Jarrett Guarantano

What would Al Wilson, a real leader, have done last night when the Vols score 14 unanswered, block a FG, win in double OT, and the backup QB sits motionless and emotionless on the sideline? Would have taken about 1 drive of that crap before Al was nose to nose with the kid telling him to get right, or get left. Do freshmen at UT have to live in the dorms for the entire first year? I would imagine that is standard. How could you live, work, play, eat etc with your brothers 24.7....and not be celebrating their TDs and forced turnovers? Just cant wrap my head around it. Hes a Vol though, and still a kid obviously. He will probably figure ot out.

Just my guess, pure speculation, but it's possible he's not that much VOL and more about JG. IF he is then he wouldn't be the first, I think more and more of these players are less about their school and teammates and more about "me, me, me"

Because it is a COMPLETELY different scenario?

One was a guy that was not competing to start, sitting behind an upperclassman who was the returning starter and better player. This is a first time starter that was in a competition and struggled in the game.

This isn't pre school. You don't just wait your turn and earn it by virtue of being here longer. If QD establishes himself and performs well he should start every game. He hasn't so far.

QD engineered the comeback and the win. Some of you are so blinded in your desire for someone else to start that you must have missed that fact.

Or maybe the actual coaches know a little more about who should be playing than a bunch of keyboard coaches. He obviously made the right call since Dormady pulled it together in the second half.

The receivers had 5 drops in the 1st half. That's not Dormady's fault.

Where is the dang "like" button???????

And Jennings was out after he had 2 drops.

Callaway bailed out QD??? If a Bama QB or a OSU QB throws that pass everyone is saying "he put the ball out there and let his receiver go make a play."

It's perception. No matter what, who is JG hurting by pouting? Himself obviously, but more importantly the team!!

If we are being honest was it really the offense last night? School record in yards allowed, a first year starter on GT broke his school record for yards and attempts. 510 total rushing yards allowed and JG deserves a drive over QD?

He didn't "engineer" the comeback. We got a turnover and a short field. Kelly and Calloway "engineered" the comeback.

I don't desire anyone in particular to start. I always said it was close and QD would start the first game. If he would have looked good and not force passes, stare down wrs, and throw high balls that will get a wrs back broken I wouldn't have a problem with him playing every snap until graduation.

He looked bad most of the game and I think JG should have gotten a shot. I haven't said he should start or anything. I think we need to see if he plays better under pressure than Qd who looked pretty shaky and inaccurate while making poor reads and locking in on one guy.

I didn't question who started. I gave him a chance since he earned the start. Then he looked shaky all game.

They will both get plenty of paying time Saturday. We'll have stats to use in making comparisons. They will both do great. Then we get to argue for who gets to start in the swamp.

Fans just need to stop pitting these two young men against each other and pitting the coach against one of them. Look at what happened to FSU and UGA and now Maryland. The #2 (or co-starter) needs to focus on the game and be ready to enter if needed. He needs to be on the same page as the other co-starter and the coaches.

IMO, it actually benefits JG, if Dormady starts and his first entry into a game is a non-critical, don't have to save the day situation. I can only imagine the backlash if he enters in a critical moment and does something terrible, like fumble or throw an interception.

And folks need to stop looking for the next Josh Dobbs or Peyton Manning - let these young men be QD and JG and bring what they bring to the table.

If he is upset, it is because he's reading social media or having folks bend his ear rather than concentrating on doing whatever is needed for the team to be successful.

I worry about JG trying to do too much. I liked how QD didn't panic and methodically went down the field..

He was the QB when the come back happened. The QB is the player on the team that is responsible for communicating and executing the play.

Who threw the ball to Calloway? I suppose it just flopped up in the air or maybe he threw it to himself. Not denying that he made things happen but it takes TWO individuals to complete a pass play - the passer and the receiver.

Who handed the ball off to Kelly? I don't recall him taking the snap from center - but maybe I missed that.

And unless my memory is bad the drive where we tied the game started inside the GT 10. That is NOT a short field.

No one is going to change their minds on this QD/JG debate but here is what I saw last night.

