Wow (no pun intended), am I the only one to hear screeching tires and watch this thread take a 90 degree turn?

The point that you "I can build my own computer with a Tiger Direct catalog and 10 minutes on the toilet" people don't understand, is that I have NO desire to know how to build my own computer. I truly respect your knowledge; there's no way I could do what you do. That said; I doubt you could do what I do.

Any semi-intelligent person with a screwdriver and a power strip can build a computer. You buy a case, you buy a motherboard, you buy a video card, you buy a hard drive, you buy a keyboard and mouse. You screw it all in the case and plug everything in. You install a bootlegged copy of Windows. You spend three hours chasing down drivers. You spend the rest of your life telling everyone what a genius you are.

Yeah, I'm out. This is unacceptable even at 11pm. But for the record, the PC mouth-breather is the one calling everyone out.

That's really funny. Now I'm out.

I love the Mac vs PC argument going on here.. simply awesome

Apple is overpriced dog ****e.. and the Tech support argument in that makes me laugh even harder.

If your too dumb to fix your own computers then you shouldn't have one.. jmho

Now if your argument is you just love the Mac OS because of certain things it does slightly better then windows.. then more power to you, I support your decision and right as a capitalist to go pay twice the money to get what you want.

But please don't try to say they are built better then any EVERY other companies products because that is complete misinformation. I wouldn't try to compare a MAC to an E-machine like someone did earlier. But there are plenty of other companies that can compete easily on quality with much better prices.. Lenovo/Toshiba for pre-built stuff. Stealth Machines.. Puget Systems.. Falcon North West for custom built. Those are 5 companies off the top of my head that can easily compete in quality.

Sorry to be a part of the thread High jack here.. but I just had to chime in on this

P.S. and if someone tries to bring up that virus argument like apple tries to play with in their TV ads. I think I will puke, because if you honestly believe that non-sense.. Give me your IP address and I will show you a thing or two... Just sayin

I love how the guy who thinks that Apple makes overpriced crap recommends a few companies that make computers that are a thousand dollars more than Macs instead. Beautiful.

All you're doing is proving my initial point -- that quality costs money, whether it's Lenovo, Apple, or one of the high-end masturbatory gaming rigs. I'm largely an agnostic in the OS wars; I use all of them. I just won't buy cheap crap. Apple doesn't make cheap crap any more than Falcon does.

As far as tech support being useless for anybody with a brain -- I have a five-year old Mac laptop that had a video problem last year which I couldn't figure out. Eventually I gave up and took it to the Apple store to see if they had any ideas. A guy there worked with me -- for free, in person, on a four-year old laptop -- and eventually figured out that there was a known flaw in the Nvidia GPU. Then they replaced the offending board in my four-year old laptop for free. What kind of Windows box comes with support like that?

Toshiba makes a good laptop. Apple charges 5 times more for the same crappy Western Digital terabyte I got in my HP.

The computers from those companies that are more expensive then Mac are also more powerful. If you compare Power vs price.. Sorry but apple comes out near the bottom of the pile in that fight.

Don't blame you for not buying cheap crap... I wont either.. but your comment below proves that even apples have issues.. as any computer does. There is no data out there supporting any argument that apple has less issues or problems then any other comparable company.

I commend them for standing behind their products.. no matter how old. But they are not nearly the inventors of this kind of customer service or the only company out there that will do this. just to answer your question at the end..Alienware comes with this type of lifetime tech support. as well as many of those "masturbatory" gaming rig companies.

And as to my initial point about tech support.. a little research and knowing what hardware you had in your machine. Would have found you anything that was a Known issue... Just sayin

But I digress.. maybe ****e was a strong word to use earlier as apple is a good customer service based company. But I promise you that when comparing Power vs price.. I can build/buy a PC with the same if not more power then you can get from a Mac for less money.

I will end by saying that I am very Biased in this argument because I am an avid gamer and Mac just does not cut it in the gaming world. BUT experiences someone has with a company can easily make up for any price argument etc.. I will easily pay more money for the same product because of prior experiences with said company.

And since apple has treated you so well in the past I can easily respect your loyalty to them as a company and willingness to shell out a little more money for said products

Marketing and brand development.

Ya I couldn't do that.. requires more creativity then I possess.

Technical stuff and that type of work are two very different animals and skill sets. I have never encountered a problem with a computer that I could not Identify-Research and then fix. But I would not want to attempt anything in that field.. I would end up bankrupting some poor company :hi:

I was a hardcore PC gamer at one point in my life; believe me, I understand.

But that's the thing -- serious PC gamers have computing needs that maybe 1 percent of the computer market shares. Apple isn't interested in that sliver of the market at all. Their machines are unusable crap for you, but not for the other 99 percent of computer buyers. Most people don't care whether your can run OEM reference drivers for your video card.

I buy Macs now because Apple makes fantastic hardware, with an OS that's just an elegant skin sitting on top of a full BSD Unix system, and I can easily boot into a full Windows installation if I need to to play games. They last for years and hold their resell value very well. I think they're a tremendous value. If I were still sweating video drivers so I could wring out every last frame rate benchmark on of the latest games, I'd think they were useless. It all depends on what you're hiring your computer to do.

(And if all you want is a cheap disposable laptop to check email and browse Facebook and you're willing to throw it away in two years, then the E-machine guy is right too. Anything else is overkill and a stupid waste.)

Never purchased a Mac huh? I just shelled out over 2k. I should charge Apple with a felony.

Lol no I haven't, and shouldn't felony charges go off the present value of the item, not the purchase price? So doesn't this mean that it's value is still 1000+ despite being used? If so that's hardcore.

One can buy a cheap Hyundai over a BMW. One hopes to last until it is paid off while other drives like new for years.
As for owning a computer that can do EVERYTHING AND MORE of what another computer can do...you just made the case for owning a Mac. :)
You all need to take this to the pub
