Jarrett Guarantano

Everybody trying to prophesies what JG would or could have accomplished. Well I know as a fact what Dormady did. Drove us down 93 yards with little over 3 to play to tie the game. Then he led two drives that scored TDs in OT. Winner.

I'm missing that LIKE button.

Prior to the game I was okay with either to start and play but this apparent attitude thing tells me that one is not ready for prime time.

Hes gonna get to eat this weekend. I would let the kid play early

I would not let him on the plane in Atlanta, much less play any this season. If you cannot be part of the TEAM then you cannot play when it's your turn.

AKA Sherion Jones last season jumping up and down supporting the team.

JG is a baby. He was not engaged in the offensive play calling on the sideline nor was involved when Canales was working with QD during the game. Literally sitting there chewing on his finger nails and not communicating with QD or anyone.

BABY!!!:post-4-1090547912:

Dormady looks bad and Calloway bailed him out a couple of times. JG should have been in. He is young though. You have to cut him some slack.

Seriously? There were 5 drops by receivers in the first half, with 4 that were clearly should have been caught. I only remember a couple of bad passes and one bad decision throwing into coverage. I don't think that is bad for his first start.

I don't see any reason to look into it for more than it is. He's young and a competitor. He was wanting on the field and I can't knock him for being upset. Hell I would have myself at his age.

Remember he's a freshman and they tend to act like, well, freshmen It's really not a big deal.

Any good coach wouldn't lie to their players either. It goes both ways.
Sounds like Butch needs to smooth this over fast. I don't like seeing players with that demeanor on our sideline. Reminds me of Hurd. It is a team game. He'll get his chance but he keeps acting like that ......who cares?

(bolded above) You don't know this at all. What we know of camp was extremely filtered and guarded. All camp long we heard the two QBs were neck and neck, with QD having the edge simply because he had gametime experience. Jones went the with more senior player as he has always done with QB's. He stuck with Justin Worley, started God AWFUL Nathan Peterman ahead of Josh Dobbs, until finally Dobbs stepped in and did pretty well. This offense require a QB that can run the damn ball and QD is not the guy.

That's not all we heard and pretty obvious not what was occurring. This was a straight up competition that QD lead from post to post.

After watching the game again, his attitude is embarrassing. Completely disengaged from the game.

But according to some here... the response should be to reward him with playing time this week to placate him.

If I were Jones, I'd have a long talk with him and get some satisfactory answers or else he'd be behind McBride this week.

I was too into the game last night to give it much thought, but watching it again, it is disgusting.

You are 1 injury away from being the starter. Get involved, pay attention, be a leader. That was putrid.

So let me get this straight. Guarantano doesn't look happy after a touchdown thrown by dormady so we all assume that he is pulling a jalen bird and is contemplating leaving the program and we question his leadership potential and his willingness to act as a team player. Am I getting this correct?? Was there anything stated by him or anyone else actually confirming this or are we just being insane again?

Don't forget that Butch didn't like Dobbs at first. Then Dobbs started running circles on defenses. He should have given the more mobile QB a series or two.

there is actually Freshman on the team and we don't see them pouting around and I want to see JG get some reps. If I'm not mistaken he is actually a RSF so does that not make him a sophomore ?

Who wasn't pissed at the first half? I was ready to break things at half-time. And I'm twice JG's age, at least. The game was in serious doubt all the way to the end, so yeah, I can understand his not jumping around.

But while we're on the subject, I notice several posters who get their panties in a wad anytime you criticize Butch(i.e. question his coaching decisions) have no problem going after the players. I've always thought a coach is a coach, they get well compensated. The players are the team. So which group should be called "nega-Vols"? Those who criticize the coach, or those who go after the players?

JG pouted the ENTIRE game..Every sideline shot showed him sitting on the bench (usually on the far end) completely disinterested..Hell he looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there..I've seen enough sideline demeanor to last a lifetime and JG should be embarrassed by his pouting attitude..I get the "he's just mad" crowd but I was shocked to see JG pouting like a little baby in front of a national TV audience,,Just pitiful...

Butch didn't like Dobbs? The same Butch that worked like mad to flip him from Arizona State? This is kindergarten logic.

Give the young man time.

He's 19 years old. With the possible exception of Beecher, we were all idiots at that age: headstrong, stubborn, slow to accept realities different from what we expected.

Give him time to think it through, to adjust to the reality that he's no longer the super star of a team that revolves around him, that he's now one of many very talented players on the team.

I think he'll get over it, and bounce back. Jarrett Guarantano can be an awesome, team-focused Vol For Life. No need to condemn him off one bad night.

Go Vols!

I thought it was strange that the ESPN cameras and Herbstreit focused on him as much as they did.

I agree...I understand someone being disappointed, but his actions were extremely juvenile and telling...

He'd change this or find himself 3rd string if I were Jones/Canales...

He needs to realize this is the UT Vols not the JG Vols real fast. We should never put up with a Hurd attitude again. Having said that let's give him a chance.

People pissed because they think JG pouted like a baby on the sideline. How do they deal? They come to VN to post rants that make them sound very babyish themselves. Good times.

I agree on giving him a chance before the pitch forks come out. It does say a lot though that every Vol fan and even Herbstreit noticed his demeanor on the sideline.

I'll give him a pass as I'm hoping it has been made known that this is inexcusable for any QB who is competing for the starting job and that he hears the message loud and clear. Time to respond and hopefully we get to see him under center soon.

Honestly, I believe he was promised a series or two this week. Butch is also snake bitten with dealing with QB's..... I see both sides here.

I don't know if he was promised a series or two or not, but he was behaving that way in the first half. He seems like a spoiled guy who didn't get his way and was pouting. National commentators didn't miss it either. I heard Danny Kanell and Taj Boyd both say he should be told to leave if his attitude doesn't change or he will become a cancer in the locker room.