QD, as expected with his first start, stared down his receivers, missed wide open receivers because he didn't go through his progressions, tried to force throws, and tried to rely too heavily on JJ. JJ going out of the game made QD have to go through more progressions. He still wasn't great at it, but he was better the second half. He still needs a lot of reps and live game experience before I will be comfortable with him as the QB.

JQ looked pissed and uninterested. I don't know or care what he was promised or thought might happen. Welcome to the real world. He should have been over with the QB coach listening to everything he had to say in case he went in. He should have been ready to go in at a moment's notice. I hope he uses this experience to mature a little bit. I know at some point in the future, and even possibly in the next two weeks, we are going to need him.

Some here aren't happy just winning, no turnovers, 1 penalty all game. Other than the defense, I think Tennessee played a pretty good game. Clearly dominated the special teams and offense got settled down in 2nd half but what did we really expect with a new qb, new Rb, new WRs?

So what was ESPNs point of putting the camera on JG after the long TD by Callaway ? Stir up crap like they always try to do ? Are they going to do this with Georgia, when Eason is healthy again ? I noticed they did it to UF and UM also, when the starters were replaced. Either way I agree that he better get over it and maybe even apologize to the team and move forward

For entertainment, something to talk about, or if your paranoid it was to embarrass the VOLS. What ever the reason, the optics were bad. JG needed to act like he was part of the team and not sit 10 feet away and give off the impression that he didn't care about anything since he wasn't playing.

Jarrett: We are glad you are here. We want you here. We believe you are the future. But you have to wait your turn just like everybody else. You are living in a fishbowl now and a lot of people are watching your every move.

We need to see a team player, a guy who plays his guts out for his brothers...a guy who always puts his team before himself....a guy who obviously wants to be wearing the uniform and wants to be here.

Just as important: we need to see a VFL who is ready when his number is called. It's a cliché but it's true: you are one snap away from being our starting QB.

Please be ready for your time when it comes.

My guess is at some point when the offense was struggling, he felt he deserved to go in. The coaches weren't ready to make the change... yet. But his reaction dictated he wasn't going in at all. A coach won't let someone act like that and lead the team.

But I'm hopeful seeing the replay and talking to the coaches will get his head on straight.

How do you not cheer or support teammates?

Sorry it was hearbreaking to watch him ignore his teammates. I was hoping to see him in the game. Until i saw him.

Sheriron transferred, decided what was best for him, but always supported teammates and is a VFL

I was desperate to see Guarantano play. I wanted to see him get in the game, but every time the camera found him it was selfish, me first, disinterest. He showed more off camera than he could have possibly shown me on the field.

Just my opinion and observation. I cant support another selfish me first type. He is a red shirt freshman. He will get his chance, here or somewhere else. He needs to wait for that, He obviously isnt ready and certainly seems to lack the maturity that Dormady displayed.

I guess his visit with good ole Johnny Football didn't bode well for him! People said they were just at the same camp together, but they looked really comfortable with one another in that pic. If he is a herd 2.0 type of guy, we should pull his scholly ASAP!

The difference in your scenarios is whoever started last nights game would have been making their 1st collegiate start. QD sat behind a guy who had more than 1 full season under his belt as a starter.

I think QD played really good in the 2nd half and led this team back from being 0-1 but he was throwing off balance in the 1st half and looked very rattled. There would have been nothing wrong with Butch giving JG a shot after 3 consecutive 3 and outs. Let QD's nerves calm some and maybe JG woulda provided a spark.

None of it really maters now a W is a W but it woulda been nice to see the kid play

This. We seen the difference in Dobbs and Worley.

Hes gonna get to eat this weekend. I would let the kid play early

I'm not really implying that you are saying this, but I wouldn't make one concession for an ego. I would not change the game plan one but to pacify one player. Haven't we already learned this lesson. I'm sure he has Hurd's number and he can go play somewhere else. He goes in the game Saturday when the game and the game plan dictates that he go in and not a moment before.

Everybody trying to prophesies what JG would or could have accomplished. Well I know as a fact what Dormady did. Drove us down 93 yards with little over 3 to play to tie the game. Then he led two drives that scored TDs in OT. Winner.
