Mac vs PC (split)

That's cool. I didnt know you could stream from iphone to tv through a cord. I used to use an mini port to HDMI cord to do it through my MacBook, but wireless would be much easier

The adapter is like $40 or $50. Has a port for hdmi & a port to charge device while it streams. Some apps like Netflix seem to be integrated for it but whatever is on the screen of your phone will be on your tv. Can look at pics, videos, texts, whatever.

Nice, what is the name of it? I'd like to order one

AppleTV does the same thing wirelessly. I cut cable off a year ago but my mom set me up with a charter email I use to log into ESPN and HBOGO apps on my iphone or iPad. One tap on the airplay icon and bam... It's on the TV in HD.

The HBOGO app even streams in the background so you can still do other things on your device.

The upcoming upgrade for OSX will not only mirror but allow the ATV to act as a 2nd (or 3rd) monitor.

For $100 its a must have for people in the Apple Eco system.

If your vested in a lot of other things that do everything it does other than AirPlay then it's not really worth it unless you just want a cool toy. I can definitely see the cool factor though. I sometimes link my iphone with my ps3 to play around on YouTube which is essentially the same as AirPlay. Also the ps3 has Netflix, Hulu, HBO-go etc for streaming content. Another thing is I can carry the cable with me anywhere & with unlimited data I can stream without being dependent of wifi too.

Suite yourself. I used my Xbox and and blue-ray player for Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc before. I found the interface for the ATV a a lot better. Plus my Xbox is one of the earlier models and it runs very loud. It was nice to eliminate that white noise in the background.

I'm just saying if you have a lot of different Apple devices its well worth the $100. If you are not then there are definitely some better options for streaming.

AppleTV update added WatchESPN and HBOGO as well as a few other new streaming channels IVe never heard of.

Yes, I am aware that both are available on XBOX but not everyone is a gamer or wants to buy a $300 XBOX just to stream.

Started using Zorin OS 7, and I'm impressed. Can run the Windows programs I need to in it, and it's faster than Windows 7.

Seems interesting. I might try the Lite version on an old laptop just to play with it.

I installed Rygel, and now can stream video from Zorin to my Sony Blu-ray player. I've got a Virtual Box of XP Pro, just for things that I find impossible to do with Zorin. So far, the only thing that I have found I needed it for was Sardu, to create a multiboot USB drive. Outside of that, I'm loving Zorin. It's on an SSD as well, so its lightning fast.

I put the Lite version on an old Toshiba Satelite M45-s331. It has a Centrino1.6 Ghz processor, 512 MB of RAM and was running XP. It was ridiculously slow (I have a 2nd Gen iPod touch that loaded full web pages faster). I wiped the HD with Boot and Nuke then installed Zorin Lite. It's amazing how much faster it is now. I may put it on my other Toshiba laptop too (but partition the drive to keep Win 7).

My only complaint is that the clock is in military time and the calendar is in Spanish and I can't figure out how to change it.

Love my Mac.

I have had cheap computers, still have some in my home... but they are not remotely equal to my MacBook.

Thanks!

OSX Mavericks was just released today. Free in the app store. I'm currently downloading. Says its got an hour to go.

Also new iPad refresh. I currently have an iPad 2 and the new iPadAir is the first update I've really considered.

a friend is going to pre-order an iPad Mini2 with the Retina display, wi-fi only, and 64gb storage

six-hundred damn dollars

I was seriously considering the Mini with it's improved specs. However, there's no way in hell that I'm paying $400 for a mini tablet without cellular data (the Nexus line of tablets are pretty much half the price). I'm going to go with the full-sized Nokia Windows tablet when it comes out.

I'm actually both. I have a Mac and a Dell laptop.

But I'm a software developer who works across multiple platforms and such, so I kind of have to be. Right now I'm on a Mac running VMWare running a copy of Windows 8.

I like both; if I had to choose, I'd choose Mac simply because I like the laptop better.

The most noticeable thing about a Mavericks is how much it looks like iOS 7 now. Which makes sense because the previous versions mirrored each other as well.

I played around with the dual screen via AppleTV feature. That will come in handy for those times I'm wanting to stream some media (football) over on the TV while still working on something on the main screen.

It's also nice to have a collaboration feature for documents in iCloud now too. Not ground breaking tech or anything but it's nice to have it integrated now. While Microsoft Word and Excell are still the preferable programs for more complex projects, I like the iWork program for their ease of use. Pages is great for making simple flyers or short reports with graphics. Numbers is a little less daunting than Excel for simple charts and such. However, Keynote blows PowerPoint out of the water. They don't even compare.

I movie has been redesigned. Haven't played with it a whole lot. I know they added some new themes which is nice. We usually make a yearly video for our kids on their birthdays so having some new themes will hopefully break up the monotony.
