How can you judge a young QB that had horrible coaching, no protection, in an atrocious offense, on a fractured and disinterested football team, under an unexperienced offensive coordinator who proved incapable? Where can you find any absolutes about this kid?
Yah. That's how we roll at Tennessee. Wait. What? Pruitt did not get the memo?
LOL, Erik Ainge also was one of Butch's biggest defenders. Said he was a great coach on numerous occasions and never should have been fired. Then in true Erik Ainge fashion he turned on Butch, when public opinion roasted him for his defense of Jones. I'm just saying, using Ainge to try and validate a point, leaves a lot to be desired.Yeah, I believe Pruitt got the memo. The one that says you got a young, talented Qb who can make all the throws who badly needs some legit, D1, SEC QB coaching and he can be a really good QB at UT. However, you badly need some more talent and bodies in the QB room, and an experienced former starter Grad QB would be great as insurance and competition in that QB room.
And btw, Erik Ainge agrees. When asked about Chryst this morning he said the biggest thing Chryst does is compete with McBride for the backup. That the competition will be a good thing for JG as well, but that hes essentially providing depth and insurance at the QB position and until further notice really isnt a threat to compete for the starting job.
Memo indeed.
He was brought in to start.. and he will
If anyone watches, chances are that every SEC team will have to use at least 2 QBs every season. QBs who go all 12 games in this league are a rarity. It happens but more often injuries occur
54% passer this year with 123 passer rating.
JG: 62% with a 128 passer rating.
This is an upgrade how?
You just defined "suck QB".
If a QB is "a backup" and "serviceable" then guess what? He sucks.
Good grief. Pretty much every quarterback whos ever played college football was at one time a backup and, prior to getting experience and growing into the position were serviceable. In 1994, the guy who is now considered to be the greatest QB in Tennessee and perhaps SEC history, was both at first a backup and serviceable.
As far as Chryst is concerned, in limited time/starts at Stanford, he threw for 19 touchdowns vs 6 interceptions.....in what world does that suck?
This seems like the Saban game manager type of QB that he used at the beginning of his run at Alabama. He could be a safe and stable choice at QB if no one can break away as a winner. Hopefully we never have to find out and somebody will emerge as a natural fit for the offense.
