Knowles Expected to be DC

The lineman would changes sides depending were they were at on the field. So every lineman had to know both positions left and right not to mention if they were supposed to learn another position like a left tackle needing to know to play right tackle plus also needing to know how to play left guard and right as a backup. It was overly complicated for no reason.
Right.I saw somebody else this year using that philosophy.Ol Dave went on to become a decent head coach.

He will be a major attribute to Heup's offense. Now that he's on the same team, he can explain how he stonewalled Heup's offense, in the playoff game last year. + help Halze/Heup understand what the other defenses are trying to do, to stop our offense. Hope we got some cerebral dudes on that defense next year. I'm sure Heup and Knowles will dial it down till these guys catch on.

Banks base defense was a 4-3
No it wasn’t:

Tim Banks
runs a versatile, pressure-oriented defense, primarily using a 4-2-5 base scheme(four linemen, two linebackers, five defensive backs) with a hybrid "STAR" safety/linebacker, designed to counter spread offenses by creating pressure from the front and mixing up coverages like Cover 3, 2, and man-to-man, making it hard for offenses to predict. While sometimes mixing in 3-3-5 looks, his system relies heavily on a strong defensive line to generate stops and allow linebackers and secondary to make plays.
Key Characteristics of Tim Banks' Scheme:
  • Base Formation: Primarily a 4-2-5, adaptable for modern offenses.
  • Pressure Focus: Emphasizes getting pressure from the defensive line, often with stunts and blitzes, rather than just straight rushing.
  • Hybrid Roles: Uses a "STAR" position (Safety/Linebacker) to add flexibility in coverage and run support.
  • Coverage Versatility: Mixes zone and man coverages (Cover 2, 3, 6, quarters) to keep offenses guessing.
  • Communication & Tempo: Focuses on quick reads and matching offensive tempo.
  • Adaptability: Can shift to 3-3-5 looks with hybrid DE/LB roles and uses zone blitzes.
How it Works:
  • The front four (or sometimes five) must create disruption to allow linebackers to cover the middle and tight ends, while the five defensive backs (including the STAR) handle receivers and slot players.
  • The system thrives when the defensive line can consistently generate pressure, making the defense more effective overall.
In Summary: Banks runs a modern, aggressive, and unpredictable defense that leverages a strong front and versatile secondary to confuse offenses, with the 4-2-5 as its foundational look.
