Jarrett Guarantano

No there's plenty out there on Jalen Hurd to say that Jones sold him a bill of goods when it came to how he would be used and it didn't end up that way.

I think coaches tell little white lies to keep highly talented players from bolting all the time. It's not just Jones.

Like I said. I wouldn't be ripping this kid a new one especially knowing what that snake oil salesman Jones is capable of saying.

Exactly what do you know?

Honestly, I believe he was promised a series or two this week. Butch is also snake bitten with dealing with QB's..... I see both sides here.

way to be objective. People criticize players but never see it from their side. Coaches make promises to keep kids happy and when the promises turn to lies that causes ill feelings. I totally disagree but understand the bad body language when you were down and promised to play and it never manifested or happened.

(bolded above) You don't know this at all. What we know of camp was extremely filtered and guarded. All camp long we heard the two QBs were neck and neck, with QD having the edge simply because he had gametime experience. Jones went the with more senior player as he has always done with QB's. He stuck with Justin Worley, started God AWFUL Nathan Peterman ahead of Josh Dobbs, until finally Dobbs stepped in and did pretty well. This offense require a QB that can run the damn ball and QD is not the guy.

It's not like Dobbs was a super star right away. He was super raw.

For the long run we need Guarantano... dormady will not win games here because he can't run!!! Butchs offense is set up for a running qb!!! dormady couldn't hit the broad side of a barn last night if it wasn't for Calloway going up for the ball we would still be down 14!!!! He never hit anybody in stride!!! And threw behind receivers all night

I was expecting more accuracy than Dobbs with less running capability. Last night he was less accurate, never looked set when he threw the ball, and no running capability. I was hoping butch would modify the delayed handoff read option for this QB's qualities. Reminded me of when Worley tried to run this offense.

I hope people finally stop with the better passer than Dobbs bs. We see why he didn't challenge Dobbs to start. JG should be pissed.

Very ironic post. You are assuming JG is a better passer than QD without seeing JG take any live snaps.

I said he should be pissed. Not that he was a better passer. We won't know until he plays in a game. The same thing I said about Dormady when people were proclaiming him a great passer. He looked pretty bad in a real game against Power 5 talent.

Are you comparing Dormady's first game with Dobbs first game to draw your conclusions? Or, are you comparing Dormady's 1st game to Dobbs later games?

How do you know JG would have done any better? What if they benched Dormady and JG did no better? You would then have 2 QB's with shaken confidence. As it turned out, you now have a qb that has been battle tested and led his team to a VICTORY.

If he doesn't get on the field, we will never know if JG can or can't do the job in live action...

Bad coached game in more ways than one

JG should have been in. He is young though. You have to cut him some slack.

I agree. Everyone should give him a chance to snap out of that type of behavior after seeing for himself on clips how bad that looks on him.

If he's still not getting excited about scores after a few games, then be worried. It's WAAAAAAY too soon write him off as "another Hurd."

Heck, he's a competitor and wanted out there so bad that he could taste it. When he didn't get in for even one down he was, IMO, understandably hurt.

Give him a chance to learn from this.

Totally agree, but he had the ability to make plays with his legs when the play broke down or God forbid keep it on the zone read. Our zone read is a joke and RB waiting to get pummeled in the backfield if the QB never keeps it.

Even Jones has said they only occassionally run a true zone read.

I'm addressing people saying he is a better passer now than Dobbs was a a senior. Many, many people proclaimed how much better of a passer he is and the o would be perfect with his NFL arm.

I don't know if JG would have done better. He should have a gotten a chance though.

Yea Josh Rosen isn't a runner either and he's the best QB in college football.

I am confident with a little more live game experience that is not just mop up duty, Dormady will prove to be a much better passer than Dobbs. I think this would have been true last year as well had he been given the opportunity to get the experience.

Benching Dormady so JG could have gotten his chance would have been a risky proposition. If he had not done any better, what would that say to Dormady?

It looks like Dormady is THE quarterback for the Vols and JG is the backup for now. Everyone should play their role until something happens to disrupt the program.

I have a feeling JG will seize the opportunity when his chance comes. Be patient young man.

Wouldn't that be the point.

Fans just need to stop pitting these two young men against each other and pitting the coach against one of them. Look at what happened to FSU and UGA and now Maryland. The #2 (or co-starter) needs to focus on the game and be ready to enter if needed. He needs to be on the same page as the other co-starter and the coaches.

IMO, it actually benefits JG, if Dormady starts and his first entry into a game is a non-critical, don't have to save the day situation. I can only imagine the backlash if he enters in a critical moment and does something terrible, like fumble or throw an interception.

And folks need to stop looking for the next Josh Dobbs or Peyton Manning - let these young men be QD and JG and bring what they bring to the table.

If he is upset, it is because he's reading social media or having folks bend his ear rather than concentrating on doing whatever is needed for the team to be successful.

Dobbs was a lot better passer than we saw from Dormady last night, hopefully it gets better!
