A $600 laptop is a plasticky piece of crap. An Apple laptop is a sturdy, well-built solid piece of aluminum. That comes with free tech support forever at a store where you can just walk in and ask them to help you.
The only company making laptops of the same consistently high quality is Apple is Lenovo, and they are priced accordingly. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for.
My roommate has been through two macs (one Macbook, one MBP) breaking down and not working in the same timeframe that I've had my $800 HP laptop. Not to mention I've got a 6 or 7 year old HP desktop that still runs perfectly.
These little mac fanboy delusions are hilarious.
Those experiences are probably extremely relevant to your purchasing behavior. Of course I have my own experiences and they're the complete opposite. See how that works?
Tell that same thing to the guy who says all PCs are plasticy garbage.
I'll stick to the opinion that Macs are overpriced, underpowered machines built tor people who can't run a computer.
I just delivered a Dell Vostro 3750 today, with a Intel 330 series SSD installed. Restart from one desktop, to next usable desktop (Win 7 Pro 64) was 27 seconds, including POST and BIOS screens. Windows 7 is a great OS.
I still use XP, just because I've got it configured for what I do, and I use Ubuntu 11.10 on my laptop for maximum battery life (Preload and Jupiter are great for that).
