Knowles Expected to be DC

We beat two of those with a kicker who doesn’t shrink under pressure! We’d be in the CFP right now. Never forget.
Doubtful. Ga obviously. But Heup called a shat game and iced his own kicker. OK was given away by JA and a bad block that gave a fumble six and turned the game. Vandy, well that was the most god awful garbage I’ve seen in years.

Yeah I heard that Day was meddling too much. He prefers to run his program as he sees fit. I don’t see Heupel as the type to get in the way.
Unfortunately, the real story is much different He was forced to make changes at Ohio State when it wasn't working. Dude is old school and wants to do everything his way. Ohio State did not try to keep him and neither did Matt Campbell. Same thing happened at Oklahoma St. The young guns like Walters and some others would have been a much better choice. I hope it works out.

I'm really not sure they do. I've seen too many defenders trying to throw a shoulder at the ball carrier and knock him over. It looks good if it works but it's not good tacking in nearly all cases. Too many defenders flying straight head on at the RB or receiver when they should break down, give up a few yards and make the stop. Too much flying at the QB on sack attempts and not containing him. Bad angles. And that's for starters.

Edit: keep your eyes on the belt buckle.

Your edit part is exactly what we were taught playing junior and HS ball. Keep your eyes on the ball carrier/QBs waist or belt buckle...it never lies. If its going right, so is he. If its moving to the left, so is he. Keep your head up, butt down, eyes on the belt buckle...drive with your legs through the ball carrier and wrap up with your arms. Preferably by grabbing a leg with each hand. Thats a proper "form tackle" and we did very little of that this year...other than DLine players and Arion Carter. Telander is a thumper in the run game and good on short yardage etc...he struggled badly in space and got torched on passing plays. Next year we will see markedly improved LB play even if/when Arion goes pro. Spillman, Perlotte, White and Rouse are all great athletes. We were terrible tackling this year and as a guy who only ever played defense it was really hard to watch at times.

I don't believe a word of that.

Reading on his scheme a little bit. Adoption may not be as long as it has for other teams. Knowles runs something similar to what we run already. Difference in use of LB (Leo to jack, maybe?). Shouldn't be that hard of a transition.
🤞

Agree 100%. Much of the same scheme and personnel wise. 2 things I like a lot about Knowles defense from what I have learned so far:

1. He uses a lot of misdirection to try and fool QBs and coaches pre-snap. Shows 1 look then does something different. Shows Man defense but plays Zone. Shows Zone and plays Man etc. Banks never did this and it sucked. UGA and OK defenses both do it...to great effect.

2. While he plays Nickel defense with 5DBs, 3 of those guys are Safeties that can stop the run and blitz effectively. He can send pressure from any of the 3 on either side or up the middle...on any snap. Very unpredictable and tough vs the run. Banks and others play Nickel with 3 Corners and only 2 Safeties. (Boo, McMurray being Nickel Corners). Smaller guys not nearly as good vs the run. I mentioned it in a previous post...but our freshman Wyatt is gonna be a monster in this defense IMO. Its almost like it was designed for him. Very excited.

Sorry doc but what’s up is he is one of the best in college football

Like Heupel's offense empowers the QB his empowers the Safety position. Learning curve won't be an issue. We will without a doubt see a vast improvement going into next year.

Joel. Wyatt. The freshman Combay coming in is stout too. We will grab a couple Safeties from the portal IMO...but Wyatt should be smiling from ear to ear. He is gonna be a star in this defense. Perlotte, Spillman, White, and Rouse are gonna love it too. Assuming Carter goes pro this year instead of waiting.

One concern i've heard is that his defense is complicated and requires a learning curve. Some concerns about how well the players can perform in 1 year.

Maybe the thought is a "push" for next year and set up 27-30 for a run with Faze as QB?

Yeah I think next year is just practice for the young guys honestly.

I am very impressed CJH fired banks and went after a very high quality DC.

Says he wants to win here.

After conducting deductive reasoning, this led me to believe this was the best known-available hire. So, this is big in that regard.

I'm still curious as to what happened at Penn St.
I'm not excited about the 4-2-5 system and was hoping we would move on from that.
Banks base defense was a 4-3

Can only assume that ESPN just HATED to print this story. They loathe The Vols. Bet the reporter Adam Rittenberg has filed to enter the journalist portal.
