like these OL are ready to play as Frosh either.

But, as long as it's full of linemen, that would appear to be a step in the right direction with recruiting.

So Fulmer never had a 3 star or lower ever turn out to be a good player? How about Al Wilson? I beleive he was a low 3 star? VA Tech kicked the crap out of us with a team loaded with 3 star talent. The 3 star tailback that ran all over us and the rest of the ACC last year was a 3 star. Stars don't mean squat other than it is an opinion of some guy who watched some film or maybe got to see a game of a kid and evaluate him. 0 stars means no evaluation. Evidently CDD and CCS did evaluate him and saw something that they liked. How is your evaluation coming?

how is this kid from Gainesville and was missed by all the Florida teams ...not to mention the one in Gainsville that can obviously evaluate talent? They have not missed him ...they have not offerred him . Wait a minute ...UCF , South FL , and Fl International have offerred him !

I wish I could be you and have unquestioning faith in the coaching staff ...but I can follow the paper trail to these kids doors just like everybody else . We have one recruit with major interest from top tier programs ...one that may in the future ...and a bunch more that that are hot commodities at places like Vandy and Baylor .

I have no problem with project players and character guys and guys that are under the radar ...but if that is really all you are getting ...well you will look up and be Vandy or Baylor.

Dooley and crew have alot of offers out to some top notch guys ...but they are not saying yes at this point. Hopefully they will.

I try not to get too wrapped around the stars assigned to the commits but....past years have found to compete in the SEC, 3 star recruits don't quite fill the bill. Am I off here or is there reason for cautious optimism?

I don't have unquestioning faith in anyone on this staff. But when it comes down to something like evaluating a player that I have never met in person, seen tape on, or even heard his name before versus someone like CCS who has probably done all those things and more, then yes I will trust his judgement over mine or yours or anyone elses on here. That is until they have been proven otherwise. And it's not that I think this kid will be the next Haynesworth or Leonard little either, but I do beleive in giving someone a chance to prove himself.
Heck, I thought Dooley was a desperation hire like alot of you on here and he definately was not my first choice.... Muschamp was. But at this point I am playing the cards I have been dealt and I am not the kind to sit around crying in my beer over things I can't control.

As much as the naysayers knows about recruiting players,I cant believe Rivals or Scout or schools hasnt contacted any of you.You see a kid commit and the first thing you do is look to see how many stars are beside his name.Thats pathetic that you will take what someone from rivals or scout thinks but not what your own coach thinks.
I think I would take CCS opinion of any player over what some recruiting geek says.

Just surprised that he lives in Gainsville and UF hasn't offered (or ole miss either?). However, I trust our coaches and am happy to have him in Orange.

Chuck Smith, Lance Thompson, Dooley, Chaney, Hiestand, Baggett are all proven talent evaluators. I trust them over a Scout or a Rivals anyday

EXACTLY, THIS KID WON'T GET A TRUE EVALUATION OF HIS TALENT BY SCOUT OR RIVALS UNTIL THIS FALL AT BEST. TOO MANY KIDS TO EVALUATE BY THESE RECRUITING SERVICES DUE TO THE RECENT POPULARITY OF SOME PEOPLE RELYING ON THE STAR RATINGS.

THIS KID WAS EVALUATED IN PERSON AT CAMP BY COACHES. THAT IS THE BEST EVALUATION YOU CAN GO BY. IF THEY OFFER IN CAMP THEN THE KID CAN PLAY REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY STARS HE BROUGHT WITH HIM. I LIKE WHAT DOOLEY IS DOING. BUILD YOUR BASE THEN GO TAKE YOUR CHANCES ON THE TOP TIER STAR GUYS! sorry for all caps guys just realized that..

I find it funny that a few of you guys bash every new commit we get because they are not a 4 or 5*. You idiots realize these kids can pull up the site and see everything thats being said about them right? I have a feeling that we are going to get some suprise 4 and 5 * players on NSD. I think right now Dooley and staff are doing what needs done in getting solid commits for needed positions. You have to have a solid foundation to build on.

I thought Al was a low 3 star Justin, but I defer to you my man. You know your stuff!!:good!:

Dont we have plenty of scholly's any way to just throw around? Who knows he may be great once hes developed.

Linemen are the hardest to evaluate anyway. Those guys that are ranked 4 or 5 star are ready now to contribute. Get a guy into your program for a year and he may have been ranked very high coming out. You just have to trust the coaches on this one.
