The most impressive thing in all this is the price of the laptop. What kind of used laptop has a value of 1000+? I was shocked when I heard this was a felony theft.

Mac's are not all that . You can pay over a thousand for what a 600. dollar E-machine will do .But then you could not be a mac fan. Lets See? Hewlet packerd to dollar is just about twice the real ability . Lol But the steve jobs boys still say OOOH we dont get a virus. Well except the LARGEST one that has ever been discovered . Apple fans rank right up there with PS3 fans .

They're going to come out with updated Macbook Pros any time now. Take it back and wait.

(Unless you got the 17 inch. No telling what they'll do with that.)

I update every other year for work, write-offs and such. I'm not too worried about it. I'd go insane if I tried to keep up with what Apple does; gave up on that game years ago.

A $600 laptop is a plasticky piece of crap. An Apple laptop is a sturdy, well-built solid piece of aluminum. That comes with free tech support forever at a store where you can just walk in and ask them to help you.

The only company making laptops of the same consistently high quality is Apple is Lenovo, and they are priced accordingly. As with everything in life, you get what you pay for.

I don't worry overmuch about it, but I do try to know when a new release is (supposedly) imminent. Heavy rumor is that they are going to redo the 15 inch Macbook Pro with the super-slim Air form factor. Possibly at the expense of the ethernet port though.

While I have no clue what you just said, it's clear you're bitter about something. I have work that demands a superior computer, therefore I purchase a superior computer. It pays for itself and lasts an eternity. Next argument?

I used to build my own machines; I used to run Debian Linux at home as my primary desktop OS. I spent almost 10 years in corporate IT. I started buying Macs because Dell and HP started making absolute crap. I'd get 30 new laptops in to configure; I'd inevitably have to send five of them back. I'd call HP for warranty service and get some guy in India who called himself "Kevin" and who didn't know anything.

Lenovo makes good laptops now. Apple makes good laptops. That's basically it. I went with a Mac because it's just a shell over Unix, and all you have to do is open up a terminal window and there you are in a standard Unix shell. I've been completely happy with it. But there's no question that to get a laptop of comparable quality, you are going to pay close to the same amount of money. The only difference is that Apple doesn't make crappy laptops down in the disposable ~$500 end of the market like almost everybody else does.

Tiger direct has a MUCH larger Choice is all I am saying velo . I cannot help it if you cannot do it .

The point that you "I can build my own computer with a Tiger Direct catalog and 10 minutes on the toilet" people don't understand, is that I have NO desire to know how to build my own computer. I truly respect your knowledge; there's no way I could do what you do. That said; I doubt you could do what I do.
